AbstractThis study investigated types of career choice in high school students and examined the effects of career paths on time perspective development. The participants were 4,756 third grade students from nine public high schools in Tokyo. The high school questionnaire survey was conducted throughout autumn of 2008, 2009, and 2010. One year later, 962 graduates participated in the follow-up questionnaire survey by post. Distinguishing gender difference among career paths was found. Girls tend to choose significantly shorter learning careers (p < .01), for example junior college or vocational school in comparison to boys. Career indecision, i.e. students who could not set a concrete future career in high school, had significantly more negative time perspective than other groups (p < .05), which was caused by a deficiency of their basic cognitive ability. Longitudinal data showed different patterns of fluctuation in time perspective between “school to school transition” and “school to work transition”. It is suggested that the “school to work transition” tends to be more critical for adolescents and has negative effects on time perspective. These results suggest that the goal content in careers may promote or inhibit the formation of time perspectives during the graduation transition.

The basics of accounting are very important for someone who will do business. Therefore, we conduct counseling to students, as well as motivate them about choosing a career related to the science they are pursuing for their future in choosing which major and university to go to. Since the 2020 Pandemic, all schools use an online learning system, so we want to provide counseling to high school students about the basics of accounting, as well as provide information about professions that can be taken into consideration after graduating from school. As prospective students, they must know a very promising profession for their future. This introduction can be a factor in their career choice. This is what drives us, in introducing a promising profession for the future. Then a follow-up was carried out by making a statement of cooperation from Mr. Joseph Setiawan as the Principal of the Almasih Christian High School. This activity was carried out through zoom, followed by high school students majoring in science and social studies, which could provide knowledge and insight for them. The results of this activity can increase the intention of school students to continue to college, coupled with support from schools and parents. So that it can improve the quality of human resources to become useful individuals for the nation and state. The results achieved in this activity encourage their interest to enter college in the accounting field. Dasar-dasar akuntansi sangat penting bagi seseorang yang akan melakukan usaha. Oleh karena itu, kami melakukan penyuluhan kepada siswa dan siswi, serta metivasi mereka tentang pemilihan karir yang berhubungan dengan ilmu yang ditekuni bagi masa depan mereka dalam memilih jurusan dan universitas mana yang akan dituju. Sejak Pandemi tahun 2020, semua sekolah menggunakan sistem pembelajaran online, sehingga kami ingin memberikan penyuluhan kepada siswa-siswi SMA mengenai dasar-dasar akuntansi, serta memberikan informasi mengenai profesi yang dapat menjadi bahan pertimbangan setelah lulus dari sekolah. Sebagai calon mahasiswa, mereka harus mengenal profesi yang sangat menjanjikan bagi masa depan mereka. Pengenalan ini dapat menjadi salah satu faktor dalam pemilihan karir mereka. Hal inilah yang mendorong kami, dalam memperkenalkan profesi yang menjanjikan buat masa depan. Maka dilakukan tindak lanjut dengan membuat surat pernyataan kerjasama dari Bapak Joseph Setiawan selaku Kepala Sekolah Menengah Atas Kristen Almasih. Kegiatan ini dilakukan melalui zoom dengan diikuti oleh siswa dan siswi SMA jurusan IPA dan IPS, yang dapat memberikan pengetahuan dan wawasan bagi mereka. Hasil kegiatan ini dapat meningkatkan niat siswa-siswi sekolah untuk melanjutkan ke perguruan tinggi, ditambah dengan dukungan dari sekolah dan orang tua. Sehingga dapat meningkatkan kualitas sumber daya manusia menjadi pribadi yang berguna bagi bangsa dan negara. Hasil yang dicapai dalam kegiatan ini, mendorong minat mereka untuk masuk kuliah di bidang akuntansi.

AbstractThis study aimed to determine the role of academic self-concept in mediating the relationship between self-regulation learning and commitment to career choice in high school students. This research focuses on the dimensions of vocational exploration and commitment, namely openness to explore career choices before committing to a particular career choice. This research uses quantitative approach with 315 students of high school students of X-XI class. Measurement of commitment to career choice is done by measuring tool Commitment to Career Choices Scale sub scale vocational exploraton and commitment. Measurement of self-regulation in learning using Motivated Strategies and Learning Questionnaire, while the academic self-concept was measured using the Academic Self Concept for Adolescents Scale. The result shows that self regulation in learning affects commitment to career choice through academic self concept. The self-regulated skills in applied learning consistently will shape the positive academic self-concept and impact on the increased commitment to career choice among high school students.AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran konsep diri akademik dalam memediasi hubungan antara regulasi diri dalam belajar dan komitmen terhadap pilihan karier pada siswa SMA. Penelitian ini memfokuskan pada salah satu dimensi dari komitmen terhadap pilihan karier, yaitu dimensi vocational exploration and commitment (VEC). Penelitian ini meng­gunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan partisipan penelitian berjumlah 315 orang siswa SMA kelas X-XI.  Pengukuran komitmen terhadap pilihan karier dilakukan dengan alat ukur Commitment to Career Choices Scale sub skala vocational exploration and commitment. Pengukuran regulasi diri dalam belajar menggunakan Motivated Strategies and Learning Questionnaire, sedangkan konsep diri akademik diukur dengan menggunakan Academic Self Concept for Adolescents Scale. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa regulasi diri dalam belajar memengaruhi komitmen terhadap pilihan karier melalui konsep diri akademik. Keterampilan regulasi diri dalam belajar yang diterapkan dengan konsisten akan membentuk konsep diri akademik yang positif dan berdampak pada meningkatnya komitmen terhadap pilihan karier dimensi vocational exploration and commitment pada siswa SMA.

Demand for a nursing career in Malaysia has increased, although it has not been a popular course of choice among students. Understanding the perceptions of students about nursing may help identify any misconception toward the profession and their consideration to choose nursing as a career. This study aimed to identify the perceptions of secondary school students about nursing and their potential interest in joining a nursing career. A cross-sectional study using convenience sampling was conducted among 155 students by administering a High School Students Self-Administered Questionnaire from three selected secondary schools in Kuantan, Pahang Malaysia. Overall, the respondents positively perceived the nursing profession, although several parts were viewed negatively. Despite having a positive notion about nursing, only 18.1% of the respondents were interested to select nursing as their career and a majority of them were women. In conclusion, no significant difference in perceptions about nursing and consideration to choose nursing as a career was found. Nevertheless, the image of nurses and a nursing career need to be improved in the eye of students and societies. In addition, the students were not aware of the benefits of nursing with several misconceptions of genders and doctor’s aid. Overall, the status of nursing in Malaysia should be enhanced to make it a valuable career. Keywords: perception, nursing, career, choice, secondary school, students Abstrak Persepsi tentang Mempertimbangkan Keperawatan sebagai Pilihan Karir pada Siswa Sekolah Sekunder. Permintaan untuk karir keperawatan di Malaysia mengalami peningkatan, meskipun belum menjadi pilihan populer di kalangan siswa. Pemahaman mengenai persepsi siswa tentang keperawatan dapat membantu mengidentifikasi kesalahpahaman terhadap profesi dan pertimbangan mereka untuk memilih keperawatan sebagai karier. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi persepsi siswa sekolah menengah tentang keperawatan dan potensi minat mereka untuk memilih karir keperawatan. Sebuah studi cross-sectional menggunakan convenience sampling dilakukan pada 155 siswa dengan High School Students Self-Administered Questionnaire dari tiga sekolah menengah di Kuantan, Pahang Malaysia. Secara keseluruhan, responden memandang positif profesi keperawatan, namun beberapa bagian dipandang negatif. Meskipun memiliki gagasan positif tentang keperawatan, hanya 18,1% dari responden tertarik untuk memilih keperawatan sebagai karir mereka dan mayoritas dari mereka adalah perempuan. Kesimpulannya, tidak ada perbedaan signifikan dalam persepsi tentang keperawatan dan pertimbangan untuk memilih keperawatan sebagai karier. Namun demikian, citra perawat dan karier keperawatan perlu ditingkatkan di mata siswa dan masyarakat. Selain itu, siswa tidak menyadari manfaat keperawatan dengan beberapa kesalahpahaman tentang gender dan bantuan dokter. This paper discusses the highly controversial issues in the northern part of Surabaya; an issue that has attracted the attention of both parents and teachers alike, the issue of High School students’ attachment to the values of Islam. Many worried that given their attitude, these students have no concern whatsoever with the basic principles of Islam. This paper will show the otherwise by investigating carefully the notion of career choice among these students. This specific field of investigation has not received proportional attention from any field researcher apart from its significance both to the state of our education and moral conduct. The paper first argues that the attitude of these students is more complicated than many have assumed. It then tries to show that religious values are in fact the strongest determinants in students making their career choice. This theory comes as a serious challenge to many baseless assumptions that as a religion Islam has lost its influence over its younger followers. This research is done in different areas in the northern part of Surabaya. The questionnaires are distributed at random representing each area proportionally. The data are collected through these questionnaires based on the theory of Holland RIASEC.
