The Corona Virus 19 (COVID-19) disease outbreak that has occurred worldwide since March 2020 is causing a major public health crisis, daily routine disruptions, uncertainty, social isolation, economic loss, unemployment risk, etc., which affects the whole society, single individuals, and families. The widespread social isolation, quarantine, and lockdown measures adopted in the attempt to contain the infection spreading caused high levels of psychological distress, unfavorably influencing mental health by compromising emotional and cognitive functioning. The strategy for dealing with these problems is one of the greatest challenges faced worldwide. One solution that can be offered to overcome these problems is to apply a “green prescription” in which people are advised to leave the house to enjoy nature or do activities in nature because human interaction with the natural surroundings can cause a feeling of comfort. With this “green prescription”, it can be said that the health and wellness of today’s communities are highly reliant on trees, green spaces, city parks, and forests. As indoor public recreation facilities have closed to slow the spread of COVID-19, the use of outdoor recreation facilities has been a social-distancing appropriate alternative – such as hiking, biking, camping, fishing, birdwatching, and nature walks. Being in forests or parks with trees offers tremendous benefits for human physical, mental, and spiritual health. Spending time in forests, parks, or simply looking at trees helps boost immune systems, reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, improves mood and relaxation. Athletes who sustain concussions endure a variety of physical, mental, emotional, and social isolation effects as they rehabilitate. Accordingly, concussion recovery can induce grieving processes as athletes navigate the loss of athletic participation, social networks, and daily routine disruption. This research sought to gain a richer understanding of athletes’ lived experiences with concussions through grief discourse shared in online narratives. Through an analysis of athletes’ experiences shared via 58 blog posts on three concussion websites, the data reveal how athletes frame the losses that concussions bring into their lives, the subsequent feelings and expressions that result, along with how they eventually cope. The information disclosed in these online spaces can benefit parents, friends, coaches, and others to better understand concussion recovery, thereby enhancing their supportive communication and behaviors towards athletes as they rehabilitate from concussions.

ABSTRACT: Infection by Fasciola hepatica is an important cause of economic loss in cattle raised in Brazil and others countries. In slaughterhouses, the losses are mainly associated with condemnation of livers; however, it is believed that these losses can extend to diminished carcass yield and productivity throughout the life of the animals. Three slaughterhouses with a daily routine of approximately 15-20 cattle slaughters were monitored from July 2016 to November 2017. After sample collection, weighing, and liver assessment, statistical studies were conducted to determine disease prevalence and measurement of economic losses caused by fasciolosis through condemnation of the organ of choice of the parasite. Of the 210 livers assessed, 79 (37.6%) were condemned because of presence of F. hepatica, 87 (41.4%) were considered appropriate for human consumption, and 44 (20.9%) were considered inappropriate because of some other macroscopic lesions. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of fasciolosis, correlate epidemiological and clinical-pathological aspects, and estimate the economic losses caused by the disease. It is estimated that the losses in southwestern Rio Grande do Sul state could reach R$ 36,943,532.60 (37.6%; 95% CI = 30,753,525.80 - 43,526,55.65) or US$ 11,437,626.20 (37.6%; 95% CI = 9,521,215.40 - 13,475,713.80) only because of condemnation of livers.

<b><i>Introduction:</i></b> There are many differences between hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) treatments, including their impact on the psychological status of the patients. In this study, our aim was to compare the psychological statuses of HD and PD patients during the social isolation period due to the COVID-19 pandemic. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> We conducted this cross-sectional study on adult HD and PD patients when the curfew measures were in effect. We used an electronic form composed of 3 sections to collect data. In the first section, we collected data on the demographics and clinical and laboratory parameters of the patients. The second and third sections consisted of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R) questionnaires, respectively. <b><i>Results:</i></b> The HD (<i>n</i> = 116) and PD (<i>n</i> = 130) groups were similar regarding age and sex, and they had similar HADS anxiety scores. HADS depression scores were higher in PD patients (<i>p</i> = 0.052). IES-R scores were significantly higher in PD patients in comparison to HD patients (<i>p</i> = 0.001). Frequencies of abnormal HADS-anxiety (<i>p</i> = 0.035) and severe psychological impact (<i>p</i> = 0.001) were significantly higher in PD patients. <b><i>Discussion/Conclusion:</i></b> During the social isolation period due to the COVID-19 pandemic, HD patients had better mood profiles than PD patients. A more stable daily routine, an uninterrupted face-to-face contact with health-care workers, and social support among patients in the in-center dialysis environment might be the cause of the favorable mood status. PD patients might need additional psychological support during those periods.
