AbstractThis new checklist is an update of helminths of freshwater fish from Turkey. The last publication of a checklist of helminth parasites of freshwater fish in Turkey was over 11 years ago (Öktener, 2003), and there have been a number of new records. This update includes additional records and allows for the correction of errors and omissions that were present in the preceding version. The revision literature indicated the occurrence of 123 parasite species which included 60 monogeneans, 20 digeneans, 20 cestodes, 11 nematodes, seven acanthocephalans, five annelids from 71 different wild fish (64 native, four transitional, three introduced fish) species from freshwater in Turkey. Parasites not identified to species level are listed separately, and not included in the resulting comments, because of reporting different host species. Cyprinidae, with 50 species, is the dominant family among the examined fish with regard to species diversity

Pumpkinseed (Lepomis gibbosus L. 1758) represents an allochthonous (introduced) fish species in freshwater ecosystems of Europe. It has shown good adaptation to existing ecological conditions in the back and low flow rate waters. The analysis of some ecological characteristics of the samples, taken from the reservoir Strezevo in R. Macedonia, points to extremely good growth rate in this ecosystem. Despite markedly expressed fluctuations in the number of its population, pumpkinseed has occupied a corresponding ecological niche in the littoral part of habitat. However, due to a wide trophic spectrum and the possible competition for space and places for reproduction, pumpkinseed has become overabundant, thereby deteriorating the ichthyofauna and state in reservoir Strezevo.

Invasive introduced fish species are well known for their deleterious impacts on aquatic biodiversity and environment. This study provides the first report on the occurrence of introduced Amazon sailfin catfish, Pterygoplichthys pardalis from the Gombak basin, Selangor, Malaysia, where the suckermouth catfish, Hypostomus plecostomus and vermiculated sailfin catfish, Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus had been previously reported. Besides, selected morphometric and meristic measurements between P. pardalis and P. disjunctivus from the Pusu River, Gombak basin were compared. Moreover, we also described two body patterns of the P. pardalis collected from the river. The body pattern which does not fit entirely with the known characteristics of P. pardalis or P. disjunctivus is suspected to be a result of hybridization between both species, but deeper study should be conducted to confirm this claim.
