Art and art history resources on the Web abound. Yet the process of identifying scholarly art information online is typically inefficient, leading many researchers to abandon Internet sources for traditional printed reference works. Locating websites that focus specifically on art and art history timelines can be an even greater challenge: these resources simply have not been available on the Web in any large number or degree of comprehensiveness. In recent years, however, new Web-based art timelines have been published, most notably by art educators, museums and other non-profit organizations. This evaluative webliography of selected art and art history timelines not only highlights the variety of resources that are currently available, but also illustrates that the majority of these Web resources focus upon the art of the Western world.

About the only way a small non-profit art museum and its library can hope to create and disseminate information about both its art and bibliographic collections is through collaboration and co-operation. The Akron Art Museum, the University of Akron Libraries, and OhioLink (the state-wide library and multimedia consortium) joined forces to compile the necessary records, images and software to connect information in the museum library’s catalogue to image files, and other biographic and bibliographic databases. Selected portions of the newly created resources are refashioned and merged with web-based lesson plans for use within the museum itself, out in the greater metropolitan area, and wherever Internet-based web resources can reach.

In this period of constrained economic conditions, this study initiates an analysis of the critical success factors in the implementation of World Wide Web-based communities in the non-profit sector, focusing on communities of challenged citizens who have mental health conditions in the City of New York.  Non-profit organizations in New York depend ever more upon the technology of the Web to help disabled members in the city, as the disruption from the September 11 disaster continues to impact social services. Though investment in technology is limited in the non-profit sector, the preliminary analysis of this study imputes that implementation of community networks that service rehabilitating members of society is facilitated by distinct enabling success factors of cohesion, effectiveness, help, language, relationship and self-regulation in the innovation of the supporting Web sites.  The analysis contributes insight into the dynamics of communities on the Web that is applicable in an international context.  This study furnishes a new framework to research Web-based communities in the non-profit sector.

Financial statement is one of the essential thing in managing finance in an organization. Both profit oriented organizations and non profit oriented organizations requires relevant, reliable, comparable and understandable information in financial statements presented. Moreover, the non profit organizations, which the largest source of funding is donated from donors, the possibility of fraud becomes bigger. It is usually done by several parties, even by the management itself. Therefore, the diclosure of relevant, reliable, comparable, and understandable financial statements, are necessary done by the non profit organizations. The disclosure of financial statement needs a healthy organization management, good strategic management, finance report based on the accounting standards (PSAK 45) and good technology utilization. The technology utilization by web based financial statement are expected to be faster in presenting the non profit organization financial statement. With the stages of process that are undertaken, hopefully it will increase transparency of accountability for the donors.

In recent years, the usage pattern of the Web has been undergoing dramatic changes. The traditional definition of the Web, “a system of interlinked hyper-text documents”, can no longer describe the situation accurately today. Instead, users want to interact with Web resources and even want to create their own Web resources that can interact with others. This is what we call “Web 2.0”, a new Web that is both read-able and write-able. However, considering Web-based services around us: the calendar services, the traveling services, and the messaging services, etc., one can draw a conclusion that what Web users nowadays expect from the Web are not only contents and interactions but also services. To meet this expectation, a read/write/execute-able Web is demanded. In this paper, new technologies for building such a Web are proposed. A virtual browsing environment is employed to transform existing Web resources into executable services. Furthermore, an HTML-to-XML annotation/transformation technology is integrated into the virtual browsing environment to form the data model part. With these technologies, the Web will be transformed into “a system of interlinked services.”

Currently the Web is the largest available environment for the deployment of agents, and much work in agent research is driven by Web-based applications (Luke et al. (1997), Joachims et al. (1997), Bollacker et al. (1998), Doorenbos et al. (1997) are just some examples; see also the May 2000 special issue of the Artificial Intelligence Journal on intelligent internet systems, 118 (1–2)). However, such applications of agent technology are hampered by the fact that the Web is not geared towards agent use, but is rather designed for human use. Current Web resources are lacking in explicit, machine-accessible descriptions of their contents; they are only fully accessible to agents with a competent grasp of English (i.e. limited to human agents only).
