Construction is one of industries that have negative impacts on the environment. Relevant organizations both in Thailand and other countries have been trying to minimize these impacts. Developing green building assessment systems is one of efforts in reducing environmental impacts and using natural resources efficiently. Currently, there are many green building assessment systems with different objectives and assessment scopes in some details. This could cause some confusion in selecting the suitable system for the project in accordance with its environmental, social and economical contexts. This study was aimed to compare and provide overview and components of these systems. The comparison results can be used as a guideline for further development of green building assessment systems. It is found that most major green building assessment systems still concern only environmental issues while newly developed systems have included social and economic issues in their criteria. Furthermore, the system which is developed in one environment could not be used with full capabilities in another. This will lead to more research in developing the assessment system that is more comprehensive and adaptable enough to be used effectively in various environment.

This paper proposes some suggestions to perfect our current green building assessment system. Green building and ecological building is undoubtedly the trend of construction industry. Green building assessment systems play a directional function for the design, the construction and the use of green architecture. This paper introduces the development of green building assessment system at China and other country firstly. Through the comparison and analysis for some kinds of green building assessment systems, found that that the applicability for buildings and areas and the fairness for ecological environment and surrounding people of current assessment system should be optimized. Finally, proposed that several aspects must be considered, and thus establish the new system-A Green Building Assessment Method Which Based on the Environmental Disturbance and Ecological Compensation.

Presently the sustainable development stratagem has made the green buildings to be a trend of building industry in China, and the assessment to the green buildings is becoming more and more important in developing the green buildings. In this paper the meaning of the green building assessment is explained, several main domestic and foreign green building assessment systems are analyzed and compared, and the common ground and limitations of these assessment methods are presented. Then a novel assessment index system which is more comprehensive, scientific and suitable for green buildings in China is developed by using the life cycle assessment method. This system contains six categories including land saving and outdoor environment, energy saving and utilization, material saving and utilization, water saving and utilization, indoor environment quality and economy. According to the decision-making stage, design stage, construction stage, operation and maintenance stage, each category is divided into more concrete indexes. At last the established assessment system is used to evaluate a typical building in Xi’an, China. The final novel assessment index system is of theoretical and practical significance for the assessment and development of green buildings in China.

There is little provision about construction in the assessment system for green building in China, but green construction plays an important role in green building and it is a trend that the assessment system for green building should include the green construction in China. Based on contrasts of evaluation standard for green building, combining with operation experiments of green Olympic building assessment system, difficulties in developing of green construction industry in China is proposed such as policy, time, concept and materials. Thus, popularizing measures for green construction are suggested, including extending standards for green building, establishing owner inspiriting system and building system, developing popularity effect of green construction.

In the Green Building assessment system, vertical planting technology and criterion problems are neglected. This paper compared with the existing standards, and summarized the key technology in the actual project, pointing out that projects should be classified, both in different structure conditions and the use of various materials. Maintenance management scores of vertical planting in Green Building evaluation should be strengthened. This method exceeds traditional standard, and focus more on technology and the management of vertical planting in Green Building.

Green building is the inevitable trend of future building development, many countries have formed their own green building assessment system. For now at stage of rapid development of urbanization in China, the establishment of green building assessment system and its further improved are of great significance. As a scientific evaluation system, the index of green building assessment system should have a sound weights system. This article attempts to apply the Analytic hierarchy process method to the Green Building evaluation standards of China, which intend to explore the method of constructing the weight system of China Green Building Evaluation standards.

Green building increases the efficiency and reduces impacts on the environment, which may resolve serious resource and environmental problems in China that is the largest construction market in the world. This paper analyzed the unbalanced regional characteristics of green building in China. Taking the only platinum score as example, the method of how to get the green building criteria is debated. This paper suggests that analyzing the regional characteristics of the building and adjusted weights of regional factors to establish scientific green building assessment system with local characteristics is needed to be considered urgently.

Excessive development has led to main changes in world civilization, including the societal, natural environment, and economical. Construction industry is significant contributor towards numerous environmental effects. Therefore, the concept of implementation “green” has been concern. Green building has become a flagship for sustainable development that responsible for balancing long-term environmental, social health and social economic. Green building assessment systems have been introduced to evaluate the sustainability level of the green buildings such as GBI, PH JKR, GreenRE and MyCREST. Although green building assessment have been the study of many researchers over the past twenty years, it is still no systematic assessment of the detailed criteria for each assessment systems. Therefore, this research aimed to conduct critical review of green building assessment systems in Malaysia. This research is conducted through comparison analysis where the points allocated for each criteria is being measured and compared. It founds that energy efficiency criteria is the most widely used in green building assessment systems followed by water efficiency and innovations. This research showed that each green building assessment systems showed different culture and they used different criteria in evaluating the sustainability level of the green building projects. The outcomes of this research is expected to create awareness among construction industry players or decision makers to understand better and have a different perspective toward current green building assessment systems.
