Chemical composition of groundwaters was investigated in the region of the Hornsund fjord (southern Spitsbergen). The investigations were conducted during polar expeditions organized by the University of Wroclaw in two summer seasons of 2003 and 2006. Three zones of groundwater circulation: suprapermafrost, intrapermafrost and subpermafrost, were identified in areas of perennial permafrost in the region of Hornsund. The zone of shallow circulation occurs in non-glaciated (suprapermafrost) and subglacial areas. In this zone, the chemical composition of groundwater originates from initial chemical composition of precipitation, mineralogical composition of bedrock, oxidation of sulphides and dissolution of carbonates. The intermediate system of circulation is connected with water flow inside and below perennial permafrost (intrapermafrost and subpermafrost). In this zone, the chemical composition of groundwater is mainly controlled by dissolution of carbonates, ion exchange processes involving Ca2+ substitution by Na+, and oxidation of sulphides under oxygen-depleted conditions. The subpermafrost zone (deep groundwater circulation) occurs in deep-tectonic fractures, which are likely conduits for the descent of shallow groundwater to deeper depths. In this zone, the groundwater shows lower mineralization comparing to intrapermafrost zone and has a multi-ion nature Cl–HCO3–Na-Ca–Mg.

This chapter is a literature review of intermediate system to intermediate system (IS-IS) routing protocol to provide basic security mechanisms against cyber-attacks and enhance network security. IS-IS was originally developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as a link state routing protocol. It was first built with the ability to route CLNPs or connectionless network protocols according to the OSI standard equal to IP. IS-IS is also developed so that it can accommodate routing for any layer three-based protocol. Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) in 1990 specified the support for IP and introduced IPv6 extensions in 2000. IS-IS protocol implementation was written as modules in order for it to be distributed freely and easily installed on the GNU routing software. SourceForge.net supported the project and gave access for developers to easily contribute to the project. The chapter elaborates the ISIS routing protocol for network security and proposes a critical survey on security routing protocols.

AbstractIn multi-channel tunneling systems quantum interference effects modify tunneling conductance spectra due to Fano effect. We investigated the impact of Hubbard type Coulomb interaction on tunneling conductance spectra for the system formed by several interacting impurity atoms or quantum dots localised between the contact leads. It was shown that the Fano shape of tunneling conductance spectra strongly changes in the presence of on-site Coulomb interaction between localised electrons in the intermediate system. The main effect which determines the shape of the tunneling peaks could be not Fano interference but mostly nonequilibrium dependence of the occupation numbers on bias voltage.
