Abstract In order to study the effect of transmission distance on the performance of optical code division multiplexing passive optical network systems based on fiber Bragg Grating (FBG), a two-dimensional OCDMA-PON system based on cascaded FBGs is designed and constructed by using the VPI optical communication software. The spectrum, waveform and eye diagram of the output signal are analyzed by setting different fiber lengths in the system. The experimental results show that different fiber lengths have different effects on the system. Within a certain transmission distance, the longer the fiber length, the smaller the error generated by the output signal and the better the signal quality; beyond this certain distance, the quality of the output signal deteriorates sharply and the error generated becomes larger.

This paper presents the background of PON (Passive Optical Network), introduces the powerful communication design and simulating software which named Optisystem, show the PON(Passive Optical Network) theory and structure, designs the PON fiber link which has 1310nm uplink wavelength and 1490nm downlink wavelength and then analyses the models performance. In the software, we set up a rate of 1Gbps model of PON by using the component in the Optisystem. Through calculating the model, the document gets the spectrum figure of the simulate fiber link, and analyses the parameter, such as spectrum character, Q factor, eye diagram and BER, the result verified the validity and practicable of the models design, makes the result that the initial character fiber link cant meet the demand of optical communication, so changing the transmission distance to 10 km , transmitter power to-1dBm, meeting and obtaining the basic requirements of the system performance, after that the paper comparing the coding between none return to zero (NRZ) and return to zero (RZ) encoded mode, the eye diagram analyzer component show that NRZ code is better than RZ code, in the end of the paper there is the conclusion.

AbstractNowadays, bandwidth demand is enormously increasing, that causes the existing passive optical network (PON) to become the future optical access network. In this paper, next generation passive optical network 2 (NG-PON2) based, optical time division multiplexing passive optical network (OTDM-PON), wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON) and time & wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (TWDM-PON) systems with 20 Gbps (8 × 2.5 Gbps) downstream and 20 Gbps (8 × 2.5 Gbps) upstream capacity for eight optical network units has been proposed. The performance has been compared by varying the input power (−6 to 27 dBm) and transmission distance (10–130 km) in terms of Q-factor and optical received power in the presence of fiber noise and non-linearities. It has been observed that TWDM-PON outperforms OTDM-PON and WDM-PON for high input power and data rate (20/20 Gbps). Also, TWDM-PON shows its superiority for long-reach transmission up to 130 km, which is a cost-effective solution for future NG-PON2 applications.

Passive optical network (PON) technologies have received increasing attention as demand for fibre access networks has grown. Enhancing fibre access network reliability provides lower operational costs, and improves customer satisfaction. This paper discusses PON survivability including protection schemes for the fiber link and the Optical Line Terminal (OLT), the exciting monitoring techniques of the fiber link, and the effect of reducing the restoration time on the network availability. The main contribution of this study is to provide two protection schemes namely OLT-only-protected and OLT-and-ring protected. The proposed schemes are designed to handle instances of single failure affecting all customers in the network. This work considers three key performance metrics- Failure Impact Robustness (FIR), cost, and availability. The objective of the proposed protection architectures is to guarantee high quality of service at low costs by protecting critical network elements such as OLT and fiber ring. The proposed architectures have been compared with other well-known protection schemes. The results postulate that OLT-and-ring protected approach has 99.993% availability with a 0.09% increase in cost compared to the ring-only protection architecture.
