This paper explores the grey model based PSO (particle swarm optimization) algorithm for anti-cauterization reliability design of underground pipelines. First, depending on underground pipelines’ corrosion status, failure modes such as leakage and breakage are studied. Then, a grey GM(1,1) model based PSO algorithm is employed to the reliability design of the pipelines. One important advantage of the proposed algorithm is that only fewer data is used for reliability design. Finally, applications are used to illustrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed approach.

The delimitation of permanent basic farmland is essentially a multi-objective optimization problem. The traditional demarcation methods cannot simultaneously take into account the requirements of cultivated land quality and the spatial layout of permanent basic farmland, and it cannot balance the relationship between agriculture and urban development. This paper proposed a multi-objective permanent basic farmland delimitation model based on an immune particle swarm optimization algorithm. The general rules for delineating the permanent basic farmland were defined in the model, and the delineation goals and constraints have been formally expressed. The model introduced the immune system concepts to complement the existing theory. This paper describes the coding and initialization methods for the algorithm, particle position and speed update mechanism, and fitness function design. We selected Xun County, Henan Province, as the research area and set up control experiments that aligned with the different targets and compared the performance of the three models of particle swarm optimization (PSO), artificial immune algorithm (AIA), and the improved AIA-PSO in solving multi-objective problems. The experiments proved the feasibility of the model. It avoided the adverse effects of subjective factors and promoted the scientific rationality of the results of permanent basic farmland delineation.

With the acceleration of urbanization, there is an increasing trend of heavy pollution. PM2.5, also known as fine particulate matter, refers to particles in the atmosphere with a diameter of less than or equal to 2.5 microns. PM2.5 has a serious impact on human life, a sustainable city, national economic development, and so on. How to forecast the PM2.5 concentration accurately, and then formulate a scientific air pollution prevention and monitoring program is of great significance. This paper proposes a hybrid model based on echo state network (ESN) and an improved particle swarm optimization (IPSO) algorithm for the Beijing air pollution problem, and provides a method for PM2.5 concentration forecasting. Firstly, the PSO algorithm is improved to speed up the search performance. Secondly, the optimal subset of the original data is selected by the convergence cross-mapping (CCM) method. Thirdly, the phase space reconstruction (PSR) process is combined with the forecasting model, and some parameters are optimized by the IPSO. Finally, the optimal variable subset is used to predict PM2.5 concentration. The 11-dimensional air quality data in Beijing from January 1 to December 31, 2016 are analyzed by the proposed method. The experimental results show that the hybrid method is superior to other comparative models in several evaluation indicators, both in one-step and multi-step forecasting of PM2.5 time series. The hybrid model has good application prospects in air quality forecasting and monitoring.

It is of vital significance to accurately forecast the settlement of high fill subgrade, which is the foundation for disaster prevention and treatment of subgrade. According to the monitoring data of high fill subgrade, a novel model, called PSOMGVM model, based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) and Markov chain is proposed. Firstly, the typical characteristics of settlement curve are analyzed from the aspect of geomechanics theory and based on the grey theory, the grey Verhulst model (GVM) with unequal time-interval is proposed. Then, according to the theory of Markov chain, the grey Verhulst model is built to revise the relative residuals of the GVM, in which the effects of volatility characteristics can be considered. Finally, the PSOMGVM model based on PSO algorithm and Markov chain is set up, which whitens the parameters of the grey interval. In order to demonstrate the fitness and the ability of the proposed model, five competing models are introduced to predict the settlement of the high fill subgrade of Xiangli Expressway in Yunnan Province. Through the analysis of APE, MAPE, and RMSE, it states that the accuracy and performance of the PSOMGVM model outperform the other five competing models for simulative and predictive periods.
