Abstract Power cable is used more and more in the power network, and its significance to the safety and stability of the power network is increasingly prominent. Especially in the urban power grid, the high voltage cable is related to the normal production and life of the city. Because of the particularity of the laying environment, it is very difficult to find and eliminate the fault points once the cable faults occur, which seriously affects the reliability of the power grid. Currently, 25% of cable faults are caused by elevated cable temperature, so it is important to set the cable temperature alarm threshold accurately. In this paper, a method of setting temperature alarm threshold using convolutional neural network is proposed. Experiments show that this method is 60% more accurate than other methods.

Background: In modern electrical power distribution systems, Power Quality has become an important concern due to the escalating use of automatic, microprocessor and microcontroller based end user applications. Methods: In this paper, power quality improvement has done using Photovoltaic based Distribution Static Compensator (PV-DSTATCOM). Complete simulation modelling and control of Photovoltaic based Distribution Static Compensator have been provided in the presented paper. In this configuration, DSTATCOM is fed by solar photovoltaic array and PV module is also helpful to maintain the DC link voltage. The switching of PV-STATCOM is controlled by Unit template based control theory. Results: The performance of PV-DSTATCOM has been evaluated for Unity Power Factor (UPF) and AC Voltage Control (ACVC) modes. Here, for studying the power quality issues three-phase distribution system is considered and results have been verified through simulation based on MATLAB software. Conclusion: Different power quality issues and their improvement are studied and presented here for harmonic reduction, DC voltage regulation and power factor correction.

Wayside acoustic defective bearing detector (ADBD) system is a potential technique in ensuring the safety of traveling vehicles. However, Doppler distortion and multiple moving sources aliasing in the acquired acoustic signals decrease the accuracy of defective bearing fault diagnosis. Currently, the method of constructing time-frequency (TF) masks for source separation was limited by an empirical threshold setting. To overcome this limitation, this study proposed a dynamic Doppler multisource separation model and constructed a time domain-separating matrix (TDSM) to realize multiple moving sources separation in the time domain. The TDSM was designed with two steps of (1) constructing separating curves and time domain remapping matrix (TDRM) and (2) remapping each element of separating curves to its corresponding time according to the TDRM. Both TDSM and TDRM were driven by geometrical and motion parameters, which would be estimated by Doppler feature matching pursuit (DFMP) algorithm. After gaining the source components from the observed signals, correlation operation was carried out to estimate source signals. Moreover, fault diagnosis could be carried out by envelope spectrum analysis. Compared with the method of constructing TF masks, the proposed strategy could avoid setting thresholds empirically. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed technique was validated by simulation and experimental cases. Results indicated the potential of this method for improving the performance of the ADBD system.
