Dr. Jeff Warren, MD, FRCPC, is an associate professor at the University of Ottawa within the Department of Surgery, Division of Urology. He has been a staff Urologist since 2009 and obtained his fellowship in multi-organ transplants, including kidneys and pancreases, from the University of Western Ontario. He received his MD from the University of Ottawa in 2002 and also completed his residency at the University of Ottawa in 2007. He is currently the head of surgical foundations for all surgical residency programs at the University of Ottawa. His clinical interests are in kidney transplantation surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and medical education. Dr. Tom Skinner, MD, FRCPC, is a transplant fellow at the University of Ottawa within the Department of Surgery, Division of Urology. He received his MD from Dalhousie University in 2012 and completed his Urology residency at Queen’s University in 2017. He has a BSc. from the University of British Columbia and a MSc. from McGill University. His clinical interests are in minimally invasive surgery, renal transplantation, surgical education, and healthcare economics. During this interview, Dr. Skinner and Dr. Warren discuss the current state of transplant surgery, the biggest challenges to transplanting patients, and the future of the specialty. They also discuss robotic surgery and the Spanish model for organ donation.

In May 2018 the Engineering Graphics Chair celebrates 90 years from the date of its foundation. The Chair was organized in 1928. The paper tells the Chair’s history, its teachers and heads, as well as a brief description of its scientific work. In 1900 were established the Moscow Higher Feminine Courses (MHFCs). A year after the October revolution, in late 1918, MHFCs were transformed into the 2nd Moscow state University. In 1930 the 2nd MSU was reorganized into three independent institutes: medical, chemical-technological and pedagogical ones. In May 1928 was organized the Chair of Technical Drawing, this moment is the counting of Engineering Graphics Chair existence. The first head of the Chair was S.G. Borisov. Than the Chair was supervised by Associate Professor A.A. Sintsov (from September 1932 till January 1942), Associate Professor M.Ya. Khanyutin (in 1942–1952), Associate Professor N.I. Noskov (in 1954–1962), Associate Professor F.T. Karpechenko (in 1962–1972), Senior Lecturer N.A. Sevruk (in 1972–1982), Professor, Doctor of Engineering E.K. Voloshin-Chelpan (from January 1982 to August 2007), Associate Professor V.I. Vyshnepolsky (from August 2007 till present). Currently, on the Chair are carrying out researches in the following directions: Higher School’s Pedagogy; Academic Competitions of Regional and All-Russia’s Level; Loci; Geometry of Cyclic Surfaces; Theory of Kinetic Geometry; Geometries; Geometric Transformations; Theory of Fractals; Famous Geometers’ Biographies.

Dr. John Di Guglielmo was born and raised in Montreal, where he completed his BSc and PhD degrees in Biochemistry at McGill University. During this time, he discovered and grew his passion for conducting basic cancer research. After his post doctorate fellowship at the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute (Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, ON), Dr. Di Guglielmo came to Western University as an Assistant Professor. Today, he is an Associate Professor in the Physiology and Pharmacology department at Western’s Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. Cheryl Yip, an Academic Affairs Coordinator for WURJHNS, had the opportunity to interview Dr. Di Guglielmo to learn more about his career in research.

Satellite navigation system was developed as a defense project, but in recent decades, has formed a global market of users of satellite navigation systems, and manufacturers of navigational equipment. The article is devoted to analysis of market prospects by the European satellite navigation system Galileo. Conducted SWOT-analysis, allowed to conclude that the project «Galileo» has advantages and problems. The main problem is the complexity of creating a satellite constellation, because Europe does not have its own reliable and cheap launch vehicles. The solution may be the inclusion in the draft of Ukraine, who has processed technology of rocketry. Gender comparisons of Israeli social work faculty using h-index scores

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyze the role of gender and faculty rank to determine their contribution to individual variance in research productivity for doctoral social work faculty in Israel. Design/methodology/approach H-index scores were used to assess research productivity. Quantitative comparisons of the h-index scores were performed for a sample (n=92) of social work faculty from Israeli universities with social work doctoral programs. Average h-index differences were assessed between genders at each tenure-track faculty rank and between faculty ranks for each gender. Findings Scholarly impact varied as a function of faculty rank. There was little indication of variance due to gender or the interaction of gender and rank. The average h-index of male faculty was higher than the mean h-index for women at the rank of lecturer and full professor. Women had a higher mean h-index than men at the rank of senior lecturer and associate professor. H-index means varied most at the full professor level. Originality/value Results were congruent with previous studies demonstrating that male faculty in the social sciences have higher overall h-index scores than women. However, this study was unique in its finding that this gap was reversed for Israeli social work faculty at the senior lecturer and associate professor. Further research is needed to examine the differences in publication patterns of social work faculty in different countries.
