A one-dimensional AgIcoordination complex,catena-poly[[silver(I)-μ-{2-[2-(pyridin-4-yl)-1H-benzimidazol-1-ylmethyl]phenol-κ2N2:N3}] perchlorate monohydrate], {[Ag(C19H15N3O)]ClO4·H2O}n, was synthesized by the reaction of 2-[2-(pyridin-4-yl)-1H-benzimidazol-1-ylmethyl]phenol (L) with silver perchlorate. In the complex, theLligands are arranged alternately and link AgIcations through one benzimidazole N atom and the N atom of the pyridine ring, leading to an extended zigzag chain structure. In addition, the one-dimensional chains are extended into a three-dimensional supramolecular architectureviaO—H...O hydrogen-bond interactions and π–π stacking interactions. The complex exhibits photoluminescence in acetonitrile solution, with an emission maximum at 390 nm, and investigation of the thermal stability reveals that the network structure is stable up to 650 K.

The sulfur coordination polymer catena-poly[zinc(II)-μ2-bis[5-(methylsulfanyl)-2-sulfanylidene-2,3-dihydro-1,3,4-thiadiazol-3-ido-κ2 N 3:S]], [Zn(C3H3N2S3)2] n or [Zn2MTT4] n , constructed from Zn2+ ions and 5-methylsulfanyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-thione (HMTT), was synthesized successfully and structurally characterized. [Zn2MTT4] n crystallizes in the tetragonal space group I\overline{4} (No. 82). Each MTT− ligand (systematic name: 5-methylsulfanyl-2-sulfanylidene-2,3-dihydro-1,3,4-thiadiazol-3-ide) coordinates to two different ZnII ions, one via the thione group and the other via a ring N atom, with one ZnII atom being in a tetrahedral ZnS4 and the other in a tetrahedral ZnN4 coordination environment. These tetrahedral ZnS4 and ZnN4 units are alternately linked by the organic ligands, forming a one-dimensional chain structure along the c axis. The one-dimensional chains are further linked via C—H...N and C—H...S hydrogen bonds to form a three-dimensional network adopting an ABAB-style arrangement that lies along both the a and b axes. The three-dimensional Hirshfeld surface analysis and two-dimensional (2D) fingerprint plots confirm the major interactions as C—H...S hydrogen bonds with a total of 35.1%, while 7.4% are C—H...N hydrogen-bond interactions. [Zn2MTT4] n possesses high thermal and chemical stability and a linear temperature dependence of the bandgap from room temperature to 270 °C. Further investigation revealed that the bandgap changes sharply in ammonia, but only fluctuates slightly in other solvents, indicating its promising application as a selective sensor.

The molecular structure of the title compound, [FePt(CN)4(C14H8N2)2(H2O)2]n, consists of one-dimensional polymeric [–Fe–NC–Pt(CN)2–CN–]∞chains. Two water molecules and two monodentate 1,4-bis(pyridin-4-yl)buta-1,3-diyne (bpb) ligand molecules complete the octahedral coordination sphere of the FeIIatoms. The Fe—N(py) bond length (py is pyridine) is 2.2700 (15) Å, Fe—N(cyanide) is 2.1185 (16) Å and the Fe—O distance is 2.1275 (14) Å. The water molecules are hydrogen bonded to either bpb ligands or cyanide groups of the planar [Pt(CN)4]2−anion of adjacent polymeric chains. These O—H...N hydrogen bonds, in conjunction with offset and tilted π–π stacking interactions between bpb ligands and cyanide groups, extend the one-dimensional chains into a three-dimensional assembly.

The reaction of mercury(II) chloride with bis(pyridin-3-ylmethyl)sulfane (L, C12H12N2S) in methanol afforded the title crystalline coordination polymercatena-poly[[dichloridomercury(II)]-μ-bis(pyridin-3-ylmethyl)sulfane-κ2N:N′], [HgCl2L]n. The asymmetric unit consists of one HgIIcation, oneLligand and two chloride anions. Each HgIIion is coordinated by two pyridine N atoms from separateLligands and two chloride anions. The metal adopts a highly distorted tetrahedral geometry, with bond angles about the central atom in the range 97.69 (12)–153.86 (7)°. EachLligand bridges two HgIIions, forming an infinite –(Hg–L)n– zigzag chain along thebaxis, with an Hg...Hg separation of 10.3997 (8) Å. In the crystal, adjacent chains are connected by intermolecular C—H...Cl hydrogen bonds, together with Hg—Cl...π interactions [chloride-to-centroid distance = 3.902 (3) Å], that form between a chloride anion and the one of the pyridine rings ofL, generating a two-dimensional layer extending parallel to (101). These layers are further linked by intermolecular C—H...π hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional supramolecular network.

In the title compound, {[Co(C8H4O5)(C10H8N2)]·2H2O]} n or {[Co(OH-BDC)(2,2′-bipy)]·2H2O]} n (where OH-H2BDC is 5-hydroxyisophthalic acid and 2,2′-bipy is 2,2′-bipyridine), the Co atoms are chelated by two N atoms from the 2,2′-bipy ligand and by four O atoms from OH-BDC ligands in a highly distorted octahedral geometry. OH-BDC acts as a tetradentate ligand, with one carboxylate group chelating one Co atom and the other binding in a monodentate fashion to two other Co atoms to form a one-dimensional zigzag chain. In the crystal structure, one of the solvent water molecules lies on a crystallographic twofold axis. The one-dimensional molecular chains are assembled into a two-dimensional network via O—H...O hydrogen-bonding interactions, while π–π stacking interactions generate a three-dimensional open framework between the two-dimensional networks.

The novel cadmium complexcatena-poly[cadmium(II)-μ3-{2-[3-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-pyrazol-1-yl]butanedioato}], [Cd(C12H9N3O4)]n, has been prepared by the conjugate addition reaction of 2-(1H-pyrazol-3-yl)pyridine to fumaric acid in the presence of Cd(OAc)2·3H2O (OAc is acetate) at 413 K. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the complex consists of one-dimensional ladders constructed from [Cd2(COO)2] dimeric subunits. A combination of hydrogen bonding and π–π stacking interactions extend the one-dimensional ladders into a three-dimensional supramolecular architecture.

In the title compound, [Cu(C10H4O8)(C12H8N2)] n , the CuII cation has a four-coordination environment completed by two N atoms from one 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) ligand and two O atoms belonging to two dihydrogen benzene-1,2,4,5-tetracarboxylate anions (H2TCB2−). There is a twofold axis passing through the CuII cation and the centre of the phen ligand. The [Cu(phen)]2+ moieties are bridged by H2TCB2− anions to form an infinite one-dimensional coordination polymer with a zigzag chain structure along the c axis. A double-chain structure is formed by hydrogen bonds between adjacent zigzag chains. Furthermore, there are π–π stacking interactions between the phen ligands, with an average distance of 3.64 Å, resulting in a two-dimensional network structure.

The complex poly[[aqua(μ2-phthalato-κ2O1:O2){μ3-2-[3-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-pyrazol-1-yl]acetato-κ4N2,N3:O:O′}{μ2-2-[3-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-pyrazol-1-yl]acetato-κ3N2,N3:O}dizinc(II)] dihydrate], {[Zn2(C10H8N3O2)2(C8H4O4)(H2O)]·2H2O}n, has been prepared by solvothermal reaction of 2-[3-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-pyrazol-1-yl]acetonitrile (PPAN) with zinc(II). Under hydrothermal conditions, PPAN is hydrolyzed to 2-[3-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-pyrazol-1-yl]acetate (PPAA−). The structure determination reveals that the complex is a one-dimensional double chain containing cationic [Zn4(PPAA)4]4+structural units, which are further extended by bridging phthalate ligands. The one-dimensional chains are extended into a three-dimensional supramolecular architectureviahydrogen-bonding and π–π stacking interactions.

The relation between authoritarianism and social dominance orientation was analyzed, with authoritarianism measured using a three-dimensional scale. The implicit multidimensional structure (authoritarian submission, conventionalism, authoritarian aggression) of Altemeyer’s (1981, 1988) conceptualization of authoritarianism is inconsistent with its one-dimensional methodological operationalization. The dimensionality of authoritarianism was investigated using confirmatory factor analysis in a sample of 713 university students. As hypothesized, the three-factor model fit the data significantly better than the one-factor model. Regression analyses revealed that only authoritarian aggression was related to social dominance orientation. That is, only intolerance of deviance was related to high social dominance, whereas submissiveness was not.
