The in situ prepared four component system Pd(OAc)2, 1,3-dialkylbenzimidazolium halides 2a–i and 4a–i, K2CO3 under CO atmosphere catalyses carbonylative cross-coupling reaction of 2-bromopyridine with various boronic acids to yield unsymmetrical arylpyridine ketones.

New derivatives of 4-alkyl-3,5-diaryl-4H-1,2,4-triazole were synthesized utilizing the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction. The presented methodology comprises of the preparation of bromine-containing 4-alkyl-4H-1,2,4-triazoles and their coupling with different commercially available boronic acids in the presence of ionic liquids or in conventional solvents. The obtained compounds were tested for their luminescence properties.

A method for the synthesis of cyclic 3-aryl- and heteroaryl-substituted 1,2-dicarbonyl compounds with different ring sizes by using a Suzuki cross-coupling reaction between 3-halo-1,2-dicarbonyl compounds and arylboronic acids is developed. The 3-halo-1,2-dicarbonyl substrates are easily available from 1,2-dicarbonyl compounds. The method is versatile, affording good to high yields of the target compounds.

There has been a significant interest in organoboron compounds such as arylboronic acids, arylboronate esters and potassium aryltrifluoroborate salts because they are versatile coupling partners in metal-catalysed cross-coupling reactions. On the other hand, their nitrogen analogues, namely, 1,3,2-benzodiazaborole-type compounds have been studied extensively for their intriguing absorption and fluorescence characteristics. Here we describe the first palladium-catalysed Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of easily accessible and ultra-stabilised 2-aryl-1,3-dihydro-1H-benzo[d]1,3,2-diazaborole derivatives with various aryl bromides. Aryl bromides bearing electron-withdrawing, electron-neutral and electron-donating substituents are reacted under the catalytic system furnishing unsymmetrical biaryl products in isolated yields of up to 96% in only 10 minutes.

Amidation of 1'-(diphenylphosphanyl)ferrocene-1-carboxylic acid (Hdpf) with ethane-1,2-diamine afforded N,N'-ethylenebis[1'-(diphenylphosphanyl)ferrocene-1-carboxamide] (1), which was isolated in free and solvated form, 1·2AcOH. Both 1 and Hdpf were further converted to their respective phosphane sulfides, 2·2AcOH and 3 that were structurally characterized. Testing of the amidophosphane ligands in Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction between phenylboronic acid and various aryl halides revealed that catalyst formed in situ from 1 and palladium(II) acetate is highly active in coupling reactions of aryl bromides whilst the corresponding aryl chlorides showed no or only poor conversions. The catalyst based on 2·2AcOH gave markedly lower yields of the coupling products.

AbstractThe Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of 2-bromo-1,3-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzene with arylboronic acids was evaluated and determined to suffer from the formation of large amounts of boronic acid homocoupling products in conjunction with dehalogenation. Homocoupling product formation in this process likely occurs through a rare protonolysis/second transmetalation event rather than by the well-established mechanism requiring the involvement of O2. The scope of this boronic acid homocoupling reaction was investigated and shown to predominate with electron-deficient arylboronic acids. Finally, a good yield of cross-coupling products could be obtained by employing dicyclohexyl(2′,6′-dimethoxybiphenyl-2-yl)phosphine (SPhos) as the ligand.

By using an iron-based catalyst, access to enantioenriched 1,1-diarylakanes was enabled through an enantioselective Suzuki-Miyaura crosscoupling reaction. The combination of a chiral cyanobis(oxazoline) ligand framework and 1,3,5-trimethoxybenzene additive were essential to afford high yields and enantioselectivities in cross-coupling reactions between unactivated aryl boronic esters and a variety of benzylic chlorides, including challenging ortho-substituted benzylic chloride substrates. Mechanistic investigations implicate a stereoconvergent pathway involving carbon-centered radical intermediates.

A radical–radical cross-coupling reaction of phenols with tert-butyl nitrite has been developed with the use of water as an additive. This method allows the construction of C–N bonds under an air atmosphere at room temperature, providing the ortho-nitrated phenol derivative in moderate to good yields.
