Reform of UK copyright law and its benefits for libraries
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of copyright law changes in the UK, especially as they affect interlibrary loan. Design/methodology/approach – Analysis of new legislation were tested against interlibrary needs. Findings – The new laws bring major benefits to libraries and their users by expanding the types of material available and simplifying the management procedures required for document delivery. Practical implications – Libraries and other institutions can now offer a much wider range of services. Social implications – There are considerable benefits to individual users, including those with disabilities, as access is granted to a wider range of materials.
