According to Ferreira and Otley (2009) contextual factors and organizational culture are considered as variable factors that have a significant impact on the performance management system framework, which comprises 12 questions/issues. The intention of this work is to define how organizational culture influences the question/issue of performance information use, through the example of Air Traffic Management (ATM). In fact, based on Schein’s model we determine how two of the levels of organizational culture influence the performance information use within the Moroccan ATM system.

This study aims to identify types of information use in South Korea's performance management system and the level of credibility accorded to these types of information use, along with the factors that affect them. The results show that use of performance measures is passive rather than instrumental and conceptual, while credibility accorded the system is low, and that the main factors that influence the system's use and credibility are leadership commitment and usefulness of information. These findings suggest that the current performance management system in Korea is not being well used and that a change is in order. In particular, external factors, such as reform of the U.S. system, might act as key drivers for change in the near future.

The case highlights the key concerns and issues an organization may face if its performance management system (PMS) does not serve its intended purpose and how it can cause demotivation and dissatisfaction among employees and result in an overall decline in organizational performance. It also illustrates how employees’ organizational culture and perception can be as important as the system design and can present challenges even if an elaborate system is planned. In the face of increasing turmoil among employees towards management and the decreasing performance of the organization, TECHNO21 decided to change its current PMS, which seemed a difficult but necessary step to achieve the desired performance levels and overall strategic objectives of the organization.

The future air traffic management system is to be built around the notion of trajectory-based operations. It will rely on automated tools related to trajectory prediction in order to define, share, revise, negotiate and update the trajectory of the aircraft before and during the flight, in some case, in near real time. This paper illustrates how existing standards on trajectory description such as the aircraft intent description language can be enhanced including optimisation capabilities based on numerical optimal control. The Aircraft Intent Description Language is a formal language that has been created in order to describe aircraft intent information in a rigorous, unambiguous and flexible manner. It has been implemented in a platform for a modular design of the trajectory generation process. A case study is presented to explore its effectiveness and identify the requirements and needs to generate optimised aircraft intents with higher automation and flexibility. Preliminary results show the suitability of numerical optimal control to design optimised aircraft intents based on the aircraft intent description language.
