A series of novel thiazolium halogenide ionic liquids were synthesized by using 4-methylthiazole or 4-methyl-5-thiazoleethanol and halohydrocarbons as materials. The compounds were characterized and analyzed by elemental analysis, 1H NMR and DSC.The solubilities of the ionic liquids in organic dissolvents were observed, meanwhile the conductivities and melting points were measured. The results show that these ionic liquids have high conductivity in water and have good solubility in traditional polar solvents, such as H2O, ethanol and acetonitrile. And the thiazolium halogenide are room temperature ionic liquids, due to their low melting points.

Arjun (Terminalia arjuna) is a source of many potent, biologically active compounds, planned all over Bangladesh. The chemical examinations of its fruits were taken up to isolate and identify active principles. For this purpose fresh fruits of Terminalia arjuna were extracted with rectified spirit. The extract was then triturated with petroleum ether (40-60°C), which was then subjected to column chromatographic separation followed by PTLC. Such separation led to the isolation of some new pure compounds, TA-1 to TA-5. The structures of compounds were characterized through spectroscopic studies (IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR). Treatment of the chelated palladium(II) complex, trans-[Pd(K2-Sac-CH2O)2].2H2O with one mole equivalent of the diammines (L-L), L-L = 2,2'-bipyridine (bipy),. ethylene diamine (en), 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), or N,N-dimethyl ethylene diammine (dmen) in EtOH solvent afforded mixed ligand complexes of the type [Pd(K1-Sac-CH2O)2(L-L)] in 82-93% yield. While treatment of trans-[Pd(K2-Sac-CH2O)2].2H2O with two mole equivalents of the monoamines (L), L=pyridine (py), 3-methylpyridine (3-mpy) or 3-aminopyridine (3-apy) in EtOH solvent gave trans-[Pd(K1-Sac-CH2O)2(L)2] complexes in 86-89% yield The prepared complexes were characterized by elemental CHN analysis, .conductivity measurements,. infrared and 1H nmr spectra.
