For the first time in Almaty full passport of apartment stock of multiapartment building was carried out. The structure of the housing stock was revealed with the allocation of groups of buildings according to structural solutions and assessment of their seismic resistance. Based on the results of certification, quantitative estimates of failure probability values for different types of buildings were obtained. Formulas for estimation of quantitative value of seismic risk are obtained. The number of deaths in the estimated zem-shakes was estimated. The results of the assessments will be used for practical recommendations to reduce risk and expected losses in possible earthquakes.

AbstractFabric reinforced cementitious matrix (FRCM) composites, also known as textile reinforced mortars (TRM), an inorganic matrix constituting fibre fabrics and cement-based mortar, are becoming a widely used composite material in Europe for upgrading the seismic resistance of existing reinforced concrete (RC) frame buildings. One way of providing seismic resistance upgrading is through the application of the proposed FRCM system on existing masonry infill walls to increase their stiffness and integrity. To examine the effectiveness of this application, the bond characteristics achieved between (a) the matrix and the masonry substrate and (b) the fabric and the matrix need to be determined. A series of experiments including 23 material performance tests, 15 direct tensile tests of dry fabric and composites, and 30 shear bond tests between the matrix and brick masonry, were carried out to investigate the fabric-to-matrix and matrix-to-substrate bond behaviour. In addition, different arrangements of extruded polystyrene (XPS) plates were applied to the FRCM to test the shear bond capacity of this insulation system when used on a large-scale wall.

When high-rise buildings are shaken due to external forces, the facilities of the building can be damaged. A Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) can resolve this issue, but the seismic resistance of TMD is exhausted due to the detuning effect. The Impulsive Semi-Active Mass Damper (ISAMD) is proposed with fast coupling and decoupling at the active joint between the mass and structure to overcome the detuning effect. The seismic proof effects of a high-rise building with TMD and ISAMD were compared. The numerical analysis results indicate that: (1) the reduction ratio of the maximum roof displacement response and the mean square root of the displacement reduction ratio of the building with the ISAMD were higher than 30% and 60%, respectively; (2) the sensitivity of the efficiency index to the frequency ratio of the ISAMD was very low, and detuning did not occur in the building with the ISAMD; (3) to achieve stable seismic resistance of the ISAMD, its frequency ratio should be between 2 and 4; (4) the amount of displacement of the control mass block of the ISAMD can be reduced by enhancing the stiffness of the auxiliary spring of the ISAMD; and (5) the proposed ISAMD has a stable control effect, regardless of the earthquake distance.

Идеи В.Г. Ideas of V.G. Shuchov were revolutionary for his times. Decades passed but these ideas haven’t lost their relevence and found applications in many countries all over the world, including Japan. Japanese were the first ones who acknowledged the perspectivity of great russian engineer’s inventions and started using retinas and supporting structures based on them in architecture. Main reasons of using Shuchov’s retinas in contemporary architecture are increase of seismic resistance in structures and possibility to gain new, more complicated forms of overlays. In contemporary architecture of Japan there are numerous examples, that reveal the influence on it created by V.G. Shuchov and development of russian engineer’s ideas by local masters.
