A series of two-dimensional (2D) coordination polymers (CPs), namely poly[[bis(μ-acetato)diaqua(μ6-biphenyl-3,3′,5,5′-tetracarboxylato)bis(N,N-dimethylacetamide)digadolinium(III)] N,N-dimethylacetamide monosolvate], {[Gd2(C16H6O8)(C2H3O2)2(C4H9NO)2(H2O)2]·C4H9NO} n (CP1), poly[[bis(μ-acetato)diaqua(μ6-biphenyl-3,3′,5,5′-tetracarboxylato)bis(N,N-dimethylacetamide)didysprosium(III)] N,N-dimethylacetamide monosolvate], {[Dy2(C16H6O8)(C2H3O2)2(C4H9NO)2(H2O)2]·C4H9NO} n (CP2), poly[bis(μ-acetato)diaqua(μ6-biphenyl-3,3′,5,5′-tetracarboxylato)bis(N,N-dimethylacetamide)dineodymium(III)], [Nd2(C16H6O8)(C2H3O2)2(C4H9NO)2(H2O)2] n (CP3), poly[bis(μ-acetato)diaqua(μ6-biphenyl-3,3′,5,5′-tetracarboxylato)bis(N,N-dimethylacetamide)disamarium(III)], [Sm2(C16H6O8)(C2H3O2)2(C4H9NO)2(H2O)2] n (CP4), has been synthesized from rigid biphenyl-3,3′,5,5′-tetracarboxylic acid under solvothermal conditions. Their structures have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses, elemental analyses, IR spectra, powder X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analyses, and CP1–CP4 crystallize in the monoclinic space group P21/n. CP1–CP4 are isomorphous and feature similar 2D double layers, which are further extended via interlayer hydrogen-bonding interactions into a three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular structure. Hydrogen-bonding interactions between N,N-dimethylacetamide molecules and carboxylate O atoms strengthen the packing of the layers. The organic ligands interconnect with metal ions to generate 2D layered structures with a (4,4)-connected net having {44.62} topology. CP1 has been investigated for its magnetic properties and magnetic susceptibility measurements were carried out in the range 2.0–300 K. The results of the magnetic measurements show weak antiferromagnetic coupling between the GdIII ions in CP1. Moreover, the strong luminescence of CP2 and CP4 can be selectively quenched by the Fe3+ ion and toxic solvents (e.g. acetone).

Coordination polymers with a new rigid ligand 1,3-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)adamantane (L) were prepared by its reaction with cadmium(II) or silver(I) nitrates. Crystal structure of the coordination polymers was determined using single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Silver formed two-dimensional coordination polymer [Ag(L)NO3]n, in which metal ions are linked by 1,3-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)adamantane ligands, coordinated by nitrogen atoms at positions 2 and 4 of 1,2,4-triazole rings. Layers of the coordination polymer consist of rare 18- and 30-membered {Ag2L2} and {Ag4L4} metallocycles. Cadmium(II) nitrate formed two kinds of one-dimensional coordination polymers depending on the metal-to-ligand ratio used in the synthesis. Coordination polymer [Cd(L)2(NO3)2]n was obtained in case of a 1:2 M:L ratio, while for M:L = 2:1 product {[Cd(L)(NO3)2(CH3OH)]·0.5CH3OH}n was isolated. All coordination polymers demonstrated ligand-centered emission near 450 nm upon excitation at 370 nm.

Three new supramolecular coordination polymers, namely [Zn(1,3-BDC)(HL)]n (Polymer 1), [Zn3(1,3,5-BTC)2(HL)2(H2O)2]n (Polymer 2), and [Zn9(5-SO3-1,3-BDC)2(L)8(OH)4]n (Polymer 3), were synthesized under solvothermal conditions, based on 1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridin-3-amine (HL) along with 1,3-benzenedicarboxylate (1,3-BDC) and its derivatives, such as 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate (1,3,5-BTC) and 5-sulfo-1,3-benzenedicarboxylate (5-SO3-1,3-BDC). Polymers 1–3 were characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Polymer 1 exhibited a two-dimensional (2D) 4-connected sql net. The neighboring 2D nets were further linked into a 3D supramolecular network by hydrogen-bonding interactions. Polymer 2 displayed a 3D (4, 4, 4)-connected network, which was further stabilized by R 2 2 (14) and S(9) hydrogen-bonding rings along with π–π interactions. The 2D sheet structure of Polymer 3 was constructed by novel quasi-linear nonanuclear Zn(II) units, which further extended into a 3D supramolecular structure by hydrogen-bonding interactions. The solid-state photoluminescence properties of Polymers 1–3 were also investigated.

The hydrothermal assembly of a very stable porphyrin network with nanoscale cavities is described. A tightly packed and interpenetrated, linear polymeric framework was observed in the solid-state X-ray structure of freebase 5,10,15,20-tetrakis-(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin coordinated to calcium(II) ions. Strong hydrogen-bonding interactions between the coordination polymers form a two-dimensional network. Perpendicular bands interpenetrate generating an unusual three-dimensional box that clathrates a pyridine molecule.

Copper(II) coordination polymers have attracted considerable interest due to their catalytic, adsorption, luminescence and magnetic properties. The reactions of copper(II) with 2-amino-4-sulfobenzoic acid (H2asba) in the presence/absence of the auxiliary chelating ligand 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) under ambient conditions yielded two supramolecular coordination polymers, namely (3-amino-4-carboxybenzene-1-sulfonato-κO1)bis(1,10-phenanthroline-κ2N,N′)copper(II) 3-amino-4-carboxybenzene-1-sulfonate monohydrate, [Cu(C7H6N2O5S)(C12H8N2)2](C7H6N2O5S)·H2O, (1), andcatena-poly[[diaquacopper(II)]-μ-3-amino-4-carboxylatobenzene-1-sulfonato-κ2O4:O4′], [Cu(C7H6N2O5S)(H2O)2]n, (2). The products were characterized by FT–IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), solid-state UV–Vis spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, as well as by variable-temperature powder X-ray diffraction analysis (VT-PXRD). Intermolecular π–π stacking interactions in (1) link the mononuclear copper(II) cation units into a supramolecular polymeric chain, which is further extended into a supramolecular double chain through interchain hydrogen bonds. Supramolecular double chains are then extended into a two-dimensional supramolecular double layer through hydrogen bonds between the lattice Hasba−anions, H2O molecules and double chains. Left- and right-handed 21helices formed by the Hasba−anions are arranged alternately within the two-dimensional supramolecular double layers. Complex (2) exhibits a polymeric chain which is further extended into a three-dimensional supramolecular network through interchain hydrogen bonds. Complex (1) shows a reversible dehydration–rehydration behaviour, while complex (2) shows an irreversible dehydration–rehydration behaviour.

The new dodecanuclear organostannoxane {[(PhCH2Sn)12(μ3-O)14(μ-OH)6](F3CSO3)2} (2) has been isolated as single crystals from the reaction of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (F3CSO3H) with the decanuclear dibenzyltin(IV)-oxo cluster, [(PhCH2)2SnO]6{[(PhCH2)2SnOH]2(CO3)}2 (1), in [D3]acetonitrile, at room temperature. Compound 2 was structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis, multinuclear NMR and IR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and thermogravimetry. The structure of 2 can be described as a football cage framework containing twelve tin atoms, exhibiting two distinct coordination geometries, penta- and hexacoordinated respectively, and linked together through μ3-O and μ-OH ligands. Resulting from Sn-C bond cleavage, all tin atoms are only connected to one benzyl ligand. Furthermore, two of the three oxygen atoms of each trifluoromethanesulfonate counteranions are involved in hydrogen bonding interactions with bridging μ-OH groups of two distinct Sn12 cations leading to the propagation of a two-dimensional polymeric network.

AbstractBased on 2-(4-pyridyl)-terephthalate (H2pta) and oxalate ligands, two new lanthanide-containing coordination polymers (CPs), [Tb(pta)(C2O4)0.5(H2O)2)]·2H2O (1) and [Sm(pta)(C2O4)0.5(H2O)2)]·2H2O (2), have been synthesized under solvothermal conditions. The structures of both 1 and 2 have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Infrared, elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis data are also presented. The crystals of 1 and 2 exhibit isostructural layer-like networks, crystallizing in the triclinic space group P$‾{1}$. The layers are further stabilized and associated into 3D architectures through hydrogen bonding. Remarkably, the CPs 1 and 2 exhibit excellent water stability and remarkable thermostability with thermal decomposition temperatures of more than 420 °C.

Modifying polyoxometalates with organic and/or metal-organic moieties is a widely adopted method for broading the range of properties. In this work a new polyoxometalate constructed from Anderson-type polyoxoanions and L-arginine (Arg =L-arginine) molecules Na [CrMo6(OH)6O18]}(H2Arg)2·8H2O(1) has been synthesized via conventional method and characterized by routine techniques. Single-crystal X-Ray diffraction analysis shows that compound 1 is constructed by chiralL-arginine grafted Anderson-type clusters, sodium cation and water molecules which are further stabilized by hydrogen bonding interactions constitute 3D supramolecular networks. In addition, both antitumor behavior and photocatalytic activities of compound 1 were investigated.

In recent years, much initial interest and enthusiasm has focused on the self-assembly of coordination polymers due to the aesthetics of their crystalline architectures and their potential applications as new functional materials. As part of an exploration of chiral coordination polymers, a new twofold interpenetrated two-dimensional (2D) coordination polymer, namely, poly[[tetraaquabis[μ3-(2R,2′R)-2,2′-(benzene-1,4-dicarboxamido)dipropionato-κ5 O,O′:O′′,O′′′:O′′]dicadmium(II)] trihydrate], {[Cd2(C14H14N2O6)2(H2O)4]·3H2O} n , has been synthesized by the reaction of Cd(CH3COO)2·2H2O with the designed ligand (2R,2′R)-2,2′-(benzene-1,4-dicarboxamido)dipropionic acid (H2 L). The compound has been structurally characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. In the crystal structure, each CdII cation binds to three carboxylate groups from two crystallographically independent L 2− dianions. Four carboxylate groups link two crystallographically independent cadmium cations into a 4,4-connected secondary building unit (SBU). The resulting SBUs are extended into a two-dimensional folding sheet via the terephthalamide moiety of the ligand as a spacer, which can be simplified as a (4,4)-connected 4,4L15 net with the point symbol (3.53.62)(32.52.62). In the lattice, two independent folding sheets interpenetrate each other to yield a double-sheet layer. The resulting 2D layers pack in parallel arrays through intermolecular hydrogen bonds and interlayer π–π interactions. The thermal stability and photoluminescence properties of the title compound have been investigated and it exhibits an enhanced fluorescence emission and a longer lifetime compared with free H2 L.
