In a previous paper (Naguib 1962) the author reviewed the literature on the classification of benzoic acid derivatives into growthwinhihiting and growth-promoting substances. Salama (1959) discussed the effects of p.aminobenzoic acid on the respiration of the fungal mats of Rhizoctonia solani and concluded that very low concentrations of this substance (04 and 3 2 p.p.m.) caused inhibition of respiration, despite the fact that this substance was regarded as a growth promoter for lower organisms and a constituent in the biological synthesis of folic acid (Hotson 1952).

Chrysopogon gryllus and Festuca vallesiaca are components of a number of meadow-pasture communities in Serbia. We performed the analyses of phenolics that influence quality and digestibility of grasses to a great extent. Total phenolics were measured spectrophotometrically and phenolic acids by HPLC analysis. The aboveground parts of C. gryllus contained 10.6 mg/g whereas F. vallesiaca of 21.6 mg/g total phenolics. Bound phenolics dominated over free ones in both species. The content of both free and bound p-coumaric, ferulic, p-hydroxybenzoic and syringic acid was higher in C. gryllus (6.34 mg/g) than in F. vallesiaca (3.96 mg/g). Derivatives of cinnamic acid prevailed in both species compared to the benzoic acid derivatives. Low quality of C. gryllus is connected with its high tissue phenolic acids and mediocre quality of F. vallesiaca with the high content of total phenolics that act unfavourably on digestibility of such grasses.

The paper deals with the results of capillary columns implementation in vapor-phase chromatography. Glass and narrow-bore columns covered with liquid stationary phase and polyphenyl ether were used, the mixtures of aliphatic alcohols, acids, amines and ether derivatives of disulpho-benzoic acid, which are semi-products of additive synthesis analyzed. The usage of water vapor as a moving carrier of nitrogen enabled to decrease the analysis time and improve division efficiency. The retention time, height values of equivalent theoretic plates and coefficient of analyzed components asymmetry were calculated. Obtained results justify the practicability of glass capillary application for the analysis of disulpho-benzoic acid derivatives via vapor-phase chromatography method.

Introduction. In recent years, interest in the compounds of the benzofuroxane series has increased, because they have a wide range of biological activity, and in addition are donors of nitric oxide. In the scientific literature, many works are related to the synthesis and study of the biological activity of 5-nitro-4,6-dichlorobenzofuroxane amino derivatives, whereas amino derivatives of the 5,7-dichlor-4,6-dinitrobenzofuroxane substrate have been poorly studied.Aim. Is the synthesis of new amino derivatives of 5,7-dichloro-4,6-dinitrobenzofuroxane and the study of their biological activity.Materials and methods. Investigated the reaction of condensation of 5,7-dichloro-4,6-dinitrobenzofuroxane with different aromatic amines, containing functional groups of acceptor character in their structure were selected. In order to increase the yield for each specific reaction, the reaction conditions were selected (the reaction temperature, medium, and the amount of amine). The structure of the compounds confirmed IR, NMR spectra and elemental analysis. Results and discussion. New compounds in the 5,7-diamino-4,6-dinitrobenzofuroxane series were obtained. Acute toxicity, acaricidal and bacteriostatic activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were studied. The obtained compounds were found to have high pharmacological activity, superior to the comparison drug (Chlorophos and Creolin).Conclusion. Most of the amino derivative synthesized 5,7-dichloro-4,6-dinitrobenzofuroxane have a high activity against mites and bacteria. Compounds containing in their structure chlorine and methyl radicals, have biological activity at low concentrations, are low-toxic and belong to the 4th hazard class.

Introduction. Benzoic acid and its numerous derivatives are widely used in all areas of chemical production. However, there is no information about the toxic properties of a large number of benzoic acid derivatives. The purpose of the study was to study the toxic properties of several derivatives of benzoic acids in intragastric intake in an experiment.Material and methods. The following derivatives of benzoic acid were studied: 4-chlorobenzoic, 4-methoxybenzoic, p-acetoxybenzoic and 2-methoxy-5-sulfamoylbenzoic acids. The studies were performed on white laboratory rats; toxicity was studied in repeated experiments with the oral administration of substances. The condition of the animals was assessed by integrated parameters, indices of biochemical analyzes of blood serum, morphological data from a study of the liver, kidneys, heart, stomach, pancreas and thyroid glands.\Results. According to toxicometric data, 4-chlorobenzoic acid is classified as moderately hazardous, hazard class III, 4-methoxybenzoic, p-acetoxybenzoic and 2-methoxy-5-sulfamoylbenzoic acids belong to hazard class IV (low hazard). Under the subchronic administration of all the studied compounds, there was a significant increase in urea concentration, aminotransferase activity, and a decrease in catalase activity, most pronounced in poisoning with 4-chlorobenzoic and 4-methoxybenzoic acids. Morphohistological studies confirmed the predominant effect of benzoic acid derivatives on the functioning of the hepatorenal system in the animals exposed to poisoning. Microscopically fatty liver dystrophy was observed, there was a diffuse proliferation of Kupffer cells. In the kidneys, the glomeruli were enlarged in size; the lumen of the Shumlyansky-Bowman’s capsule was narrowed as a result of swelling of the capillary endothelium.Conclusion. Subchronic oral intake of 4-chlorobenzoic, 4-methoxybenzoic, p-acetoxybenzoic, and 2-methoxy-5-sulfamoylbenzoic acids leads to many disorders in the body, which are mainly of a common toxic nature with a predominant effect on the state of the hepatorenal system. The most pronounced organotoxic effect is manifested in the chlorine-containing derivative of benzoic acid - 4-chlorobenzoic acid. Due to the low toxicity of benzoic acids, chronic poisoning in the workplace is unlikely; it is possible only if the technological processes are disrupted.
