Opal as a carrier, tetrabutyl titanate as a titanium source, TiO2 loaded on opal was prepared by sol-gel technique. The photocatalysts were characterized by XRD, TEM and UV-VIS absorption spectrum. Their photocatalytic activities were examined by the photocatalytic decolorization of methylene blue solution under UV light irradiation. The effects of calcination temperature, the amount of TiO2 loading and pH on photocatalytic activities were discussed. The results show that TiO2 supported on opal induced enhancement of photocatalytic decolorization rant and TiO2 doping is about 30 wt. % with 92.15% of decolorization rate at 700°C.

TiO2 nanotubes were synthesized using TiO2 powder as raw material from a hydrothermal method. It was observed that the sample prepared at 130°C and calcined at 450°C only anatase formed, but the sample calcined at 800°C, both anatase and rutile formed. The obtained TiO2 nanotubes prepared at a hydrothermal temperature of 130°C and calcined at 450°C have a greater surface area of 356.8m2/g. Moreover, the TiO2 nanotubes demonstrate the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue solution effectively by exposing the nanotubes in aqueous solution under visible light.

The aim of this study was to investigate photodegradation of Methylene Blue (MB) in water by using ZnO and TiO2 nanoparticles. Adsorption and photocatalytic oxidation studies were carried out by using produced TiO2, commercial TiO2 and commercial ZnO nanoparticles. In order to evaluate performance tests, 5 mg/l of MB solution was used. The samples were mixed in the dark for 2 hours for establishing adsorption-desorption equilibrium. The photocatalytic tests of the samples were performed by assessing the decomposition rate of MB solutions under UV light. The results of the photocatalytic showed that the highest color removal efficiencies was obtained by TiO2 catalyst where Methylene blue solution was completely degraded.

Highly efficient photocatalytic TiO2powders were prepared using a conventional ball mill with various milling times of 0, 12, 24 and 48 h. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared TiO2powders was evaluated using the decomposition rate obtained by methylene blue (MB) solution and acetic acid gas under UV light irritation. After 24 h milling, the particle size decreased from 555 nm to 122 nm without changing any of the crystal structure. The photocatalytic TiO2powders prepared by 24 h milling decomposed 94% of the methylene blue solution while the non-milled TiO2powders provided only 61% decomposition. After the removal of acetic acid gas, it took 1.5 h for the 24h-milled powders to decompose 100%, while the non-milled TiO2showed 73% decomposition with same UV illumination duration.

In this paper, the effect of nanoTiO2 content on the thermal properties, mechanical properties, photocatalytic properties of PA6/TiO2-GO composites were investigated. The results indicated that the melting point of the composites decreased gradually with an increase of nanoTiO2 content, and the degree of crystallinity exhibited an increasing trend at first and then tended to decrease. Meanwhile, the breaking strength decreased gradually, whereas the elongation at break increased gradually. Moreover, the nanoTiO2 exhibited an increasing photocatalytic activity for degradation of the methylene blue solution. The incorporation of graphene oxide (GO) could effectively improve the photocatalytic effectiveness of nanoTiO2 by approximately 11%.

Ag/ZnO powders were synthesized through hydrolysis of Zn2+ in an alkaline solution at various mole ratios of Zn2+:OH- without any stabilizer. At a mole ratio of Zn2+:OH- = 1:1.5, the ZnO particles showed as bi-hexagonal prisms. At higher OH- concentrations, the shape became spherical and then finally transformed to an agglomeration of platelet like-shapes at mole ratios of Zn2+:OH- = 1:5. The photocatalytic activity was investigated through degradation of a methylene blue solution. Under irradiation from blacklight fluorescence tubes, ZnO prepared from Zn2+:OH- = 1:1.5 was the best photocatalyst compared with those prepared from different mole ratios of Zn2+:OH-. This could be due to a high area of hexagonal facets as represented by the (0002) plane. By varying the amount of added Ag between 1-5 mol%, the ZnO prepared from 3 mol% of Ag showed the highest efficiency for photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue and its activity was also better than for pure ZnO.

Diatomite supported Cu-doped TiO2 photocatalysts were synthesized by sol-gel method and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), SEM and UV-vis diffuses reflectance of spectroscopy (DRS). The photocatalytic activity was evaluated by photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue solution under visible light irradiation. The results show that TiO2/diatomite ratio had a great influene on their photocatalytic activities. All prepared Cu-TiO2/diatomite had a better photocatalytic activities in comparison with Cu-TiO2 and the Cu-TiO2(30)/diatomite had higher photocatalytic activity than others. The photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue is due to the breaking of the chormophoric group, rather than the simple decoloration.

ZnO/TiO2 nanocomposites with several ratio of the components were prepared by sol-gel method using titanium isopropoxide and titanium butoxide as titania precursors. Phase formation and photocatalytic activity of ZnO/TiO2 nanocomposites depend on ratio of the components and calcination temperature. The photocatalytic activity in dependence on calcination temperasture, phase composition was determined by degradation of methylene blue solution under Hg lamp and solar light imitating illumination. The highest photocatalytic activity showed ZnO/TiO2 nanocomposites containing 99 mol.% ZnO and 50 mol% ZnO when hexagonal ZnTiO3 phase was formed. ZnO/TiO2 nanocomposites exhibited enhanced photoactivity under solar light with respect to Hg lamp irradiation.
