Significant growth and successful integration of mobile devices to the education landscape have garnered the introduction of mobile learning (mLearning) as a new technology-enabled educational tool. Mobile learning has become a new higher educational paradigm which makes learning more flexible and accessible. However, student readiness and their perceptions about educational use of tablet devices are still a concern particularly in the developing countries like the Pacific island countries (PICs). This article investigates these two important attributes of tablet devices in a first year blended course from a higher education institute in the Pacific with a sample of 43 students. The results revealed that the participants perceived that tablet devices were effective and innovative learning tools. The participants supported the idea of using tablet devices and were ready to incorporate them for learning provided there was training in place. This article finally outlines recommendations for the education sectors in the Pacific.

The presence of technology on college campuses has increased rapidly in recent years. Students come to the classroom with a variety of technological devices including smart phones, tablets, or laptops and use them during academic activity. For this reason, there are many researchers who, in recent times, have been interested in the problems derived from digital distraction in higher education. In many cases, researchers have conducted studies and surveys to obtain first-hand information from the protagonists, that is, from university professors and students. Despite the efforts, there are many questions that still remain unanswered. The authors are aware of the enormous challenge that the use of technology poses in the university classrooms and want to delve into the causes and consequences of student digital distraction and the strategies that can be used by instructors to curb student digital distraction without deteriorating student-instructor rapport in the context of higher education.

In this edition of the almanac «Ethnodialogy» the third, and final, part of the article «Towards international standards of education: from pedagogy of early thinkers to modern approaches» is published. The article is prepared by the specialists of the Faculty of regional studies and ethnocultural education of the Moscow Pedagogical State University. It tells us about the contribution of the ideas of the great Russian scientists M.V. Lomonosov, V.I. Vernadsky, K.E. Tsiolkovsky, and others to the formation of the Global worldview. Both the process of development of the Common educational environment and the International standard classification of education are presented in the article. Speaking about the modern globalization at the turn of the millennium, the authors note the growing interdependence of the world — economic, sociocultural, and political. Special attention is paid to its role in the development of integration processes in education, including the formation of a common Eurasian educational space by the Russian Federation together with other members of the CIS, the EAEU, the Asia-Pacific region, and the SCO; the consolidation of agreements on a pan-European educational space within the framework of the Bologna Process; the adoption, with the assistance of UNESCO, of the regional conventions for the recognition of qualifications in higher education in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, the Arab East, the Mediterranean and Latin America. And, finally, the adoption of the first international legal instrument in the UN system in the field of education with a global scope — the Global Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education. The article is followed by the Supplement «The main international legalacts in the field of education».

The United States' workforce is going through an enormous generational shift as Baby Boomers exit the workforce and Millennials launch their careers. The awareness of generational differences in learning styles and attitudes has been particularly acute in colleges and universities as Millennials make their way through higher education. In this regard, institutions of higher education are in a unique position to begin shaping the leadership values, identities, and experiences of the future leaders of our society. This chapter seeks to fill some of the gaps in the literature about the design of education programs to increase leadership expertise in Millennials through observation of a leadership program designed and taught by undergraduate students at a large university in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. Findings include insights into how Millennial students define and value leadership, self-organized to create systems of peer learning and mentorship, and how these digital natives did (and did not) use technology.
