The present study investigates a film actuator made with dielectric cellulose acetate films separated by narrow spacers as a means of electrostatic actuation for potential haptic application. Fabrication process for the actuator is explained along with experiments conducted over a wide frequency range of actuation frequency. A valid finite element simulation of the actuator is made on the quarter section of the actuator by using full 3D finite elements. Vibration characteristics such as fundamental natural frequency, mode shape and output velocity in the frequency range for haptic feeling generation are obtained from the finite element analysis and compared with the experimental results. Experimental results demonstrate that the finite element model is practical and effective enough in predicting the vibration characteristics of the actuator for haptic application. The film actuator shows many promising properties like high transparency, wide range of actuation frequency and high vibration velocity for instance.

Reactor coolant pump (RCP) is designed for the heat transfer of heat which is generated from reactor vessel to steam generators by circulating the coolant water. RCP is the only rotating equipment in the nuclear steam supply system (NSSS). Therefore, the problem of vibration has arisen caused by the hydraulic forces of the working fluid. These forces can drastically alter the critical speeds and stability characteristics and can act as significant destabilizing forces. So, vibration evaluation of RCP has been considered as a very important issue [1]. Among them, unbalance response caused by weight of unbalancing of rotating shaft could have serious effects on the entire rotor system. Thus, precise unbalance response spectrum analyses are required. In general, in order to evaluate the unbalance response characteristics for centrifugal pump, finite element analysis was performed according to the ISO 1940-1 standard. However, finite element analysis according to the ISO 1940-1 standard does not considering fluid flow effect. So, finite element analysis result and experimental results may be some differences. Vibration characteristics of RCP has affected by fluid flow effect induced from working fluid. Therefore, in order to understand vibration characteristics for the RCP shaft assembly considered in actual operating condition, rotor dynamic analysis should be performed considering the fluid flow effect. In this research, owing to accurately evaluate the vibration characteristics for the RCP considering hydro forces due to the fluid flow, we measured the bearing force and moment take into account the fluid-induced force. And then response spectrum analysis of RCP shaft assembly was performed considering fluid induced bearing radial forces which are measured values. Lastly, evaluate the vibration characteristics considering effect of fluid flow according to the number of revolution.

Present work deals with the design and analysis vibration characteristics for transport utility vehicle. The transport utility vehicle is designed using automotive industry standards. The dynamic behaviour of vehicle depends on the selection of overall dimensions, wheel base, track width, overall height and width that are decided using central motor vehicle rules. The selected dimensions for vertical and horizontal pillar members of the transport bus are modified to enhance the strength, stiffness and stability of the superstructure during travel. This increased stability enhances the ride comfort and passenger safety. Analysing the effect of utilizing manual meshing in complex areas of a transport utility vehicle for vibration analysis and passenger ride comfort has also been carried out. Modal analysis to evaluate the dynamic behaviour of transport utility vehicle model is also carried. Further with the use of finite element analysis deflection vehicle structure is evaluated. The outcomes from the analysis are compared with the behaviour of chassis mounted platform in dynamic conditions and are found in close correlation. The vehicle structure behaves as a single entity in dynamic situations, so surface model is prepared. Element selection for the finite element analysis is carried by considering plane stress condition. Two-dimensional quadrilateral shell elements are extensively used for meshing of the computer model of the vehicle structure. Complex areas in the optimised vehicle structure are meshed using relevant combination of quads and trias. The values of vector sum displacement and frequencies are found to be in good agreement with the experimental ones.

The main objective of this paper is to investigate the suitability of Soft Magnetic Composite (SMC) material SOMOLOY1000 for a Switched Reluctance Generator (SRG) through electromagnetic, thermal and vibration characteristics employing extensive Finite Element Analysis. The fabrication aspects of Soft Magnetic Composite Switched Reluctance Generator (SMC-SRG) using preform material blanks utilizing indigenous machining process have been delineated. The static and transient electromagnetic characteristics have been obtained through the electromagnetic finite element analysis software MagNet6.22.1 while the thermal and vibration aspects have been studied through coupled field Finite Element Analysis employing the multi physics software ANSYS10 while the Impulse hammers excitation - free vibration test using RT Pro Photon data acquisition system facilitated the experimental determination of vibration characteristics. The study concludes that the advantages of less weight , low torque ripple, low eddy current losses, reduction in vibration level of stator structure coupled with the ability to maintain precise mechanical dimensional tolerance may present SMC-SRG a viable candidate in standalone wind energy conversion systems meant for rural and remote area electrification scheme.

A large flexible vibration isolation structure is presented in this thesis, and experimental modal test based on the finite element analysis is carried out in order to find out the vibration characteristics of it. Results show that the natural frequencies and mode shapes calculated by finite element method basically conform to those measured from experimental modal test. Some suggestion to vibration active control in further research is also provided.
