Through the lens of assemblage thinking and “territorialisation,” this article examines the operationalisation of language support by the voluntary sector in the Thorney Island and Sopley camps, which temporarily accommodated Vietnamese refugee arrivals in Britain in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Drawing on archival sources, the role and agency of interpreters are foregrounded in an analysis of the relationships between the materiality of the camps, camp practices, and their impact on refugee experience. A post-camp initiative to train refugees as parasocial workers (a role that included interpreting) reveals a more person-centred approach, in contrast to what we have termed a solutionist approach to interpreting observed in the camps.

Il contributo proposto si basa sulla presentazione analitica e di taglio valutativo di alcune azioni progettuali di contrasto alla povertà educativa realizzate negli ultimi anni e che hanno consentito sia di rafforzare il sistema di offerta sia di promuovere comunità capaci di eserci-tare una funzione autenticamente educante. Nello specifico con "Family Hub Mondi per Crescere" (capofila consorzio Co&So, Firenze) viene presa in considerazione la figura del case manager. Il progetto "Icam" (Istituto Caute-la Attenuata Madri Detenute - Comune di Milano, Ministero della Giustizia, cooperativa so-ciale Genera) ha ricreato un contesto di "normalità" per lo sviluppo armonioso dei bambini e delle loro mamme nell'ambiente carcerario. La cura e il coinvolgimento del territorio e del-la comunità come valore per contrastare la povertà educativa sono azioni del progetto "Co-munità Santa Cecilia" (cooperativa Paolo Babini, Forlì). Infine "Passi Piccoli" (capofila cooperativa Koinè, Milano) ha utilizzato come strumento per prevenire la povertà educativa il coinvolgimento e l'inclusione di spazi e soggetti della città. L'analisi scongiunta sui quattro progetti è svolta attraverso interviste e focus group con i project manager locali in modo da approfondire anche il ruolo dei "sistemi esperti" che a livello locale orchestrano reti di servizi e azioni di community building.

Social media technologies have the potential to be powerful knowledge sharing and community building tools for both corporate and non-profit interests. This pilot study explores the social media presence of a group of forty-six Alberta-based non-profit organizations (NPOs) in this information rich space. In this paper we look at the pattern of presence of NPOs using social media and relationships with staffing structures.Les médias sociaux ont la capacité d’être de puissants outils de partage de la connaissance et de rassemblement communautaire pour les organisations à but lucratif et sans but lucratif. Cette étude pilote explore la présence dans les médias sociaux d’un groupe de quarante-six organisations sans but lucratif (OSBL) albertaines dans cet environnement riche en information. La communication portera sur les modèles de présence des OSBL dans les médias sociaux et les liens avec les structures organisationnelles.
