Layered double hydroxide containing Ni3+ (Mg/AlNi-LDH) was successfully synthesized by co-precipitation in an oxidizing media. The resulted product was characterized using X-ray diffraction, wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. The activity of Mg/AlNi-LDH in the process of photodegradation of Congo red dye using UV light irradiation was evaluated. The initial rate of photodegradation of the dye in the presence of LDH is 1.6 times higher than that of UV irradiated solution. The kinetic data obtained for photodegradation process can be adequately described by pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The presence of Mg/AlNi – LDH leads to increased photodegradation yield compared to destruction only by UV irradiation.

This In this study, the Ca-Al layered double hydroxide was used as a potential adsorbent for the removal of Congo red from aqueous solutions. The effects of Initial concentration and contact time on the adsorption properties of Congo red by Ca-Al LDHs were studied. The removal rate of Conge red reached to 59.416 mg/g under room temperature with 0.2g of adsorbent, initial concentration of 50 ppm, adsorption time of 210 min, shaking speed of 90r/min. The experimental equilibrium data for the removal of Congo red were evaluated by various isotherm models. The pseudo-second-order kinetic models were found to fit the adsorption kinetics, and the equilibrium data were appropriately fitted to Langmuir and Freundlich model adsorption isotherm.

In this study, chitosan was extracted from shrimp shells by demineralization and deproteination processes. The extracted chitosan was used to modify the layered double hydroxide and used as an adsorbent for the removal of congo red from aqueous solutions. Composites were successfully synthesized using M2+/Al (M2+ = Zn, Mg, Ni) and chitosan (CH) and the samples obtained were characterized using XRD and FTIR. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern appeared at the layered double hydroxide peak of 2? = 11.63°; 23.00°; 35.16°; and 61.59° and chitosan at 2? = 7.93° and 19.35. The composite appearing in the layered double hydroxide and chitosan indicated that the composite material has been successfully synthesized. The XRD diffraction patterns of Zn/Al-CH, Ni/Al-CH, and Mg/Al-CH showed low crystallinity. The Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectra verifying absorption spectrum showed the presence of two bands at 3448 cm-1, 1382cm-1 characteristic to both chitosan and LDH. Adsorption of Congo Red (CR) followed the pseudo-second-order and Langmuir isotherm models. The adsorption capacities of Zn/Al-CH, Ni/Al-CH, and Mg/Al-CH were 181.818 mg/g, 227.273 mg/g, and 344.828 mg/g, respectively. The layered double hydroxide-chitosan composite adsorption was endothermically characterized by positive enthalpy and entropy values. On the other hand, the adsorption spontaneously was characterized by a negative Gibbs free energy value. The composites in this study were formed from LDH modified from chitosan extracted from shrimp shells to form Zn/Al-CH, Ni/Al-CH, and Mg/Al-CH. The results of the characterization showed a number of characteristics that resembled the constituent materials in the form of LDH and chitosan. After being applied as an adsorbent to absorb Congo red dye, it then showed the most effective results using Mg/Al-CH adsorbent with an adsorption capacity of 344.828 mg/g.

Abstract The survey of the existing literature revealed that the binding of Molybdenum, Vanadium, Zinc, Cadmium, Copper, Nickel and Cobalt with the protein is well known but no binding studies of Congo red molecules with collagen are reported. With a view to extend the existed knowledge of ecological nature of dye-protein system, it was thought of interest to investigate of properties of dye-protein mixture. The binding of Congo red dye has been studied with collagen protein using polarographic and equilibrium dialysis techniques. The intrinsic association constants and the number of binding sites have been calculated from Scatchard plots. The effect of pH on these constants was studied at pH 5.57, 7.50, 9.50 by polarographic technique and it was found that these values were decreased with increasing pH. The effect of pH was found to be similar by equilibrium dialysis technique. The values of different thermodynamic parameters have been reported. The free energies of aggregation, ΔG associated with the binding interaction of the dyes and protein were calculated. The negative values of the ΔG confirm the feasibility of interaction between the dye and protein.

Cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) were prepared by cellulase in conjunction with mechanical disintegration from the bleached softwood kraft pulp and labelled by Congo red dye. The labelled CNF were used to investigate the retention and distribution of CNF in paper handsheets. The retention of the labelled CNF was obtained by measuring the absorbance of white water using an ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer. The results showed that this method for measuring the retention was rapid, feasible, and sensitive, owing to the high correlation coefficient R2 (0.9993) of the standard curve. The labelled CNF showed even distribution in paper handsheets. The colorimetric values of paper handsheets were explored with a residual ink analyzer.
