The main objective of the current study is to develop a business model for service providers of cloud computing which is designed based on circular economy principles and can ensure the sustainable consumption. Background Even though the demand for cloud computing technology is increasing day by day in all over the world, the current the linear economy principles are incapable to ensure society development needs. To consider the benefit of the society and the vendors at the same time, the principles of circular economy can address this issue. An extensive literature review on consumption, sustainable consumption, circular economic, business model, and cloud computing were conducted. the proposed model of Osterwalder, Pigneur and Tucci (2005) is admitted designing the circular business model. The proposed model of the study is the contribution of this study where provides the guidelines for the cloud computing service providers to achieve both their economic profits and the society’ needs. Findings Finding reveals that if the cloud computing service providers design their business model based on the “access” principle of circular economy, they can meet their economic profits and the society’ needs at a same time. ZusammenfassungDie Gestaltung digitaler Geschäftsmodelle basiert auf dem disruptiven Potenzial von technologischen Innovationen, das in unterschiedlichen Branchen genutzt wird. Der Logistik kommt in Anbetracht ihrer essentiellen Querschnittfunktion sowie der Entstehung umfangreicher Daten durch den Einsatz verschiedener IT-Systeme für die Abwicklung von Frachttransporten eine besondere Bedeutung zu. Derzeitige Debatten werden mit Blick auf das Cloud-Computing sowie die Merkmale neu entstehender digitaler Plattformen geführt. Insbesondere für das Transportmanagement im Güterkraftverkehr entstehen datenbasierte as-a-Service Konzepte, die das tradierte Geschäftsmodell von Logistikdienstleistern sowie das Geschäftsfeld der Anbieter von Transportmanagementsystemen (TMS) attackieren. Auffällig ist, dass einer prozessorientierten Betrachtung der cloudbasierten Anwendungssysteme bislang wenig Aufmerksamkeit entgegengebracht wurde. In diesem Beitrag soll ein vertieftes Verständnis für Fracht-Plattformen im Güterverkehr erzeugt werden. Anhand von Experteninterviews wird zunächst das Konzept Freight-Logistics-as-a-Service (FLaaS) für ein datengetriebenes Transportmanagement (DTM) entworfen. Im Anschluss werden auf Grundlage des Business Model Canvas die strategischen Betrachtungen der digitalen Plattformen um Aspekte der Geschäftsmodellentwicklung der Datendienstleister erweitert. Eine intelligente Nutzung des Datenpotentials zeigt sich insbesondere in der Verbesserung der Transparenz sowie der optimierten Auslastung der verfügbaren Transportressourcen. Durch das präsentierte Konzept FLaaS und das betrachtete cloudbasierte Geschäftsmodell werden abschließend strategische Handlungsmaßnahmen formuliert. Die Aspekte Datenkompetenz, Datenstrategie und Kollaboration sind für die Akteure von hoher Relevanz, um eine nachhaltige und wertschöpfende Gestaltung von datengetriebenen Transportketten zu erreichen.

This chapter proposes a new Supply Chain Business Model in the Education domain and demonstrates how Education as a Service (EaaS) can be delivered. The implementation at the University of Greenwich (UoG) is used as a case study. Cloud computing business models are classified into eight Business Models; this classification is essential to the development of EaaS. A pair of the Hexagon Models are used to review Cloud projects against success criteria; one Hexagon Model focuses on Business Model and the other on IT Services. The UoG case study demonstrates the added value offered by Supply Chain software deployed by private Cloud, where an Oracle suite and SAP supply chain can demonstrate supply chain distribution and is useful for teaching. The evaluation shows that students feel more motivated and can understand their coursework better.

In our relatively recent past we have witnessed several technological revolutions which rapidly replaced one set of technologies by another, and in the process created what Schumpeter called the creative destruction. Today, we are witnessing a technological revolution that is changing the way we live, work, and communicate. We call this the digital revolution which brings with it new technologies, methods, and business models. This chapter discusses the digital revolution and the platform business model. This business model is used by many “sharing economy” businesses such as Airbnb and Uber. The success of this business model is dependent on the rapid expansion of its user-base. This business model requires infrastructure and applications that can cope with this rapid expansion. Cloud computing has been providing these services.

Cloud computing is a rapidly evolving computational model, which has succeeded in transforming the ICT industry and the economy's production techniques by making corresponding services even more accessible to businesses, offering cost-effective solutions. The cloud broker is a new business model, derived from the necessity of finding the best provider, or the best bundle for the end user. It is a third-party business that assists clients in making the best decision in choosing the most suitable cloud provider and the most effective service bundle for their needs, in terms of performance and price. This chapter analyzes the cloud broker business model and highlights the broker's vital role and the benefits that arise from the use of its services. In that context, it describes cloud brokering and a market analysis, together with the most popular pricing models, together with a comparison among them, concluding with future directions for the expansion of the brokerage model.

Cloud computing is the new consolidated trend in ICT, often considered as the panacea to all the problems of existing large-scale distributed paradigms such as Grid and hierarchical clustering. The Cloud breakthrough is the service oriented perspective of providing everything “as a service”. Different from the others large-scale distributed paradigms, it was born from commercial contexts, with the aim of selling the temporarily unexploited computing resources of huge datacenters in order to reduce the costs. Since this business model is really attractive and convenient for both providers and consumers, the Cloud paradigm is quickly growing and widely spreading, even in non commercial context. In fact, several activities on the Cloud, such as Nimbus, Eucalyptus, OpenNEbula, and Reservoir, etc., have been undertaken, aiming at specifying open Cloud infrastructure middleware.

Cloud storage is a great way for companies to fulfill more of their data-driven needs and excellent technology that allows the company to evolve and grow at a faster pace, accelerating growth and providing a flexible forum for developers to build useful apps for better devices to be developed over the internet. The integration of cloud computing and the internet of things creates a scalable, maintainable, end-to-end internet of things solution on the cloud network. By applying the infrastructure to the real universe, it generates sources of insight. Cloud computing and IoT are separate technology but are closely associated and are termed as ‘cloud-based IoT' as IoT has the ability to create intelligent goods and services, gather data that can affect business decisions and probably change the business model to boost success and expansion, and cloud infrastructure can be at the heart of all IoT has to deliver.
