In the title compound, [Pb(C8H4O4)(C24H16N2)] n , the benzene-1,4-dicarboxylate (1,4-BDC) dianions link the PbII atoms to form a chain structure. The PbII atom is coordinated by 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (L) and is also bonded to four 1,4-BDC O atoms, resulting in a very distorted cis-PbN2O4 octahedron. There are two 1,4-BDC half-anions in the asymmetric unit, both completed by inversion. Aromatic π–π stacking between L ligands in adjacent chains results in a two-dimensional supramolecular layer structure [minimum centroid–centroid separation 3.464 (5) Å].

Three coordination polymers based on quaternary-ammonium-modified isophthalic acid, namely, catena-poly[[[aqua-μ2-bromido-di-μ3-hydroxido-methanoldinitratotetracopper(II)]-bis{μ4-5-[2-(tripropylazaniumyl)ethoxy]benzene-1,3-dicarboxylato}] nitrate], {[Cu4Br(C19H28NO5)2(NO3)2(OH)2(CH4O)(H2O)]NO3} n , 1, poly[μ3-bromido-μ2-bromido-bromido-μ3-hydroxido-{μ4-5-[2-(tripropylazaniumyl)ethoxy]benzene-1,3-dicarboxylato}tricopper(II)], [Cu3Br3(C19H28NO5)(OH)] n , 2, and poly[bromido{μ3-5-[2-(tripropylazaniumyl)ethoxy]benzene-1,3-dicarboxylato}zinc(II)], [ZnBr(C19H28NO5)] n , 3, were obtained by solvothermal reactions. Coordination polymer (CP) 1 contains tetranuclear Cu4 units, in which the four Cu atoms are linked by two μ3-OH− groups into a Cu4(OH)2 cluster, which are in turn linked by 5-[2-(tripropylazaniumyl)ethoxy]benzene-1,3-dicarboxylate (cpa−) ligands into a chain structure. CP 2 also contains a tetranuclear Cu4(OH)2 cluster and these are linked with CuBr3 units into chains. The chains are then connected by cpa− ligands into a two-dimensional layered structure. CP 3 contains a two-dimensional layer structure built by binuclear Zn2 units and cpa− ligands. The Br− counter-anions of the quaternary ammonium groups all take part in the construction of the polymeric networks.

The reduction of 1,4-diphenyl-1,4-bis(diphenylphosphanyl)buta-1,3-diene (1) (1,4-diphenyl- NUPHOS) with potassium in THF yields bis(THF)potassium 2,5-diphenylphospholide (2) which crystallizes with a chain structure. The metathesis reaction of 2 with the iodides of calcium, strontium, and barium leads to the formation of [bis(THF)calcium bis(2,5-diphenylphospholide)] (3), [bis(THF)strontium bis(2,5-diphenylphospholide)] (4), and [bis(THF)barium bis(2,5-diphenylphospholide)] (5). The reaction of M{P(H)SiiPr3}2 with diphenylbutadiyne in THF also leads to the formation of the 2,5-diphenylphospholides of calcium (3), strontium (4), and barium (5). The molecular structures of 2 to 4 are discussed. The environment of the metal atoms is very similar in all these compounds: The metal atoms show an η5 coordination to the phospholide rings forming a bent sandwich complex. The open coordination site is occupied by two THF molecules

In the past few decades, enormous efforts have been made to synthesize covalent polymer nano/microstructured materials with specific morphologies, due to the relationship between their structures and functions. Up to now, the formation of most of these structures often requires either templates or preorganization in order to construct a specific structure before, and then the subsequent removal of previous templates to form a desired structure, on account of the lack of “self-error-correcting” properties of reversible interactions in polymers. The above processes are time-consuming and tedious. A template-free, self-assembled strategy as a “bottom-up” route to fabricate well-defined nano/microstructures remains a challenge. Herein, we introduce the recent progress in template-free, self-assembled nano/microstructures formed by covalent two-dimensional (2D) polymers, such as polymer capsules, polymer films, polymer tubes and polymer rings.

Language theoretic public key cryptosystems for strings and pictures are discussed. Two methods of constructing public key cryptosystems for the safe transmission or storage of chain code pictures are presented; the first one encrypts a chain code picture as a string and the second one as a two-dimensional array.

The hydrothermal reaction of Zn(II) nitrate with 5-(pyridin-2-ylmethylamino)isophthalic acid (H2L) yields the complex [Zn(L)(H2O)] 2H2O (1). When 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) as auxiliary ligand and Cd(II) nitrate were used in the alkaline reaction system, [Cd(L)(H2O)(bpy)] 3H2O (2) was obtained. Complexes 1 and 2 have been characterized by single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, IR, elemental and thermogravimetric analyses. Complex 1 shows a 2D fes network structure with uninodal 3-connected (4.82) topology, which is further linked by hydrogen bonding to give rise to a 3D supramolecular framework; complex 2 displays a chain structure. Interestingly, tetranuclear water clusters were generated in 1, which are interlinked to fabricate a water chain structure. The fluorescence properties of 1 and 2 were investigated
