With reducing diamond grain size to nano-grade, the increase of grain boundaries and non-diamond phase will result in the change of the optical properties of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) diamond films. In this paper, the structure, morphology and optical properties of nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) films, deposited by hot-filament chemical vapor deposition (HFCVD) method under different carbon concentration, are investigated by SEM, Raman scattering spectroscopy, as well as optical transmission spectra and spectroscopic ellipsometry. With increasing the carbon concentration during the film deposition, the diamond grain size is reduced and thus a smooth diamond film can be obtained. According to the data on the absorption coefficient in the wavelength range from 200 to 1100 nm, the optical gap of the NCD films decreases from 4.3 eV to 3.2 eV with increasing the carbon concentration from 2.0% to 3.0%. From the fitting results on the spectroscopic ellipsometric data with a four-layer model in the photon energy range of 0.75–1.5 eV, we can find the diamond film has a lower refractive index (n) and a higher extinction coefficient (k) when the carbon concentration increases.

Grinding technology is used in this study to overcome the hard machining of ceramic with hard and brittle characteristics. The grinding machine with diamond grain size 25 and 5 , spindles speed 1720 rpm and 3450 rpm are applied. Combining the unintentional roll clamp and the grinding machine, ceramic rods can be ground to the desired size.In the research, surface profilometer is applied to measure the rod surface roughness of processing results under different conditions. The results show that the grinding wheel with finer particle, the roughness of the ground ceramic rod will be better. While the rotation speed of grinding wheel is increased, the surface roughness will have the same trend.

High quality optical grade thick diamond film wafers with different thickness are prepared by high power DC arc plasma jet CVD (DCPJ CVD) method using a CH4/Ar/H2 gas mixture. Three different powers, 13.65, 15.40 and 17.94kW, were employed during the investigation. The aim was to investigate the effect of these powers on the deposition of thick diamond film. The controlled system was discussed together. The results show that the average diamond grain size and growth rate increase with input plasma power, but a further increase in input power, diamond thick-film defects and amorphous carbon content increased.
