AbstractThe creep behavior of a commercial grade polycarbonate was investigated in this study. 10 different constant stresses ranging from 8 MPa to 50 MPa were applied to the specimen, and the resultant creep strains were measured at room temperature. It was found that the creep could be modeled linearly below 15 MPa, and nonlinearly above 15 MPa. Different nonlinear viscoelastic models have been briefly reviewed and used to fit the test data. It is shown that the Findley model is a special case of the Schapery model, and both the Findley model and the simplified multiple integral representation are suitable for properly describing the creep behavior of the polycarbonate investigated in this paper; however, the Findley model fit the data better than the simplified multiple integral with three terms.

In this paper, we report on microstructural, optical and electrical properties of alternating multilayer of vanadium pentoxide (V2O5), 25 nm, and vanadium (V), 5 nm, thin films deposited at room temperature by radio frequency (RF) and DC magnetron sputtering, respectively. Raman and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy have been employed to investigate the effects of thermal annealing for 20, 30 and 40 min at 400[Formula: see text]C in Nitrogen (N2) atmosphere on the multiple phase formation and its impact on the film resistance and temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR). We demonstrate that the oxygen free annealing environment allows the formation of multiple phases including V2O5, V6O[Formula: see text] and VO2 through oxygen diffusion and consequent deficiency in V2O5 layer.

ABSTRACTLaser modulated thermoreflectivity, also called thermal wave technology, has been used in recent years to monitor ion implantation dose by monitoring the damage due to implantation. The thermal properties which are affected by lattice perturbations and other crystal imperfections are tracked by this technique. A gauge capability study was performed on the Thermawave TP300 for monitoring ion implantation of GaAs wafers. The results are presented. In order to determine the sensitivity of the technique to changes in dose, a matrix of GaAs and Si wafers was measured. During this study a downward trend was observed in the repeatability of our results. It is shown that damage to a sample during implantation will relax to a certain degree at room temperature. This damage relaxation can take up to 80 hours at room temperature and can be observed using thermal waves. It is shown that “hot wafer decay” follows a logarithmic decay which is indicative of a diffusion process. At 180°C the decay lasts less than 1 minute which indicates that the defects causing this phenomenon have a low activation energy.

Reaction of the CH-acidic compounds 2-nitropropane, cyclopentadiene and 9-ethylfluorene with HON (nBu)4 affords the corresponding tetrabutylammonium salts in crystalline form, which have been characterized by X -ray structure analysis. The nitrostabilized salt is not a “naked ” anion (real carbanion). Rather, the α-methylene entities of the N+(nBu)4 cations form relatively strong hydrogen bonds with the O -atom s of the nitronateanion, forming dimers in a three-dimensional network. In solution dimers in the form of supramolecular ion pairs exist. In contrast, the cyclopentadienyl anion appears to be a real carbanion, since anion and cation do not interact with one another via H -bonding. The structure of the N+(nBu)4 salt of the 9-ethylfluorenyl anion is a special case in that closer contacts between cation and anion occur, which may be indicative of unusual [CH ··· C]- bonding. All three salts function as initiators in the metal-free anionic polymerization of acrylates and methacrylates at room temperature. In the case of tetrabutylammoniumcyclopentadienide, star polymers are formed.
