Autonomic and cardiac dysfunction is frequent in cirrhosis and includes increased sympathetic nervous activity, impaired heart rate variability (HRV), and baroreflex sensitivity (BRS). Quantified 123I-metaiodobenzylguanidine ( mIBG) scintigraphy reflects cardiac noradrenaline uptake, and in patients with cardiac failure it predicts outcome. In this study, we aimed to investigate cardiac sympathetic neuronal function in cirrhosis by mIBG scintigraphy in relation to cardiovascular function. Ten patients with alcoholic cirrhosis and 10 age- and sex-matched healthy controls participated in the study. Heart/mediastinum (H/M) ratios of mIBG uptake were calculated 15 and 230 min after intravenous injection of mIBG. Furthermore, washout rate (WOR) of mIBG was calculated. The patients underwent a liver vein catheterization with determination of splanchnic and systemic hemodynamics and measurement of HRV and BRS. mIBG-scintigraphy revealed significantly increased WOR in patients with cirrhosis compared with controls ( P < 0.005), whereas H/M uptakes were equal in the groups. Forty percent of the patients had reduced uptake of mIBG in the infero-lateral segment of the left ventricle. WOR correlated significantly with central circulation time, an estimate of central hypovolemia ( r = −0.64, P < 0.05) and frequency-corrected QTF interval ( r = 0.71, P = 0.01). Patients with cirrhosis had significantly decreased HRV and BRS correlating with indicators of abnormal cathecholamine uptake by mIBG although the catecholamine level was normal in the patients. In conclusion, in alcoholic cirrhosis, mIBG scintigraphy reveals autonomic dysfunction and impaired myocardial distribution of sympathetic nervous activity. It is associated to indicators of central hypovolemia, QT interval, and decreased HRV and BRS. Measurement of myocardial catecholamine uptake by mIBG may add important information on autonomic and cardiac dysfunction in cirrhosis.

The article discusses the results of research of interrelation between individually typological properties of the higher nervous activity, sensorimotor functions and the efficiency of throws into the basket of students-basketball players. Study of psychophysiological condition of athletes in basketball is very important because motor skills are directly related to psychophysiological characteristics. With the help of computer system “Diagnost-1” (authors N.V. Makarenko, V.S. Lizogub) data characterizing individually typological properties of the higher nervous activity and sensorimotor functions of basketball players were obtained. Data analysis proves that the most of surveyed athletes have strong and movable type of the higher nervous activity. The efficiency of throws into the basket and psychophysiological condition of athletes are interrelated tightly. It was proved by the results of correlation analysis of quantities of psychological, physiological and pedagogical tests, namely, indicators of individual typological properties of higher nervous activity and sensorimotor functions and nine tests on determination of the efficiency of throws by students-basketball players.

The article is devoted to the study of the definitions of "potential" and "potential difference" from the field of physics and technology, where they denote the supply of energy (electrical, thermal, mechanical, etc.) and the determination of the quantitative characteristics of this supply (for example, temperature, pressure) in different points in space, in particular in biological and social processes. The aim of the study is to generalize the concepts of "potential difference" and the interrelated concepts of "work", "flow", "resistance" for heat power engineering, bioenergy and state energy process. In the course of the study, a connection was established between the processes taking place in various fields of energy, bioenergy and social economy. The concepts that have passed from technical sciences to social ones (potential, entropy, turbulence, etc.) are considered. It was found that during some processes of thermal processing of food products, the heat flux can change its direction. The use of means that prevent such phenomena will lead to savings in energy and material resources. The study explains why the movement of blood in the capillaries should be laminar, and the turbulence of the air around the aircraft leads to discomfort for passengers. The process of determining the temperature difference as a key link in the transfer of thermal energy is analyzed. It is noted that temperature, as an intensive factor, can be checked using the value of the velocity coefficient of the liquid, the supports of the conductor, etc., with which it is associated. It was found that the concept of temperature as the rate of heating of a body concerns only gases - a vapor that is formed from water, although their temperatures are practically the same. With heat flow, the temperature difference depends on the thermal resistance of the immovable medium or on the thermal conductivity of the fluid flow. In the bioenergetics aspect, the uniqueness of plants as organisms in which irreversible processes with a decrease in entropy take place is emphasized, and the ability to keep a heavy ear on a thin stem occurs due to turgor. It is hypothesized that man has become "Homo sapiens" because the excess of bioenergy is converted into higher nervous activity. The application of the concept of "potential difference" for various tasks of socioeconomics - international interaction, information war, school and out-of-school education of young people, etc.

Estimation of working productivity of horses of sport breeds at an early age is of great selective and economic importance. The purpose of our research was to study the effect of the type of higher nervous activity on the formation of the level of working productivity of horses, basic measurements and live weight. Methodology and source material. The research was carried out on the stock of horses of Ukrainian riding breeding plant PJSC "Rize-Maximko" (N = 77). The assessment of growth and development was carried out according to the following parameters: height in the neck, breast circumference, trunk length, trunk circumference and live weight. Analysis of working productivity of horses was based on the results of factory tests in the farm. In order to achieve this goal, conventional zootechnical methods were used. The origin of horses was determined on the basis of pedigree cards. The determination of the type of higher nervous activity was carried out according to the simplified methodology of the All-Russia Research Institute of Horse Breeding [4]. All data is statistically processed by the methods of variation statistics. Results and discussion. For the analysis of exteriors, 77 horses of Ukrainian horse breed were selected, which was divided into 4 groups by the type of higher nervous activity. According to the results of the study of growth and development of horses. Adult livestock of horses with a weak type of higher nervous activity in height at the withers, oblique body length and chest circumference are likely to exceed the standard breed, respectively, at 2, 5 and 4 cm (P0,01). The lowest indicators of height at the withers were observed in adult horses of 3 other groups (164 cm)

It is now possible to determine proper motions of high-velocity objects in such a way as to obtain with some accuracy the velocity vector relevant to the Sun. If a potential field of the Galaxy is assumed, one can compute an actual orbit. A determination of the velocity of the globular clusterωCentauri has recently been completed at Greenwich, and it is found that the orbit is strongly retrograde in the Galaxy. Similar calculations may be made, though with less certainty, in the case of RR Lyrae variable stars.

Using the new reductions of the IUE light curves by Sonneborn et al. (1997) and an extensive set of HST images of SN 1987A we have repeated and improved Panagia et al. (1991) analysis to obtain a better determination of the distance to the supernova. In this way we have derived an absolute size of the ringRabs= (6.23 ± 0.08) x 1017cm and an angular sizeR″ = 808 ± 17 mas, which give a distance to the supernovad(SN1987A) = 51.4 ± 1.2 kpc and a distance modulusm–M(SN1987A) = 18.55 ± 0.05. Allowing for a displacement of SN 1987A position relative to the LMC center, the distance to the barycenter of the Large Magellanic Cloud is also estimated to bed(LMC) = 52.0±1.3 kpc, which corresponds to a distance modulus ofm–M(LMC) = 18.58±0.05.

In South Africa the modern outlook towards time may be said to have started in 1948. Both the two major observatories, The Royal Observatory in Cape Town and the Union Observatory (now known as the Republic Observatory) in Johannesburg had, of course, been involved in the astronomical determination of time almost from their inception, and the Johannesburg Observatory has been responsible for the official time of South Africa since 1908. However the pendulum clocks then in use could not be relied on to provide an accuracy better than about 1/10 second, which was of the same order as that of the astronomical observations. It is doubtful if much use was made of even this limited accuracy outside the two observatories, and although there may – occasionally have been a demand for more accurate time, it was certainly not voiced.
