Duration Dependence in Migration Behaviour: Cumulative Inertia versus Stochastic Change

In this paper a new theoretical framework and supporting empirical evidence on the relationship between movement probabilities and length of stay are presented. Individuals' evaluations of the relative value of alternative locations are assumed to evolve stochastically, with a possible tendency either to cumulative inertia or to cumulative stress. In general this yields a nonmonotonic duration function, with probabilities of movement starting at zero, rising and then falling—a pattern consistent with either cumulative tendency, or neither. A version of the model fitted to data on household movement intentions, from the UK General Household Survey, confirms the hypothesised form of this function and indicates a dominance of cumulative stress over cumulative inertia.

The authors discuss the issue of intergenerational transmission of parenting from an empirical and psychoanalytic perspective. After presenting a framework to explain their conception of parenting, they describe intergenerational transmission of parenting as a key to interpreting and eventually changing parenting behaviors. Then they present (1) the empirical approach aimed at determining if there is actually a stability across generations that contributes to harsh parenting and eventually maltreatment and (2) the psyphoanalytic thinking that seeks to explain the continuity in terms of representations and clinical phenomena. The authors also discuss the relationship between the attachment and the caregiving systems and hypothesize a common base for the two systems in childhood experience. Finally, they propose the psychoanalytic perspective as a fruitful theoretical framework to integrate the evidence for the neurophysiological mediators and moderators of intergenerational transmission. Psychoanalytically informed research can provide clinically relevant insights and hypotheses to be tested.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between the interactive use of budgets, role clarity and individual creativity. Design/methodology/approach Survey data was collected from mid-level managers in publicly listed Indonesian companies. The data was analysed using partial least squares. Findings The findings indicate that while there is no direct association between an interactive use of budgets and individual creativity, an interactive use of budgets can affect individual creativity via role clarity. Originality/value This study is one of only a few studies that provide empirical evidence on the relationships between individual creativity, role clarity and the interactive use of budgets. While previous studies have been undertaken in Western countries such as the USA and the UK, this study focuses on an emerging economy – Indonesia in which firms have been trying to improve individual creativity.

Green HRM has become one of the most critical topics in the Business world and sustainability. Many researchers and studies indicate that environmental green staffing associated strongly with the success of financial and marketplace components. The Green Human resource in green-oriented organisations plays a significant part in shaping the culture of suitability in their organisation. Shaping the practices and applications of the HR with the green view and applications will have an effect on all HR decisions and through all the activity of shareholders viewpoint. Currently, all the work gives more attention to the relationship between GHRM and organisation sustainability. GHRM help in creating, developing and implementing the strategy of sustainable business within the organisation. Although green HRM is still with ground-breaking, unclear define concept and its applications facing some difficulties. The purposes of this study in to present a full theoretical framework for GHRM practices and to test the perspective of the GHRM concept in construction companies in Egypt and the UK. The main finding is the perspective of the UK is higher than Egypt in realizing GHRM important to the organisations.

This paper addresses the social and cultural significance of convenience food, often regarded as among the least healthy and most unsustainable of dietary options, subject to frequent moral disapprobation. The paper focuses, in particular, on the relationship between convenience and care, conventionally seen in oppositional terms as a culinary antinomy. Informed by a ‘theories of practice’ approach, the paper presents empirical evidence from ethnographically-informed research on everyday consumption practices in the UK to demonstrate how convenience foods can be used as an expression of care rather than as its antithesis. The paper uses Fisher and Tronto’s theorisation of caring about, taking care of, caregiving and care-receiving to draw out the dynamics of this morally contested social practice.

Despite previous research in the literature indicating the relationship between corporate sustainability, organizational capabilities and industrial clusters, this interconnection has not yet been satisfactorily explored and requires further investigation. Therefore, this paper proposes a theoretical framework that relates five cluster characteristics (CC) in developing seven Organizational Capabilities for Sustainability (OCS), which are identified in the literature review. To refine the theoretical framework, seven companies were inserted in a Brazilian footwear cluster. Out of the 29 proposed relationships in the theoretical framework, 16 were evidenced and they generated our research propositions. This study primarily expands the literature by providing theoretical and empirical evidence for the role that clusters can have in enabling companies to develop OCS and in turn improve their corporate sustainability.
