Abstract The aim of this research was to evaluate the performance of yield and yield components of soybean genotypes, as well as the relationship pattern among characters that affect the seed yield. The research material consists of 145 F5 lines and five check cultivars, which were evaluated for their yield and yield components in Malang and Probolinggo, using a randomized block design with two replicates. The combined analysis of variance for yield and yield component showed a significant interaction effect between location and genotype for the number of branches, the number of empty pods, 100 seed weight, and seed yield. The performance of yield and yield components of soybean genotypes tested in Malang showed earlier maturity, taller plants, larger seed size, and higher seed yields when compared to research conducted in Probolinggo. In the selection for the best genotypes, ten genotypes were chosen for their large seed size criteria, while two genotypes were chosen for their relatively medium maturity (81 days) in the location of Malang. In Probolinggo, of the ten genotypes, three genotypes with medium maturity, and three genotypes with medium seed size. The selected genotypes will proceed to the stage of the advanced yield trial. The association study revealed that soybean yield has a positive correlation with plant height, number of nodes, number of branches, number of filled pods, days to flowering, and days to maturity. Those yield components could be used as selection criteria in the breeding program to obtain high-yielding soybean cultivars.

Abstract Soybean development in dry land during the rainy season not only contributes to soybean production but also has the potential to be a source of seeds. The research aimed to identify the yield and yield component performance of soybean promising line at upland in the rainy season. A total of fourteen soybean promising lines and two check cultivars were evaluated for their yield and yield components in Blitar and Malang. The field experiments were conducted in each location during the rainy season 2021 using a randomized block design with four replicates. A significant GEI was found on the plant height, number of branches/plant, number of nodes/plant, number of filled pods/plant, and 100 seed weight. The Blitar location indicated resulting in the optimum yield and yield components of the tested promising lines. The average yield in Blitar was 2.81 t/ha (an average of 2.07 – 3.60 t/ha) and in Malang was 2.16 t/ha (an average of 1.52 – 3.18 t/ha). The number of branches and number of nodes has significant roles in determining the seed yield in soybean. Two genotypes with consistently high yield in Blitar and Malang are recommended to be evaluated in further advanced yield trials in different environments.

Seed yield in soybean is associated with other yield components. The objective of the study was to investigate the pattern of relationship between seed yield and yield components in soybean. Agronomic characters and seed yield of 147 soybean homozygous lines (HL) and 3 check cultivars (Dega 1, Detap 1, and Anjasmoro) were evaluated in Banyuwangi (East Java, Indonesia) from April to July 2018. The field experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design with 2 replications. After threshing, the HLs were grouped into large seed size (> 14.00 g/100 seeds) and medium seed size (10 - 14 g/100 seeds). The causation and inter-relationship between yield components and seed yield were quantified using path analysis. Based on the seed size, a total of 150 HLs was grouped into 97 lines and 53 lines of large and medium seed size, respectively. The correlation analysis showed a similar pattern between groups of large and medium seed size. The seed yield in both groups was highly determined by the characters of the number of filled pods, number of nodes, number of branches, plant height, and wet biomass. The results of path analysis revealed that plant age, particularly the length of the generative phase, was an important factor affecting seed yield in large seed soybean lines. The length of the generative phase determining the soybean yield in this study can be suggested to be used as selection criteria to obtain high yielding and large seed size variety. HIGHLIGHTS The investigation on the pattern of relationship between seed yield and yield components in soybean The path analysis to quantify the causation and inter-relationship between yield components and seed yield  The soybean seed yield was highly determined by the characters of the number of filled pods, number of nodes, number of branches, plant height, and wet biomass The length of the generative phase could be used as selection criteria to obtain high yielding and large seed size soybean variety

An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, during November 2008 to March 2009 to examine the effects of mimosa (Mimosa invisa) compost and phosphorus on the yield and yield components of lentil variety BARI Masur6. Two factors were: a) Mimosa invisa compost and b) phosphorus fertilizer. Mimosa invisa compost were used in four rates- 1 (M1), 5 (M2), 10 (M3) and 15 (M4) t ha-1. Five rates of phosphorus fertilizer were: ‘no’ phosphorus (P0), 25% RDP (P1), 50% RDP (P2), 75% RDP (P3) and 100% recommended dose phosphorus (TSP @ 85 kg ha-1) (P4). The experiment was laid out in a factorial randomized complete block design with three replications. Mimosa invisa compost had significant effect on the crop characters except number of branches plant-1. The highest seed yield (1435.33 kg ha-1) was observed in M2 treatment (5 t ha-1) and the lowest seed yield (1220 kg ha-1) was observed in M4 treatment (15 t ha-1). Phosphorus had a significant effect on all the plant characters. The highest seed yield (1464.17 kg ha-1) was observed in P4 treatment (100% RDP) and the lowest was observed in P0 treatment. The interaction effect of Mimosa invisa compost and phosphorus on the yield of lentil was significant. The highest seed yield was observed (1630 kg ha-1) in M2×P4 treatment and the lowest was in M3×P0 treatment (1000 kg ha-1). Combining ability and heterosis were calculated for fourteen lines of linseed in a line × tester mating design using twelve lines and two diverse testers in two different environments. The hybrids and parental lines were raised in a completely randomized block design with three replications to investigate seed and fibre yield and their component traits. Genetic variation was significant for most of the traits over environments. Combining ability studies revealed that the lines KL-221 and LCK-9826 were good general combiners for seed yield and most of its components, whereas LMH-62 and LC-2323 were good general combiners for yield components only. Moreover, KL-221 was also a good general combiner for fibre yield. Similarly, B-509 and Ariane were good general combiners for fibre yield and most of its components. Among the specific cross combinations, B-509 × Flak-1 was outstanding for seed yield per plant and B-509 × KL-187 and LC-2323 × LCK-9826 for fibre yield per plant, with high SCA effects. In general, the hybrids excelled their respective parents and the standard checks for most of the characters studied. Based on the comparison of mean performance, SCA effects and the extent of heterosis, the hybrids LC-2323 × LCK-9826 and B-509 × KL-221 appeared to be the most promising for both seed and fibre yield. Other promising combinations were LC-2323 × KL-210 and B-509 × Ariane for seed and fibre yield, respectively. The superiority of LC-2323, LCK-9826, KL-221, B-509 and Ariane as good general combiners was further confirmed by the involvement of these parents in the desirable cross combinations.

Abstract In hot and arid regions, drought stress is considered as one of the main reasons for yield reduction. To study the effect of drought stress, iron and zinc spray on the yield and yield components of wheat, an experiment was carried out during the crop seasons of 2010 and 2011 on Shahid Salemi Farm in Ahwaz as a split factorial within randomized complete block design with three replications. The main plots with irrigation factor and three levels were considered: Level A) full irrigation, Level B) stopping irrigation at pollination step, and Level C) stopping irrigation at the seed filling stage. Subsidiary plots were considered with and without iron and zinc spray. Influencing the seed filling process, in interaction with iron, wich is an important leaf's chlorophyll cation, zinc increased the seed yield. The drought stress reduced the thousand kernels weight (TKW) and the number of seeds per spike increased about 24% and 8.5% more than the one of control treatment, respectively. Using iron, as compared with control treatment, causes the increase of thousand kernels weight from 45.71 to 46.83 grams and the increase of spike from 49.51 to 51.73. Zinc spray increased seed yield and thousand kernels weight. The results obtained from the present research showed that iron and zinc spray has fairly improved the effects caused by drought stress.

Abstract Background The relation between the macronutrients P and K seems to be synergistic due to the beneficial effects of the interaction between (P × K) and varies according to the variety used. Therefore, two field experiments were conducted during 2018 and 2019 summer seasons to study the effect of interaction of phosphatic fertilization at 0, 37.5 and 75 kg P2O5 ha−1 and potassic fertilization at 0 and 57.6 kg K2O ha−1 on the yield and yield components of two mungbean varieties, viz. Kawmy-l and V2010, as well as determining the relationship between the two nutrients interaction. Results The results showed that there were varietal differences in yield and yield components regardless fertilizer application. Either phosphatic or potassic fertilization significantly increased mungbean yield and yield components traits. Significant effects due to the interaction (V × P) were reported on yield component traits in both seasons. Furthermore, the triple interaction (V × P × K) indicates that synergistic effect was reported for the two varieties and was more clearer for V2010 where it needed both of P and K nutrients to out yield the greatest seed yield ha−1, while Kawmy-1 gave the greatest seed yield ha−1 without K application. Conclusion It could be concluded from this study that mungbean varieties differ in their response to the synergistic interaction effect of P and K and the combination of 75 kg P2O5 + 57.6 kg K2O is preferable for V2010 and 75 kg P2O5 alone for Kawmy-1 to produce the greatest yield.

Soybean (Glycine max (L) Merr.) planted in land space among stands of other crops especially forest trees experience shading stress due to less sunlight penetration. The objective of the study was to identify the performance and yield stability of soybean genotypes in various shading environments. Field research was conducted in 2018 on 15 soybean genotypes consisted of 12 promising soybean lines and three check varieties (Dena 1, Dena 2, and Grobogan) in 10 shading environments (cassava, maize, orange, teak, eucalyptus, oil palm, and no shading). Randomized block design and repeated four times was used in each location. Result of the study showed that the response of the genotypes to grain yield was significantly difference in each environment or location. Stability of genotypes were grouped into 3, namely 1 genotype classified as unstable and recommended for less optimal environments, 6 genotypes (5 promising lines and 1 check variety) which were classified as stable and adaptive in 10 test locations, and 8 genotypes (6 promising lines and 2 check varieties) classified as unstable in 10 test locations. Based on seed yield and yield components average, one line (Grob/Pander-395-2) had a high average seed yield (1.84 tha-1), high seeds weight per plant (14.8 g), high weight of 100 seeds (21.6 g), and stable in 10 location (indicated by non significant both regression coefficient and regression deviation). Therefore, Grob/Pander-395-2 could be recommended for being grown in shading environments across the country.

The present investigation was conducted using 28 different genotypes (seven parents and their 21 F1s) of maize under organic conditions at the Rain-fed Organic Research Farm, Narayanbag, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Bundelkhand University, Jhansi (U.P.) India, during kharif 2018 and rabi season 2018-19. In order to determine the general and specific combining ability of parents and the crosses, the growth parameters and yield components were evaluated in a 7×7 diallel fashion in maize in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications. In this study, the GCA effects suggested that parent P1, P2 and P4 were the most desirable as they possessed high GCA effect for most of the characters. Among F1 crosses, P4 x P3, P3 x P1, P5 x P3 and P7 x P5 having significant positive SCA were found to be desirable for yield and yield attributing characters. The maximum heterotic effects in desirable direction for yield attributes were showed by the cross combinations viz; P1 x P6, P2 x P7, P2 x P5, P1 x P2, P3 x P4, P5 x P7 and P3 x P5. The maximum heterosis was recorded in for Seed yield per plant P5 x P7 (39.32%) which ranged from -14.69 to 49.55.
