Abstract A definition of a convolution of tensor fields on group manifolds is given, which is then generalised to generic homogeneous spaces. This is applied to the product of gauge fields in the context of ‘gravity = gauge × gauge’. In particular, it is shown that the linear Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) gauge transformations of two Yang-Mills gauge fields generate the linear BRST diffeomorphism transformations of the graviton. This facilitates the definition of the ‘gauge × gauge’ convolution product on, for example, the static Einstein universe, and more generally for ultrastatic spacetimes with compact spatial slices.

We show that the two-dimensional gravity coupled to c=−2 matter field in Polyakov’s light-cone gauge has a twisted N=2 superconformal algebra. We also show that the BRST cohomology in the light-cone gauge actually coincides with that in the conformal gauge. Based on this observation the relations between the topological algebras are discussed.

The black hole final state proposal implements manifest unitarity in the process of black hole formation and evaporation in quantum gravity, by postulating a unique final state boundary condition at the singularity. We argue that this proposal can be embedded in the gauge/gravity context by invoking a path integral formalism inspired by the Schwinger–Keldysh like thermo-field double construction in the dual field theory. This allows us to realize the gravitational quantum channels for information retrieval to specific deformations of the field theory path integrals and opens up new connections between geometry and information theory.
