Introduction:Atomically resolved chemical analysis using techniques such as electron energy loss spectroscopy and annular dark field imaging relies on the ability to form a well-characterised sub-nm electron beam in a FEGTEM/STEM [1-2]. to understand EELS+EDX-signal formation upon propagation of a sub-nm beam through materials we first have to assess precisely the beam intensity distribution in vacuum and find conditions for the best obtainable resolution.Experimental Details:Modern TEM/STEM instruments combine features of both imaging and scanning technology. The beam forming capability approaches closely that for dedicated STEMs, while CCD recording devices allow us to measure the beam profile by direct imaging at magnifications up to 1.5 M. The recording of a “z-section” series through the 3D intensity distribution of the cross-over can therefore be realised by recording of a “condenser focal series”.

We designed High-Q micro-ring resonators based on SOI material. A new method of using a top SiO2 layer to cover the waveguide is applied and the tested Q factor is as high as 1.0135×104. Micro-ring resonator has been fabricated using Electron-Beam Lithography and Inductive Coupled Plasma. OptiFDTD was used to simulate the micro-ring resonator and we compared the transmission spectrum of this resonator with the resonator without SiO2 covering.

The variation with temperature of the magnetic leakage field of an unmagnetized crystal of hexagonal cobalt has been investigated by means of an electron beam. Both the prism and hexagonal faces were examined in the temperature range of 20 to 380 °C by a new method using a divergent electron beam. In addition, the prism face was studied from 20 to — 170 °C. It was found that the strength of the magnetic leakage field decreased steadily with increasing temperature. It became negligible at about 260 °C and this condition persisted up to 380 °C. It was also found that the basic domain spacings did not change during heating or cooling of the crystal.

The necessity of developing a new method for measuring the refractive index of a liquid in a turbulent mode of its flow in a pipeline is substantiated. A new method for measuring the refractive index of a medium n is presented. For its practical implementation, a new design of a flow-through refractometer has been developed, which makes it possible to measure n in both laminar and turbulent fluid flow. A new design of the optical part of the refractometer is considered. A new way of placing it on the vertical section of the pipeline for measuring n is proposed. All this makes it possible to make insignificant the influence on the measurement result of n flowing liquid of errors associated with multiple reflections of laser radiation from optical elements, with the formation of voids or vortex flows in the pipeline and with temperature fluctuations. In the design of a refractometer with a new method for measuring n, there are no restrictions on determining the value of n of a flowing liquid, in contrast to the used industrial flow-through refractometers, the principle of which is based on the phenomenon of total internal reflection of laser radiation at the interface of two media. The results of experimental studies of various media are presented.
