We consider dynamics of sub-hyperbolic and semi-hyperbolic semigroups of rational functions on the Riemann sphere and will show some no wandering domain theorems. The Julia set of a rational semigroup in general may have non-empty interior points. We give a sufficient condition that the Julia set has no interior points. From some information about forward and backward dynamics of the semigroup, we consider when the area of the Julia set is equal to zero or an upper estimate of the Hausdorff dimension of the Julia set.

AbstractLet h be the Hausdorff dimension of the Julia set of a rational map with no nonperiodic recurrent critical points. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for h-dimensional Hausdorff measure and h-dimensional packing measure of the Julia set to be positive and finite. We also show that either the Julia set is the whole Riemann sphere or h < 2 and that if a rational map (not necessarily with no nonperiodic recurrent critical points!) has a rationally indifferent periodic point, then h > 1/2.

We study a family of rational maps of the Riemann sphere with the property that each map has two fixed points with multiplier -1; moreover, each map has no period 2 orbits. The family we analyze is Ra(z) = (z3 - z)/(-z2 + az + 1), where a varies over all nonzero complex numbers. We discuss many dynamical properties of Ra including bifurcations of critical orbit behavior as a varies, connectivity of the Julia set J(Ra), and we give estimates on the Hausdorff dimension of J(Ra).

AbstractLet T be a rational function of degree ≥ 2 on the Riemann sphere. Our results are based on the lemma that the diameter of a connected component of T−n(B(x, r)), centered at any point x in its Julia set J = J(T), does not exceed Lnrp for some constants L ≥ 1 and ρ > 0. Denote the transfer operator of a Hölder-continuous function φ on J satisfying P(T,φ) > supz∈Jφ(z). We study the behavior of {: n ≥ 1} for Hölder-continuous functions ψ and show that the sequence is (uniformly) normbounded in the space of Hölder-continuous functions for sufficiently small exponent. As a consequence we obtain that the density of the equilibrium measure μ for φ with respect to the -conformal measure is Höolder-continuous. We also prove that the rate of convergence of {ψ to this density in sup-norm is . From this we deduce the corresponding decay of the correlation integral and the central limit theorem for ψ.

AbstractWe consider the dynamics of expanding semigroups generated by finitely many rational maps on the Riemann sphere. We show that for an analytic family of such semigroups, the Bowen parameter function is real-analytic and plurisubharmonic. Combining this with a result obtained by the first author, we show that if each semigroup of such an analytic family of expanding semigroups satisfies the open set condition, then the Hausdorff dimension of the Julia set is a real-analytic and plurisubharmonic function of the parameter. Moreover, we provide an extensive collection of examples of analytic families of semigroups satisfying all of the above conditions and we analyze in detail the corresponding Bowen’s parameters and Hausdorff dimension function.

We consider the subset of the Julia set called the residual Julia set, which comes from an analogy of the residual limit set of a Kleinian group. We give a necessary and sufficient condition in order that the residual Julia set is empty in the case of hyperbolic rational functions.

We collect from several sources some of the most important results on the forward and backward limits of points under real and complex rational functions, and in particular real and complex Newton maps, in one variable and we provide numerical evidence that the dynamics of Newton maps [Formula: see text] associated to real polynomial maps [Formula: see text] with no complex roots has a complexity comparable with that of complex Newton maps in one variable. In particular such a map [Formula: see text] has no wandering domain, almost every point under [Formula: see text] is asymptotic to a fixed point and there is some non-empty open set of points whose [Formula: see text]-limit equals the set of non-regular points of the Julia set of [Formula: see text]. The first two points were proved by B. Barna in the real one-dimensional case.

In this paper, we study the approximations of a function |x|α, α > 0 by interpolation rational Lagrange functions on a segment [–1,1]. The zeros of the even Chebyshev – Markov rational functions and a point x = 0 are chosen as the interpolation nodes. An integral representation of an interpolation remainder and an upper bound for the considered uniform approximations are obtained. Based on them, a detailed study is made:a) the polynomial case. Here, the authors come to the famous asymptotic equality of M. N. Hanzburg;b) at a fixed number of geometrically different poles, the upper estimate is obtained for the corresponding uniform approximations, which improves the well-known result of K. N. Lungu;c) when approximating by general Lagrange rational interpolation functions, the estimate of uniform approximations is found and it is shown that at the ends of the segment [–1,1] it can be improved. The results can be applied in theoretical research and numerical methods.

Let ƒ b e a mapping defined on a compact subset K of the finite complex plane C and taking its values on the extended plane C ⋃ ﹛ ∞﹜. For x a metric on the extended plane, we consider the possibility of approximating ƒ x-uniformly on K by rational functions. Since all metrics on C ⋃ ﹛oo ﹜ are equivalent, we shall consider that x is the chordal metric on the Riemann sphere of diameter one resting on a finite plane at the origin.

AbstractWe consider algebraic independence properties of series such as We show that the functions fr(z) are algebraically independent over the rational functions Further, if αrs (r = 2, 3, 4, hellip; s = 1, 2, 3, hellip) are algebraic numbers with 0 < |αrs|, we obtain an explicit necessary and sufficient condition for the algebraic independence of the numbers fr(αrs) over the rationals.
