SN 1006 was the first (and for a very long time the only) event to be caught before peak light. A passage which, according to Stephenson, does not actually pertain to the SN, nevertheless makes clear that, even then, a hypothesis was more likely to be accepted if it made a prediction later verified, though the prediction was that something bad would happen to Emperor Sanjo In. The hypothesis was that the star was not new, but related to behavior of existing stars in Qichen Jianjun. According to the poster by P.J. Boner, Kepler made the opposite choice for ‘his’ SN, calling it a genuinely new star formed out of the ether, rather than mere change in appearance. Indeed the distinction between true novae and variable stars was not drawn correctly until Hevelius's 1662 study of Mira, after Tycho had shown that his event (and the comet of 1577) were more distant than our Moon, a point disputed by many of his contemporaries, but accepted by Galileo, who applied a very early statistical method to many different observations of SN 1572. Tycho's main advantages were better equipment and hard work, again not so different from present conditions.

Let us divide variable stars into two main groups: the first “classical” group, includes objects known for a long time, such as Cepheids, RR-Lyrae stars, Miras, cataclysmic variables, eclipsing binaries, etc. The second group includes micropulsating variables of δ Scuti and β Cephei types, magnetic variables, rotating variables of BY Draconis type, etc.Historically, the contribution of amateurs in investigating the first group was very significant, and it continues to increase. On the other hand, involvement in studying the second group of stars was practically equal to zero some years ago, but today one can see the beginnings of an expansion of amateur work on this second group of variables – among brighter objects, of course. One reason is the beginning of cooperation between amateurs and professional astronomers having powerful instruments.

AbstractThe fundamental problem of long-term photometric monitoring of variable stars and of multi-wavelength photometric campaigns is the problem of bringing the data to a common standard. Such homogenization can be achieved only when the measurements are made in photometric systems that are truly transformable. This fundamental problem is of a technical nature, and photometric observers, sometimes, are not aware of the problems. This frequently leads to over-interpretation of the data.

Abstract Building a strong brand needs hard work and a relatively long time. Therefore it will be much faster and less risky when acquiring a brand that is well known and has a loyal market compared to creating a brand or new brand that is not necessarily successful. Acquiring a brand that has been proven to have performance and income and good growth is safer than developing its own brand. But if a misstep, acquisition can actually harm the company, both for the company being acquired and the company that acquires itKeywords: Acquisitions, Brands, Companies AbstrakMembangun merek yang kokoh perlu usaha yang keras dan waktu yang relative panjang.

HR 2740 was a target for a photometric campaign carried out at La Silla (ESO) and Sutherland (SAAO) from 1997 January 14 to 1997 February 11 (Poretti et al., 1997). The campaign revealed that HR 2740 is one of the brightest γ Dor stars, a class of variable stars located near the cool border of the instability strip, and in which gravity pulsation modes are excited. Four frequencies were identified (f1=1.0434, f2=0.9951, f3=1.1088, f4=0.9019 c d−1), which together yield a satisfactory solution to the observed light curve. The frequency analysis was not simple, but thanks to the large coverage in longitude we could separate the effect of aliasing on the two terms f3=1.1088 c d−1 and f4=0.9019 c d−1, linked by the relationship f4 = 2 - f3. Moreover, only the long time baseline allowed us to resolve the two close terms f1=1.0434 c d−1 and f2=0.9951 c d−1. See Poretti et al. (1997) for a detailed discussion.

According to the highway subgrade engineering construction period serious delaying by rainy climate for a long time in the tropical rainy regions. The key process of the subgrade construction affected by climate is roadbed filling turning. Binding the law of rainy, Considered the continuous available period for filling turning as a random variable to analyze the correlation with its frequency, established the regression formula, the values of correlation coefficient is more than 0.95, shows that the continuous available period for filling turning presents good exponential relationship, A new statistical method of continuous available period for filling turning called selecting time construction concept was put forward. According the feasible probability of the continuous available period for filling turning, put forward a new grade division method for roadbed filling. Optimized the construction organization of the subgrade engineering by the statistical function of continuous available period for roadbed filling turning, and proved its reliability and achievability. Demonstration and reference were provided for the highway construction and local standardization in southern rainy regions.

Variable Star and Exoplanet Section of Czech Astronomical Society (VSES CAS) is a citizen astronomy organization with almost century tradition in basic and advanced research on variable stars in Czech Republic. Members are formed both amateur and professional astronomers all age groups, including youths and students. VSES CAS is primary focus on observing variable stars and exoplanet, education and training of astronomers. The society annually organizes workshops, meetings or conferences for astronomers and many popularisation activities intended for general public. Many amateur astronomers also meaningfully contribute to professional astronomy with unquenchable enthusiasm, precise photometry reduction or acquiring photometric data with hardware similar to professional surveys.

Some of the VSES projects have global impact. Database B.R.N.O. collects data of light curves of eclipsing binaries from observers. Since 2007, more then 19,000 minima timings from hundreds observers has saved to database. After revision, the contribution of times of minima are regularly published in Open European Journal of Variable Star. Project MEDUZA was focused on long-period variable stars. The database contains observations more then 1346 objects obtained both visual and CCD methods. The most important international project is Exoplanet Transit Database (ETD). The database administrators are periodically checking for new transits - both in literature and in on-line internet sources. The ETD also offers modern online fitting tool for publication of data of observers. Observers can plot their own observations in diagrams, finding out parameters HJDmid, depth, duration or global transit predictions. From 2008 to now, more then 8400 transits observed by observers from around the world are published in ETD.

The members of VSES CAS operate and develop the observing remote-controlled setup of Newton 150/750 telescope and cooled CCD camera situated in Valasske Mezirici Observatory. The telescope is used mostly for observing campaigns, cooperation with profesional astronomers or student research projects. The results obtained using this telescope was also published in several international projects. Recently, the telescope is mostly used for follow-up observations of TESS exoplanet candidates.

In VSES, we have now started developing a new generation of our web application. One of the goals is improved user experience and consolidation services, which were put together over a long time and using some now outdated technologies. New applications should reflect recent trends in modern astronomy and represent complete service for data processing, publishing observations, cloud storage, platform for campaigns and projects also social network between observers in around the world.

New pro-am international cooperation on projects of variable stars and exoplanet, and important results of VSES members will be also presented.

The three special projects sponsored by Commission 27: the Information Bulletin on Variable Stars (IVBS), the Archives of Unpublished Observations of Variable Stars, and the General Catalogue of Variable Stars (GCVS) continue to serve the astronomical community. Katalin Oláh, Laszlo Szabados, András Holl, Zsolt Kővári and their colleagues have made the Bulletin available in electronic form, including back issues. In addition, Andras Holl succeeded in setting up a WWW home page for our commission. Chris Sterken and the Editorial Board strived to maintain high scientific standard of the IVBS. The Archives, under Ed Schmidt, increased to over three hundred files. Nikolai N. Samus and his co-workers published the final volume of the 4th edition of the GCVS. The Catalogue is also available electronically. All these people should be highly prized for their hard work for the IAU and astronomers at large.
