We have measured the heat capacity of the fast ion conductor PbSnF4 at 10.3 < T < 352 K by adiabatic calorimetry. Our results show anomalous values in the Cp,m in the region 300 < T < 352 K. These are associated with the α–β crystallographic transition reported at 353 K. Because the upper temperature limit of our cryostat is around 354 K, it was impossible to follow the phase transition to completion. A more subtle anomaly in the Cp,m was detected between 130 and 160 K. Standard molar thermodynamic functions are presented at selected temperatures from 5 to 350 K.

The paper proposes a model for the process of free moisture crystallization in beef within the framework of the Debye concept with establishment of dependencies of model parameters on the initial moisture content. Model adequacy was validated by comparison of the calculation results with the results of the experiments on determination of values of heat capacity and phase transition enthalpy in beef with different initial moisture obtained by the differential scanning calorimetry method. It is shown that the end of free water phase transition in beef with initial moisture in a range of 37% to 80% occurs at a temperature of 243 К. Calculation dependencies of parameters of the model used for calculation of beef heat capacity are presented.

AbstractThe formation enthalpy, - 3752.3 ± 4.7 kJ·mol−1, of Hf-zirconolite, CaHfTi2O7, was obtained using high temperature oxide-melt solution calorimetry. Combined with heat capacity data obtained using low temperature adiabatic calorimetry we report the heat capacity (Cp) and the standard molar formation energetics (ΔH°f. elements, Δ S°T, and ΔG°f. elements)for Hf-zirconolite from T = 298.15 K to T = 1500 K. Comparison of Hf-zirconolite with Zr-zirconolite is made.

The effect of three anions, Cl-, Br- and I-, on the phase transitions of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) was measured. Main phase transition was modestly affected by these anions in the salt concentration range 0.2 M. For Cl- and Br- the temperature of main phase transition was lower (by about 0.5 °C), its half-width modestly larger and enthalpy practically unchanged, all three parameters were altered to a much larger degree. Main phase transition temperature was 1.5 °C lower and the peak half-width significantly smaller. These changes were not accompanied by any alteration in main phase transition enthalpy. Iodide shifted the pretransition temperature toward lower values and increased its half-width to such an extent that at concentrations above 100 mm it was practically undetectable. Besides cations, the presence of anions also has a distinct effect on lipid bilayer interface properties.
