A novel actinobacterial strain (TRM 68085T) was isolated from soil of Populus euphratica wetland. A polyphasic approach was used to study the taxonomy of TRM 68085T and the results showed a range of phylogenetic and chemotaxonomic properties consistent with those of the genus Streptomyces . Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain TRM 68085T showed the highest similarity value to Streptomyces capitiformicae 1H-SSA4T (98.6 %), and phylogenetically clustered with Streptomyces kanasensis ZX01T(97.5 %) and Streptomyces ipomoeae NBRC 13050T (97.4 %). The genomic DNA G+C content of strain TRM 68085T based on the genome sequence was 71.4 mol%. The levels of DNA–DNA relatedness between the genome of the isolate and its nearest phylogenetic neighbours, S. capitiformicae 1H-SSA4T, S. kanasensis ZX01T and S. ipomoeae NBRC 13050T, were 19.2±0.4, 21.8±0.5 and 19.3±0.6 %, respectively. Chemotaxonomic data revealed that strain TRM 68085T possessed MK-9(H6) and MK-9(H8) as the predominant menaquinones. ll-Diaminopimelic acid and a small amount of meso-diaminopimelic acid were the diagnostic diamino acids. Ribose, xylose, glucose and galactose were the whole-cell sugars. The major cellular fatty acids were C16 : 0 (25.4 %) and iso-C16 : 0 (18.3 %). On the basis of these genotypic and phenotypic data, it is concluded that strain TRM 68085T represents a novel species of the genus Streptomyces , for which the name Streptomyces arboris sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is TRM 68085T (=CCTCC AA2019031T=LMG 31492T).

Two Gram-stain-positive, aerobic, rod-shaped, pink and light pink colony-forming bacteria, designated as Hz2T and MDT2-14T, respectively, were isolated from glacier cryoconite samples. Comparisons based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strains Hz2T and MDT2-14T take Arthrobacter bussei KR32T and Arthrobacter zhaoguopingii J391T as their closest neighbours, respectively. The average nucleotide identity values between the two novel strains and their closest relatives were 83.56 and 93.06 %, respectively. The two strains contain MK-9(H2) as their predominant menaquinone. The polar lipids of both strains were phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol and an unidentified glycolipid. The major fatty acids of strain Hz2T were anteiso-C15 : 0, summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1  ω7c and/or C16 : 1  ω6c) and iso-C15 : 0, while the major fatty acids of strain MDT2-14T were anteiso-C15 : 0 and anteiso-C17 : 0. Based on these data, we propose two novel species, Arthrobacter cheniae sp. nov. (Hz2T = CGMCC 1.9262T=NBRC 113086T) and Arthrobacter frigidicola sp. nov. (MDT2-14T=CGMCC 1.9882T=NBRC 113089T).

A novel actinomycete strain, designed MW4-36T, was isolated from tropical forest soil in Nakhon Sawan Province, Thailand. Morphological and chemotaxonomic characteristics of this strain clearly demonstrated that it belongs to the genus Dactylosporangium . The strain formed finger-shaped sporangia on short sporangiophores that emerged directly from substrate hyphae. The cell-wall peptidoglycan contained glutamic acid, glycine, alanine and meso-diaminopimelic acid including 3-hydroxy-meso-diaminopimelic acid; arabinose, glucose, rhamnose, ribose and xylose were found as whole-cell sugars. The diagnostic phospholipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylinositol; no phosphatidylcholine was found. The predominant menaquinones were MK-9(H8) and MK-9(H6). Mycolic acids were not detected. The predominant cellular fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, iso-C16 : 0, anteiso-C15 : 0 and anteiso-C17 : 0. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 72.9 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences also indicated that the strain should be classified in the genus Dactylosporangium and showed that the closest relative was Dactylosporangium maewongense JCM 15933T (99.4 % similarity). These taxonomic data revealed that strain MW4-36T could be readily distinguished from its phylogenetically closest relative. On the basis of these phenotypic and genotypic data, strain MW4-36T is considered to represent a novel species, for which the name Dactylosporangium siamense sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is MW4-36T ( = BCC 34901T = NBRC 106093T).

A Gram-stain-negative, non-motile and aerobic bacterium, designated CF17T, was isolated from coastal planktonic seaweeds, East China Sea. The isolate grew at 18–37 °C (optimum 25–28 °C), pH 6.5–9.0 (optimum 7.0–8.0) and with 0–5 % NaCl (optimum 1–2 %, w/v) and 0.5–10 % sea salts (optimum 2–3 %, w/v). Growth of strain CF17T could be stimulated prominently by supplementing the growth medium with the autoclaved supernatant of a culture of strain CF5, which was isolated from the same sample along with strain CF17T. The cell morphology of strain CF17T was a bean-shaped rod consisting of a swollen end and a long prostheca. The phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain CF17T clustered with Gemmobacter nectariphilus DSM 15620T within the genus Gemmobacter . The DNA G+C content of strain CF17T was 61.4 mol%. The respiratory quinone was ubiquinone Q-10. The major fatty acids included C18 : 1ω7c and C18 : 0. The polar lipids of strain CF17T consisted of phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, two uncharacterized phospholipids, one uncharacterized aminolipid, three uncharacterized glycolipids and one uncharacterized lipid. On the basis of phenotypic, phylogenetic and chemotaxonomic data, strain CF17T ( = CGMCC 1.11024T = JCM 18498T) is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Gemmobacter , for which the name Gemmobacter megaterium sp. nov. is proposed.
