Microbial-sponge reef mounds of the Carnian, Late Triassic, Maantang Formation crop out along the northwestern margin of the Sichuan Basin in South China. Samples from three mounds have been investigated and their ostracod assemblages are here described for the first time. Thirty-three species are present, distributed into 19 genera, including five newly described species: Carinobairdia cabralae n. sp., Hiatobairdia senegasi n. sp., Hiatobairdia zhengshuyingi n. sp., Hungarella gommerii n. sp, Pontocyprella goussardi n. sp. While most of the encountered genera are already known from the Carnian stage worldwide, the Maantang assemblages are precursors in providing the oldest occurrences of the family Schulerideidae, typical of the Middle and Late Jurassic of Europe, and of the genus Carinobairdia, which was until now restricted to the Norian-Rhaetian interval. These records demonstrate the underestimated importance of the easternmost Tethys in the early Mesozoic evolution of marine ostracods. Some important Jurassic European taxa might have originated on the eastern margin of the Tethys during the Carnian, migrated to the western Tethys later during the Late Triassic and diversified there up to the record known for the European Jurassic. Microbioerosion trace fossil analysis of associated brachiopod shells revealed Orthogonum giganteum as the sole identifiable ichnotaxon and represents the first record of this ichnospecies in Triassic strata. The complete absence of microborings produced by phototrophic trace makers points towards aphotic depths for the deposition of the Maantang Formation, providing independent evidence suggesting that typical shallow water ostracods (Carinobairdia, Schulerideidae) radiated in relatively deep settings.

The family Tischeriidae is recorded from Madagascar for the first time. Coptotriche alavelona Lees and Stonis, sp. n., is described from high elevation tropical moist forest of Madagascar, and its proposed generic placement discussed. DNA of this species has been extracted and conserved for future phylogenetic or barcoding studies. The external features and male genitalia are figured and described. An updated checklist and a distribution map for all 13 Tischeriidae species currently recorded from the Afrotropics are provided.

A new genus of lichenized fungi of the family Porinaceae is described, known from Costa Rica and Brazil. Flabelloporina Sobreira, M. Cáceres & Lücking is a thus far monospecific genus with an isolated position of its only species in the family, morphologically different from all other genera in Porinaceae. The genus is characterized by the production of numerous, flabelliform squamules on the surface of the thallus, together with black perithecia and transversally septate ascospores (with three septa in the only species). The new combination Flabelloporina squamulifera (Breuss, Lücking & Navarro) Sobreira, M. Cáceres & Lücking is proposed, based on Porina squamulifera Breuss, Lücking & Navarro, and the species is for the first time reported from Brazil.

Psammopauropus macrospinus gen. et sp. n., a remarkable new genus and species of the pauropod family Hansenauropodidae is described from the marine littoral habitat of Hainan Island, South China. It has one pair of dorsal spines on the pygidium differentiated from seta a1, large globular seta st on pygidium, and globular distal setae on the tarsi by which Psammopauropus can be easily distinguished from all other genera of the family. In addition, the adaptive characters of the littoral pauropods are preliminary discussed. This is the first record of the family Hansenauropodidae from China.

Mites of the family Athyreacaridae are recorded from Asia for the first time. Two new species of Athyreacarus are described, A. indicus sp. nov., collected on the beetles Bolbohamatum laevicolle and B. marginale in India, and A. brevisetosus sp. nov., collected on a beetle Bolboceras sp. in Sri Lanka. An updated key to species of the genus Athyreacarus is provided.

AbstractLacconotus punctatus LeConte is reported for the first time from Atlantic Canada from a specimen collected in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. This is the first record of the family Mycteridae in the region. The bionomics and systematics of the species are briefly discussed. The report is also situated in the context of the developing knowledge of saproxylic beetles in the region.

The oribatid mite family Liacaridae (Acari, Oribatida) is recorded in Vietnam for the first time. Two new species of liacarids of the genera Liacarus and Xenillus are described from Tam Dao National Park, northern Vietnam. Liacarus vietnamensis sp. nov. is similar to L. laterostris Mihelčič, 1954 in the morphology of lamellar cusps (inner teeth well-developed; interlamellar tubercle absent) and in having long interlamellar setae and short notogastral setae, but differs by the directions of lamellar cusps and morphology of bothridial setae. Xenillus tamdaoensis sp. nov. is similar to X. longipilus Pérez-Íñigo & Peña, 1995 in having long notogastral setae, insertion of notogastral setae lm posterior to la, and the presence of an interlamellar tubercle, but differs by the morphology and position of lamellar cusps, size of the interlamellar tubercle and length of interlamellar setae.

Fifteen insect gall morphotypes were found on 11 plant species (8 families) in three fragments of the Dense Ombrophylous Lowland Forest, in the municipalities of Maracajá, Içara and Araranguá, Santa Catarina. Most of the galls occurred in leaves, followed by stems galls and a single gall morphotype in Leandra sp. (Melatomastaceae), occurred in both leaves and stems. Glabrous and isolated galls were more frequent than hairy and gregarious galls. Lauraceae was the family of plant with greater wealth of galls. It was pointed out the first record of the plant Microstachys serrulata (Euphorbiaceae) for the state of Santa Catarina. Galls found in Ilex theezans (Aquifoliaceae), Microstachys serrulata (Euphorbiaceae), Dahlstedtia muehlbergiana (Fabaceae), Nectandra oppositifolia (Lauraceae), Leandra sp. (Melastomataceae), Miconia sellowiana (Melastomataceae), Myrcia multiflora (Myrtaceae) and Urera nitida (Urticaceae) were recorded for the first time in the State of Santa Catarina.

Mazaceae, a family native to Asia and Oceania, is reported for the first time for the Colombian flora, with Mazus pumilus (Burm.f.) Steenis. This species is easily recognized by its herbaceous habit, leaves rosulate, elliptic to obovate cauline leaves, terminal, racemose inflorescences, bilabiate flowers with one 2-lobed upper lip and one 3-lobed lower lip, and fruit completely enclosed in the calyx. To date, this species has been recorded in three departments of Colombia, growing between the pavement. Additionally, we clarify the synonyms of this taxon.

Stem-group euarthropods are important for understanding the early evolutionary and ecological history of the most species-rich animal phylum on Earth. Of particular interest are fossil taxa that occupy a phylogenetic position immediately crownwards of radiodonts, for this part of the euarthropod tree is associated with the appearance of several morphological features that characterize extant members of the group. Here, we report two new euarthropods from the Cambrian Stage 4 Guanshan Biota of South China. The fuxianhuiid Alacaris ? sp. is represented by isolated appendages composed of a gnathobasic protopodite and an endite-bearing endopod of at least 20 podomeres. This material represents the youngest occurrence of the family Chengjiangocarididae, and its first record outside the Chengjiang and Xiaoshiba biotas. We also describe Lihuacaris ferox gen. et sp. nov. based on well-preserved and robust isolated appendages. Lihuacaris ferox exhibits an atypical combination of characters including an enlarged rectangular base, 11 endite-bearing podomeres and a hypertrophied distal element bearing 8–10 curved spines. Alacaris ? sp. appendages display adaptations for macrophagy. Lihuacaris ferox appendages resemble the frontal appendages of radiodonts, as well as the post-oral endopods of chengjiangocaridid fuxianhuids and other deuteropods with well-documented raptorial/predatory habits. Lihuacaris ferox contributes towards the record of endemic biodiversity in the Guanshan Biota.

Blattophila peregrinata Carreno, 2017 (Nematoda: Oxyuridomorpha: Thelastomatidae) is proposed as a junior synonym of Suifunema peregrinatum (Carreno, 2017) n. comb., based on the revision of the type material of S. caudelli Chitwood, 1932, the type and only species of the genus. The revision permitted the emendation of some features of the original descriptions, namely the position of the nerve ring at level of the corpus instead the isthmus and the female genital tract didelphic-prodelphic instead didelphic-amphidelphic. The males of S. peregrinatum n. comb. are the only ones known for the genus. Thus, an amended generic diagnosis is given, including information on the males. Both S. peregrinatum n. comb. and S. caudelli differ by having a more slender body, a longer tail, and the vulva farther from the anterior end in the former. S. peregrinatum n. comb. is recorded for the first time from Pycnoscelus indicus Fabricius, 1775 (Blattodea: Blaberidae) from Japan. The specimens from Japan are morphologically consistent with other populations of the species from the USA and the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador. Only some morphometrics vary slightly, but these are within the range of the species. The phylogenetic position of the genus among the family Thelastomatidae is discussed, including sequences of the D2-D3 LSU rDNA of specimens from both the type population (Ohio, USA) and Japan.
