This study evaluated the psychometric properties of a self-report scale for assessing perceived driver competence, labeled the Self-Efficacy Scale for Driver Competence (SSDC), using item response theory analyses. Two samples of Swedish driving-license examinees (n = 795; n = 714) completed two versions of the SSDC that were parallel in content. Prior work, using classical test theory analyses, has provided support for the validity and reliability of scores from the SSDC. This study investigated the measurement precision, item hierarchy, and differential functioning for males and females of the items in the SSDC as well as how the rating scale functions. The results confirmed the previous findings; that the SSDC demonstrates sound psychometric properties. In addition, the findings showed that measurement precision could be increased by adding items that tap higher self-efficacy levels. Moreover, the rating scale can be improved by reducing the number of categories or by providing each category with a label.

The aim of this study is to improve a measurement tool to evaluate the self-efficacy of Electrical-Electronics Engineering students through their basic electronics skills. The sample group is composed of 124 Electrical-Electronics engineering students. The validity of the scale is analyzed with two different methods through factor analysis and distinctiveness. To evaluate the how much each item that exists in the scale can measure the factor they belong to, item total factor correlations and corrected correlations are calculated on the data. According to the acquired values, each item and each factor in the scale are found to serve to the run-of the scale and the aim of scaling the desired facility, in a meaningful level. Moreover, analyzing the t value related to the differences between the groups of top 27% and bottom 27%, the item distinctiveness’s are researched and it is detected that the distinctiveness of both of the run-of the scale and each one of the items is high level; in other words, it is detected that each item is distinctive in the desired level. The internal consistency coefficients of the scale is calculated using two congruent halves correlations, Cronbach Alpha, Sperman-Brown formula and Guttmann split-half reliability formula. Consequently, it is concluded that the scale is a reliable and valid scale and this scale can be used to determine the basic electronics skills of the Electrical-Electronics Engineering students through their self-perceptions.

Medication nonadherence remains a significant obstacle to achieving improved health outcomes in patients with chronic disease. Self-efficacy, the confidence in one’s ability to perform a given task such as taking one’s medications, is an important determinant of medication adherence, indicating the need for reliable and valid tools for measuring this construct. This study sought to develop a self-efficacy scale for medication adherence in chronic disease management that can be used in patients with a broad range of literacy skills. The Self-efficacy for Appropriate Medication Use (SEAMS) was developed by a multidisciplinary team with expertise in medication adherence and health literacy. Its psychometric properties were evaluated among 436 patients with coronary heart disease and other comorbid conditions. Reliability was evaluated by measuring internal consistency and test-retest reliability. Principal component factor analysis was performed to evaluate the validity of the SEAMS. Reliability and validity analyses were also performed separately among patients with low and higher literacy levels. The final 13-item scale had good internal consistency reliability (Cronbach’s α = 0.89). A two-factor solution was found, explaining 52.3% of the scale’s variance. The scale performed similarly across literacy levels. The SEAMS is a reliable and valid instrument that may provide a valuable assessment of medication self-efficacy in chronic disease management, and appears appropriate for use in patients with low literacy skills.

This study develops a scale that assesses the self-efficacy of Sri Lankan nursing educators in assuming the roles of nursing educators and validates its psychometric properties. This methodological research followed the DeVellis Scale Development Model, which involves six steps of instrument development and evaluation. Preliminary items were determined through a literature review and focus group interviews with nine Sri Lankan nursing experts. The experts, comprising five South Korean and two Sri Lankan nursing professors, tested the scale’s content validity. Moreover, 15 nursing educators participated in a pilot study, and 126 educators took part in the main survey. To evaluate the scale’s validity and reliability, the data from a preliminary questionnaire were analyzed using SPSS/IBM and AMOS 24.0. Further, construct validity was tested using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, and reliability was tested by calculating Cronbach’s alpha and performing split-half testing. Finally, 39 items under four themes, “clinical mentorship” (18 items), “research” (10), “teaching” (6), and “advising” (5), explained 63.5% of the total variance. Confirmatory factor analysis results revealed an acceptable model fit for the final scale. The developed scale achieved a Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.97. Thus, the psychometrical properties of the scale measuring Sri Lankan nursing educators’ self-efficacy were comprehensively evaluated and found acceptable. The developed scale will be useful in guideline development or studies regarding the self-efficacy of nursing educators’ roles in developing countries with similar context to Sri Lanka.
