Antisera to the mouse milk factor (F), containing up to 0.5 mg. of antibody nitrogen per ml. are readily obtainable in rabbits, especially when adjuvants are added to the antigen. Quantitative data on the anti-F content of the sera are given, also on the total nitrogen precipitated by the non-casein fraction of C57 mouse milk which does not contain F. The antisera were also absorbed with casein fractions but the difficulties in the way of quantitative analysis were not overcome. Antisera to fractions of C57 mouse milk were also obtained and the reactions of F and the C57 proteins with these sera were studied. The results, as far as they go, are in accord with the earlier belief that the milk factor possesses an immunological specificity not present in normal mouse tissues.

This study deals with the way to improve students’ achievement in speaking particularly through Two Stay Two Stray Strategy. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of of the research was class X-AP SMK Swasta Harapan Danau Sijabut in Asahan Regency that consisted of 34 students. The research was conducted in two cycles consisted of three meetings in each cycle. The instruments of collecting data for quantitative data used Speaking Test and instrument for analysis of qualitative data used observation, interview and questionnaire sheet. Based on the speaking test score, students’ score kept improving in every test. In the test I the mean was 61,47, in the test II the mean was 67,41 and the test III the mean was 78,52. Based on observation sheet and questionnaire sheet, it was found that teaching learning process run well and lively. Students were active and interest in speaking. The using of Two Stay Two Stray Strategy is significantly improved students’ achievement in speaking.

Intracisternal A-particle (IAP) proviral elements are abundant and widely dispersed in the mouse genome. IAP-related transcripts have been detected in normal mouse tissues where expression is under genetic control. In this study, we sought to determine whether IAP expression in BALB/c thymus and lipopolysaccharide-stimulated B cells was due to selective or indiscriminate activation of IAP elements. cDNA libraries were prepared from each source. A total of 86 IAP cDNA clones were isolated from both libraries, and 37 of these were sequenced over a common 0.7- to 1.0-kb region of the IAP genome that included the 3' long terminal repeat (LTR). Three highly related families of elements were found to be expressed in the two cell types examined. All of the related elements had a distinctive U3 regulatory region. Thirteen individual IAP proviral elements were distinguished on the basis of sequence differences within the R region of the LTR. Hybridization of genomic DNA with element-specific oligonucleotide probes confirmed the presence of a restricted number of proviral copies in the lymphocyte-specific family of elements. Most of these copies were found to be methylated in the lymphocyte DNA, but at least seven were hypomethylated in their 5' LTRs. This study shows that activation of IAP elements in normal normal mouse lymphocytes is highly selective. Activation is probably a function of both sequence specificity and methylation status of the proviral LTR.

AbstractThe development of the electron diffractometry methods jointly the analytical methods of electrostatic potential (ESP) reconstruction and its topological analysis allowd one to proceed to the quality new level of electron diffraction structure analysis (EDSA): investigation inner crystalline electrostatic field, which knowledge permitts to study the relation of the atomic structure with physical properties of crystals. The review of the last achivements in this direction, obtained in the Institute of Crystallography of Russian Academy of Sciences, in which EDSA method was discovered, is done. The possibility of the EDSA method to solve precise problems of quantitative analysis of the electrostatic potential is shown on the examples of investigations of the ESP distributions and chemical bonding in crystals with NaCl-type structure and covalent crystal Ge. It is also shown that quantitative data on the potential distribution considerably enlarge conceptions on the nature of interatomic and inetrmolecular interactions in crystals.

The effect of the carcinogen 3-methylcholanthrene (MCA) on protein accumulation in mouse tissues was examined. Administration of the hydrocarbon (250 mg/kg, intraperitoneally) to high-responder C57BL/6 (B6) mice resulted in the induction of five proteins in liver tissue. Quantitative analysis revealed that maximal induction of all five proteins occurred 2 days after MCA administration, with liver protein concentrations returning close to control values by 7 days after the treatment. No consistent effects on the concentrations of other liver proteins were seen. Cell-fractionation studies demonstrate that these proteins appear to be non-microsomal in origin. The induction of the five proteins was tissue-specific, since MCA had no effect on protein accumulation in the B6-mouse kidney, spleen or heart. In addition, their induction appeared to be correlated with the Ah locus, since MCA administration had no effect on the concentrations of the five proteins in the liver of the low-responder DBA/2 (D2) mouse strain. Comparing the extent and time course of this induction with that of previously characterized MCA-induced enzymes, we suggest that these five proteins may represent a new, previously unidentified, set of MCA-induced proteins.
