Systematic studies on the GEM foil material are performed to measure the moisture diffusion rate and saturation level. These studies are important because the presence of this compound inside the detector’ s foil can possibly change its mechanical and electrical properties, and in such a way, the detector performance can be affected. To understand this phenomenon, a model is developed with COMSOL Multiphysics v. 4.3 [1], which described the adsorption and diffusion within the geometry of GEM foil, the concentration profiles and the time required to saturate the foil. The COMSOL model is verified by experimental observations on a GEM foil sample. This note will describe the model and its experimental verification results.

Presented paper deals with mechanical and electrical properties of several commercially available LTCC (Low Temperature Co-fired Technology) tapes, as well as their thermal characterization. Three commercially available dielectric tape materials provided by Heraeus (CT700, CT707 and CT800) are investigated. The samples for determination of significant material parameters are prepared using the standard LTCC fabrication process. Results of the material characterization (chemical analysis, surface roughness electrical and mechanical properties) are presented. In addition thermo-electrical and-mechanical characterization of investigated tapes analysis is performed.

Further Development

This study involved the development and characterization of novel porous, non-permeable, and conductive hydrogels. The hydrogels were fabricated with HEMA and crosslinked with PEGDA through a complete parametric study of the synthesis parameters which included water content and crosslinking content. The hydrogels were fabricated using UV photopolymerization and in situ polymerization of PPy, and characterization was conducted with respect to their physical, thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties. The physical properties were analyzed with respect to their swelling ratio and equilibrium water content. The thermal properties were analyzed based on the decomposition temperature and residue weight. The mechanical properties examined the elastic modulus of the hydrogels, and the electrical properties investigated the conductivity of the hydrogels. The relationships observed between the processing, structure, and resulting properties provide the basis for further development and application of these porous, non-permeable, and conductive hydrogels.

ABSTRACTSolutions of emeraldine base(EB) in DMPU have been successfully spun into fibers and characterized according to their morphology, mechanical and electrical properties. This study presents results for as-spun (undrawn) fibers. The viscoelastic behavior of EB spin solutions have been investigated with dynamic measurements of the complex moduli, first normal stress coefficient, and complex viscosity. A knowledge of the viscoelastic behavior of emeraldine base solutions is crucial for effective processing into fibers and films.
