Reciprocating sliding wear test of uncoated titanium alloy, Ti-6Al-4V is investigated using pin-on-flat contact arrangement of Ti-6Al-4V/Ti-6Al-4V pair under variable number of cycles at low number of cycles. The worn surfaces of the titanium alloy specimens were analyzed with the use of optical microscope (2D and 3D OM) and Vickers Hardness analysis was carried on. The pattern of the wear scar characteristics determined and the finding at the end of wear track had been focus through the presence at the end of wear track. It is suggesting an evidence of plastic deformation with the increasing in hardness value. The increase in hardness value at the end of wear track indicates increase in the plastic deformation with increasing number of cycles.

Titanium alloy Ti1023 is a typical difficult-to-cut material. Tool wear is easy to occur in machining Ti1023, which has a significant negative effect on surface integrity. Turning is one of the common methods to machine Ti1023 parts and machined surface integrity has a direct influence on the fatigue life of parts. To control surface integrity and improve anti-fatigue behavior of Ti1023 parts, it has an important significance to study the influence of tool wear on the surface integrity and fatigue life of Ti1023 in turning. Therefore, the effect of tool wear on the surface roughness, microhardness, residual stress, and plastic deformation layer of Ti1023 workpieces by turning and low-cycle fatigue tests were studied. Meanwhile, the influence mechanism of surface integrity on anti-fatigue behavior also was analyzed. The experimental results show that the change of surface roughness caused by worn tools has the most influence on anti-fatigue behavior when the tool wear VB is from 0.05 to 0.25 mm. On the other hand, the plastic deformation layer on the machined surface could properly improve the anti-fatigue behavior of specimens that were proved in the experiments. However, the higher surface roughness and significant surface defects on surface machined utilizing the worn tool with VB = 0.30 mm, which leads the anti-fatigue behavior of specimens to decrease sharply. Therefore, to ensure the anti-fatigue behavior of parts, the value of turning tool wear VB must be rigorously controlled under 0.30 mm during finishing machining of titanium alloy Ti1023.

The shear plastic deformation behavior of a material during equal channel angular (ECA) extrusion is governed primarily by the die geometry, the material properties, and the processing conditions. Using commercial DEFORMTM 2D rigid-plastic finite element code, this study investigates the plastic deformation behavior of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy during 1- and 2-turn ECA extrusion processing in dies containing right-angle turns. The simulations investigate the distributions of the billet mesh, effective stress and effective strain under various processing conditions. The respective influences of the channel curvatures in the inner and outer regions of the channel corner are systematically examined. The numerical results provide valuable insights into the shear plastic deformation behavior of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy during ECA extrusion.

Abstract. The article is devoted to the study of the behavior of a titanium alloy under conditions of high-speed penetration at a speed of approximately 2.0 km / s. It is shown that in the target during penetration, three penetration zones are observed that differ in the mechanisms of plastic deformation and fracture.

Plastic deformation can induce surface modification, such as shot peening (SP) on workpiece surface is the hot issue of recent scientific research. SP is the efficient way to improve mechanical behavior of specimens by inducing sever plastic deformation on their surface. Nevertheless, this surface treatment induced complex microstructural evolutions such as grain refinement, will enhance the corrosion resistance of specimens. In this work, the microstructure and properties of 34CrMo4 alloy of before and after SP for 20 min have been investigated. The evolution of microstructure and properties were analyzed from the surface and cross-section. The microstructure morphology at the different depth was determined by optical microscope. The results show grain size is increasing with the depth, and the microhardness and compressive residual stress decrease gradually. In terms of corrosion resistance, the 50 μm depth specimen has the best property than other depth, which the potential and corrosion current density are-0.484 V and-5.72 Acm-2, respectively. The maximum polarization resistance is 2055 Ωcm2by capacitive arc radius of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.

The shear plastic deformation behavior of a material during equal channel angular (ECA) extrusion is governed primarily by the die geometry, the material properties, and the process conditions. This paper employs the rigid-plastic finite element (FE) to investigate the plastic deformation behavior of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy during ECA extrusion processing. Under various ECA extrusion conditions, the FE analysis investigates the damage factor distribution, the effective stress-strain distribution, and the die load at the exit. The relative influences of the internal angle between the two die channels, the friction factors, the titanium alloy temperature and the strain rate of billet are systematically examined. In addition, the Taguchi method is employed to optimize the ECA process parameters. The simulation results confirm the effectiveness of this robust design methodology in optimizing the ECA processing of the current Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy.
