Design and FPGA implementation of a memristor-based multi-scroll hyperchaotic system

Abstract In this paper, a novel memristor-based multi-scroll hyperchaotic system is proposed. Based on a voltage-controlled memristor and a modulating sine nonlinear function, a novel method is proposed to generate the multi-scroll hyperchaotic attractors. First, a multi-scroll chaotic system is constructed from a three-dimensional chaotic system by designing a modulating sine nonlinear function. Then, a voltage-controlled memristor is introduced into the above-designed multi-scroll chaotic system. Thus, a memristor-based multi-scroll hyperchaotic system is generated, and this hyperchaotic system can produce various coexisting hyperchaotic attractors with different topological structures. Moreover, different number of scrolls and different topological attractors can be obtained by varying the initial conditions of this system without changing the system parameters. The Lyapunov exponents, bifurcation diagrams and basins of attraction are given to analyze the dynamical characteristics of the multi-scroll hyperchaotic system. Besides, the FPGA-based digital implementation of the memristor-based multi-scroll hyperchaotic system is carried out. The experimental results of the FPGA-based digital circuit are displayed on the oscilloscope.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop new four-dimensional (4D) hyperchaotic system by adding another state variable and linear controller to three-dimensional T chaotic dynamical systems. Its dynamical analyses, circuit experiment, control and synchronization applications are presented. Design/methodology/approach A new 4D hyperchaotic attractor is achieved through a simulation, circuit experiment and mathematical analysis by obtaining the Lyapunov exponent spectrum, equilibrium, bifurcation, Poincaré maps and power spectrum. Moreover, hardware experimental measurements are performed and obtained results well validate the numerical simulations. Also, the passive control method is presented to make the new 4D hyperchaotic system stable at the zero equilibrium and synchronize the two identical new 4D hyperchaotic system with different initial conditions. Findings The passive controllers can stabilize the new 4D chaotic system around equilibrium point and provide the synchronization of new 4D chaotic systems with different initial conditions. The findings from Matlab simulations, circuit design simulations in computer and physical circuit experiment are consistent with each other in terms of comparison. Originality/value The 4D hyperchaotic system is presented, and dynamical analysis and numerical simulation of the new hyperchaotic system were firstly carried out. The circuit of new 4D hyperchaotic system is realized, and control and synchronization applications are performed.

AbstractThis paper investigates the nonlinear dynamics of a flexible tyre coupling via computer modelling and simulation. The research mainly focused on identifying basins of attraction of coexisting solutions of the formulated phenomenological coupling model. On the basis of the derived mathematical model, and by assuming ranges of variability of the control parameters, the areas in which chaotic clutch movement takes place are determined. To identify multiple solutions, a new diagram of solutions (DS) was used, illustrating the number of coexisting solutions and their periodicity. The DS diagram was drawn based on the fixed points of the Poincaré section. To verify the proposed method of identifying periodic solutions, the graphic image of the DS was compared to the three-dimensional distribution of the largest Lyapunov exponent and the bifurcation diagram. For selected values of the control parameter ω, coexisting periodic solutions were identified, and basins of attraction were plotted. Basins of attraction were determined in relation to examples of coexistence of periodic solutions and transient chaos. Areas of initial conditions that correspond to the phenomenon of unstable chaos are mixed with the conditions of a stable periodic solution, to which the transient chaos is attracted. In the graphic images of the basins of attraction, the areas corresponding to the transient and periodic chaos are blurred.

In this paper, a novel three-dimensional autonomous chaotic system with six terms and two quadratic nonlinearities is presented. Some basic dynamical properties of the new chaotic system are analyzed by means of equilibrium points, eigenvalue structures, Lyapunov exponent and Lyapunov dimension. In order to overcome the external conditions affected by the analog circuit’s chaotic system, digital implementation of the new chaotic system based on LabVIEW is also proposed. The results show that the experimental results by LabVIEW are consistent with the theoretical simulation results by Matlab, and the method is an effective digital implementation method.

By adding only one smooth flux-controlled memristor into a three-dimensional (3D) pseudo four-wing chaotic system, a new real four-wing hyperchaotic system is constructed in this paper. It is interesting to see that this new memristive chaotic system can generate a four-wing hyperchaotic attractor with a line of equilibria. Moreover, it can generate two-, three- and four-wing chaotic attractors with the variation of a single parameter which denotes the strength of the memristor. At the same time, various coexisting multiple attractors (e.g. three-wing attractors, four-wing attractors and attractors with state transition under the same system parameters) are observed in this system, which means that extreme multistability arises. The complex dynamical behaviors of the proposed system are analyzed by Lyapunov exponents (LEs), phase portraits, Poincaré maps, and time series. An electronic circuit is finally designed to implement the hyperchaotic memristive system.

Modified function projective lag synchronization (MFPLS) of uncertain hyperchaotic dynamical systems with the same or different dimensions and structures is studied. Based on Lyapunov stability theory, a general theorem for controller designing, parameter update rule designing, and control gain strength adapt law designing is introduced by using adaptive control method. Furthermore, the scheme is applied to four typical examples: MFPLS between two five-dimensional hyperchaotic systems with the same structures, MFPLS between two four-dimensional hyperchaotic systems with different structures, MFPLS between a four-dimensional hyperchaotic system and a three-dimensional chaotic system and MFPLS between a novel three-dimensional chaotic system, and a five-dimensional hyperchaotic system. And the system parameters are all uncertain. Corresponding numerical simulations are performed to verify and illustrate the analytical results.


Significant research efforts have been invested in recent years to export new concepts for secure cryptographic methods. Many mathematicians are attracted by Chaos functions as it has sensitive nature toward its initial conditions and their colossal suitability to problems in daily life. Inspired by new researches, a new chaotic cryptography algorithm is proposed in this paper. The key feature of this approach is that instantaneous key is generated at host independently that is used to determine the type of operations on each pixel. The information available in images is 24 bit RGB these value are modified mathematically using eight reversible operations. Also during encryption, the control parameter of the chaotic system is updated timely.

Introduction: In this work, the projective synchronization of two identical three dimensional chaotic system with quadratic and quartic non linearities was considered as well as the equilibrium and stability analysis of the system. The projective synchronization with same and different scaling factor was carried out for this category of system to show its feasibility in order to establish that no matter the type and number of nonlinearities, projective synchronization can be achieved. Numerical simulations was done to verify the above. In all kinds of chaos synchronization, projective synchronization (PS), characterized by a scaling factor that two systems synchronize proportionally, is one of the most interesting problems. It was first reported by Mainieri et al [1] , where it was stated that the two identical systems (master and slave) could be synchronized up to a scaling factor, . They further stated that the scaling factor was dependent on the chaotic evolution and initial conditions so that the ultimate state of projective synchronization was unpredictable. Aims: Is to achieve projective synchronization of two identical three Dimensional chaotic system with quadratic and quartic nonlinearities synchronizing to a scaling factor and also present the equilibrium and stability analysis of the system. This is to establish that projective synchronization can be achieved for varied systems with varied nonlinearities. Materials and Methods: We employed the adaptive synchronization technique to achieve projective synchronization of the system (master and slave) with different scaling factors, and the fourth order RungeKutta algorithm is used for numerical solutions. Results: In this work, the projective synchronization of two identical three dimensional systems with quadratic and quartic nonlinearities was achieved with the same and different scaling factor, . The equilibrium and stability analysis of the system was also presented. Numerical simulations was done to verify the above. Conclusion: The investigated projective synchronization behaviour of two identical three-dimensional system with two nonlinearities (quadratic and quartic) was achieved for cases where the scaling factor is the same and when different. This shows that projective synchronization can be achieved for systems with varying nonlinearities even when the scaling factor is different and this suggests its use in communication using chaotic wave forms as carriers, perhaps with a view to securing communication.

Memristor, as a typical nonlinear element, is able to produce chaotic signals in chaotic systems easily. Chaotic systems have potential applications in secure communications, information encryption, and other fields. Therefore, it is of importance to generate abundant dynamic behaviors in a single chaotic system. In this paper, a novel memristor-based chaotic system without equilibrium points is proposed. One of the essential features is the absence of symmetry in this system, which increases the complexity of the new system. Then, the nonlinear dynamic behaviors of the system are analyzed in terms of chaos diagrams, bifurcation diagrams, Poincaré maps, Lyapunov exponent spectra, the sum of Lyapunov exponents, phase portraits, 0–1 test, recurrence analysis and instantaneous phase. The results of the sum of Lyapunov exponents show that the given system is a quasi-Hamiltonian system with certain initial conditions (IC) and parameters. Next, other critical phenomena, such as hidden multi-scroll attractors, abundant coexistence characteristics, are found characterized through basins of attraction and others. Especially, it reveals some rare phenomena in other systems that multiple hidden hyperchaotic attractors coexist. Finally, the circuit implementation based on Micro Control Unit (MCU) confirms theoretical analysis and the numerical simulation.

Purpose This paper aims to introduce a novel 4D hyperchaotic fractional-order system which can produce one-to-four-wing hyperchaotic attractors. In the study of chaotic systems with variable-wing attractors, although some chaotic systems can generate one-to-four-wing attractors, none of them are hyperchaotic attractors, which is incomplete for the dynamic characteristics of chaotic systems. Design/methodology/approach A novel 4D fractional-order hyperchaotic system is proposed based on the classical three-dimensional Lü system. The complex and abundant dynamic behaviors of the fractional-order system are analyzed by phase diagrams, bifurcation diagrams and the corresponding Lyapunov exponents. In addition, SE and C0 algorithms are used to analyze the complexity of the fractional-order system. Then, the influence of order q on the system is also investigated. Finally, the circuit is implemented using physical components. Findings The most particular interest is that the system can generate one-to-four-wing hyperchaotic attractors with only one parameter variation. Then, the hardware circuit experimental results tally with the numerical simulations, which proves the validity and feasibility of the fractional-order hyperchaotic system. Besides, under different initial conditions, coexisting attractors can be obtained by changing the parameter d or the order q. Then, the complexity analysis of the system shows that the fractional-order chaotic system has higher complexity than the corresponding integer-order chaotic system. Originality/value The circuit structure of the fractional-order hyperchaotic system is simple and easy to implement, and one-to-four-wing hyperchaotic attractors can be observed in the circuit. To the best of the knowledge, this unique phenomenon has not been reported in any literature. It is of great reference value to analysis and circuit realization of fractional-order chaotic systems.
