A novel heterogeneous enzyme-palladium (Pd) (0) nanoparticles (PdNPs) bionanohybrid has been synthesized by an efficient, green, and straightforward methodology. A designed Geobacillus thermocatenulatus lipase (GTL) variant genetically and then chemically modified by the introduction of a tailor-made cysteine-containing complementary peptide- was used as the stabilizing and reducing agent for the in situ formation of ultra-small PdNPs nanoparticles embedded on the protein structure. This bionanohybrid was an excellent catalyst in the synthesis of trans-ethyl cinnamate by Heck reaction at 65 °C. It showed the best catalytic performance in dimethylformamide (DMF) containing 10–25% of water as a solvent but was also able to catalyze the reaction in pure DMF or with a higher amount of water as co-solvent. The recyclability and stability were excellent, maintaining more than 90% of catalytic activity after five cycles of use.

ABSTRACT We investigated the efficacy of long-circulating immunoliposomal amphotericin B (AmB) against invasive pulmonary aspergillosis in mice using three types of liposomal AmB: conventional liposomal AmB (AmBisome), a long-circulating liposomal AmB and prepared by coating the liposome surface with polyethylene glycol (PEG; PEG-L-AmB), long-circulating immunoliposomal AmB (34A-PEG-L-AmB). The survival rates for mice with invasive pulmonary aspergillosis treated with an intravenous dose of 2 mg of AmBisome, PEG-L-AmB, or 34A-PEG-L-AmB per kg of body weight were 16.7, 83.3, and 100%, respectively. Treatment with 34A-PEG-L-AmB produced a marked reduction in the number ofAspergillus fumigatus organisms in the lungs. Pharmacokinetic studies showed the presence of high AmB concentrations in the plasma of mice treated with PEG-L-AmB (40.8 μg/ml) and in the lungs of mice treated with 34A-PEG-L-AmB (42.3 μg/g). We conclude that 34A-PEG-L-AmB, a long-circulating immunoliposomal AmB, is a promising form of AmB against invasive pulmonary aspergillosis.

In this study, removal of Cr(Ⅵ) from synthetic groundwater by adsorption onto commercial activated carbon (CAC) made up of coconut shell is investigated in batch studies. Surface modification of CAC with sulfuric acid is also conducted to evaluate its removal performance. It is evident that CAC chemically modified with sulfuric acid (sulfuric-treated CAC) demonstrates higher Cr(Ⅵ) removal efficiency than non-treated CAC in dealing with contaminated groundwater with the pH is about 7.0, suggesting that sulfuric-treated CAC is suitable for the in-situ remediation of Cr(Ⅵ) contaminated groundwater. Adsorption of Cr(Ⅵ) is strongly affected by pH, the granular sulfuric-treated CAC exhibits the highest Cr(Ⅵ) adsorption capacity at pH 1.5 and the maximum Cr(Ⅵ) adsorption capacity of which estimated with the Langmuir model was 8.24mg/g.
