ABSTRACTNew organic nonlinear optical crystal : dicyanovinyl anisole (DIVA) has been grown from vapor by low pressure sublimation and from saturated solution by solvent evaporation. Crystallographic structure and quadratic nonlinear optical properties were investigated. Molecular orientation in DIVA crystal with space group P21, is favorable for the highest possible value of bulk phase-matchable coefficient. Both type I and type II phase matched second harmonic generation (PMSHG) were observed from naturally grown faces of single crystals. Efficient PMSHG was achieved at a fundamental wavelength of 812 and 1064 nm. The efficient type I PMSHG coefficient was determined as deff = 4.9 × 10−8 esu = 40 × (d11 of α-quartz) at a wave.LH length of 1064 nm. Blue light generation was demonstrated by both PMSHG and sum-frequency mixing of the 812 nm laser with 1064 nm.

Multistage tests are a widely used and efficient type of test presentation that aims to provide accurate ability estimates while keeping the test relatively short. Multistage tests typically rely on the psychometric framework of item response theory. Violations of item response models and other assumptions underlying a multistage test, such as differential item functioning, can lead to inaccurate ability estimates and unfair measurements. There is a practical need for methods to detect problematic model violations to avoid these issues. This study compares and evaluates three methods for the detection of differential item functioning with regard to continuous person covariates in data from multistage tests: a linear logistic regression test and two adaptations of a recently proposed score-based DIF test. While all tests show a satisfactory Type I error rate, the score-based tests show greater power against three types of DIF effects.

Ensembles of sharp emission lines present in the macro-luminescence of type-II GaAs / AlAs double quantum well structures were studied. Micro-luminescence experiments allowed us to conclude that the sharp emission lines originate from lateral GaAlAs islands of a few μm in diameter, formed in the structure. They serve as efficient type-I recombination centers for indirect excitons and/or carriers diffusing in the GaAs / AlAs QW structure. Magneto-luminescence spectra from single islands resemble those observed for natural quantum dots formed in narrow GaAs quantum wells. The observed emission is assigned to the recombination of neutral excitons as well as excitonic molecules.
