Thread grinding is the traditional operation of final machining for worms and other critical threads. However, similar to other types of tooth grinding, this type of machining is expensive; it requires application of high cost equipment and needs valuable workers. In many practical cases, its alternative can be the application of edge machining, especially as the possibilities of controlling the corresponding advanced machine-tools and their accuracy have been increased significantly. This paper describes the experience of implementation of edge machining of worm threads within a low-series production of spiroid and worm gearboxes for pipeline valves gained at the Institute of Mechanics named after prof. V.I. Goldfarb of Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University and at the Small Innovative Enterprise “Mechanik”. Schemes of thread machining by straight and radial parts of a single cutter and by a face cutter head are considered. The technique is implemented, and it provides the reduction of labor intensity and prime cost of both the preliminary and final machining of worms, including heat-strengthened ones; and it also results in the correctly localized contact in worm and spiroid gears.

The method of consultative instruction is promising for training of bachelors, masters and specialists, who possess professional competences. This method involves the active use of modern gadgets in the learning process of students. The professional competences of a specialist - readiness or ability to rationally and productively use knowledge, skills, habits, methods of activity, necessary for their professional sphere. The advisory teaching method is being tested for the teaching of future bachelors in the Department of Automated machine tools and tooling systems in the Samara State Technical University. The method is used for the preparation of laboratory lessons in such disciplines as Fundamentals of Computer Graphics and Computer simulation. These courses were selected for the experiment, since the curriculum sets out only four- hour laboratory works. The teacher gives theoretical input on the construction of sketches, drawings, models, parts and units from the moment the computer is switched on and the program for the simulation is started until the end of the laboratory work. The article highlights the positive aspects of the method of advisory training both for teachers and for students. The author specifies some restrictions for use of the advisory training method. The experiment has shown that while doing laboratory work the students were much more motivated, productive and creative.

The article deals with issues surrounding the production management of enterprise with small-series production type. Specific features of small-series production are determined. Task complex defined by initial production phase comes under review. Problem of calculation, analysis and optimization of machine load is covered in depth. It is assumed that machine load calculating task will minimize potencial stress of production plan and maximize workplace capacity. Calculations are carried out for each type of work for the required period (year, month, week, etc.) for the whole enterprise, workshops, production areas, workplaces. The labor intensity for each workplace and usage coefficient are calculated. The analysis of obtained indexes is the basis for redistribution of the workload capacity.

The investigation purpose: simplification and ensuring tooling high performance of two-pair gear trains in machines with change gears. Methods used: numerical experiments for the characteristics definition of change gear sets in gear trains, a comparative analysis of different sets characteristics, a result visualization in a table form. Relevance of the method offered is substantiated with considerable labor intensity in the definition of the gear combination in gear trains by existing methods based on tables use mainly through possible way selection. Novelty: there are offered special algorithms of setup calculations decreasing operation time for the choice of gear combinations of gear trains. Basic results: there are developed computer programs for the definition of gear train combinations required and an electronic directory for machine-tool two-pair gear train setups recommended for use by workers of technological departments and in design service in production activities of engineering and motor car repair companies, in research centers and colleges (in thesis investigations, in training processes of engineering experts).

Ultramicrotomists live in a state of guerilla warfare with chatter. This situation is likely to be permanent. We can infer this from the history of machine tools. If set the wrong way for the particular combination of cutting tool and material, most if not all machine tools will chatter. In more than 100 years since machine tools became common, no one has evolved a practical recipe that guarantees avoiding chatter. Rather than follow some single very conservative rule to avoid chatter in all cases, machinists detect it when it happens, and change conditions until it stops. This is possible because they have no trouble telling when their cutting tool is chattering. They can see chatter marks, and they can also hear a sometimes deafening noise.
