A new polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) designed with eight –(CH2)3–NH–(CH2)2–NH2 groups (PNEN) at its apexes was used as nanocomposite uploading into 1,2-bis(triethoxysilyl)ethane (BTESE)-derived organosilica to prepare mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) for gas separation. The mixtures of BTESE-PNEN were uniform with particle size of around 31 nm, which is larger than that of pure BTESE sols. The characterization of thermogravimetric (TG) and gas permeance indicates good thermal stability. A similar amine-contained material of 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) was doped into BTESE to prepare hybrid membranes through a copolymerized strategy as comparison. The pore size of the BTESE-PNEN membrane evaluated through a modified gas-translation model was larger than that of the BTESE-APTES hybrid membrane at the same concentration of additions, which resulted in different separation performance. The low values of Ep(CO2)-Ep(N2) and Ep(N2) for the BTESE-PNEN membrane at a low concentration of PNEN were close to those of copolymerized BTESE-APTES-related hybrid membranes, which illustrates a potential CO2 separation performance by using a mixed matrix membrane strategy with multiple amine POSS as particles.

AbstractThe concurrence of different languages is one of the tenets of Rosenzweig Sprachdenken and of his translation activity which finds its main theoretical explication in the afterword to his ‘Zweiundneunzig Hymnen und Gedichte des Yehuda Halevi’ (Konstanz, Wöhrle, 1924). In the afterword to the translation of ha-Levi’s lyrical corpus, Rosenzweig outlines a translation model which, trying to convey all the morphological, syntactic and lexical traits of the source language into the target language, gives way to a real linguistic fusion which defies the limits and boundaries of expression and opens onto a redemptive perspective. On the basis of this concluding note and of some passages from ‘The Star of Redemption’, the article tries to analyse Rosenzweig’s idea of language and of its nexus with the idea of redemption with reference to Walter Benjamin’s famous essay ‘The Task of the Translator’ and, as a point of convergence, with Paul Celan’s conception of poetic language.

Resumen: Este artículo presenta el marco teórico de un proyecto que se está teniendo lugar actualmente y que persigue la mejora de la calidad de los documentos informativos traducidos en el ámbito de la Salud Mental, dirigido al público hispano hablante que vive en Estado Unidos. El principal objetivo de este estudio es la creación de un modelo de traducción basado en la adaptación sociocultural y lingüística que mejora la legibilidad del texto y, en consecuencia, la eficacia de la transmisión de información. Los rasgos culturales y  las habilidades lingüísticos de la audiencia (en este caso, la comunidad latina de EE.UU.) deberían ser, en mi opinión, una parte fundamental en métodos y patrones de traducción, ya que ambos juegan un papel importante en el modo en el que el lector se acerca al texto y posteriormente lo entiende. Para introducir estos aspectos en un modelo d traducción, intentaremos combinar la teoría del marco  semántico de Filmore (1976) con diferentes estrategias orientadas a incrementar la legibilidad del texto. La razón de esta selección y del enfoque del proyecto se detallarán a lo largo de este artículo.Abstract: This paper presents the theoretical basis of an on-going translation project that seeks to improve the quality of translated information documents related to Mental Health which are addressed to the Hispanic population living in theUSA. The main objective is achieving a translation model based on sociocultural and literacy appropriateness which boasts documents intelligibility and, in consequence, the effectiveness of information transmission. The cultural features and literacy skills of the target audience (in this case, the U.S. Latino community) should be, in my opinion, a fundamental part of translation methods and patterns, since they both play an important role in the way a reader approaches and subsequently understands a text. In order to implement these aspects in our translation model, we intend to combine Fillmore’s Frame Semantics theory (1976) with different strategies oriented to improve texts intelligibility. The rationale for all these choices and the project’s perspectives are detailed throughout the following pages.

AbstractAnti-TNF therapy resistance is a major clinical challenge in Crohn’s Disease (CD), partly due to insufficient understanding of disease-site, protein-level mechanisms of CD and anti-TNF treatment resistance. Although some proteomics data from CD mouse models exists, data type and phenotype discrepancies contribute to confounding attempts to translate between preclinical animal models of disease and human clinical cohorts. To meet this important challenge, we develop and demonstrate here an approach called Translatable Components Regression (TransComp-R) to overcome inter-species and trans-omic discrepancies between CD mouse models and human subjects. TransComp-R combines CD mouse model proteomic data with patient pre-treatment transcriptomic data to identify molecular features discernable in the mouse data predictive of patient response to anti-TNF therapy. Interrogating the TransComp-R models predominantly revealed upregulated integrin pathway signaling via collagen-binding integrin ITGA1 in anti-TNF resistant colonic CD (cCD) patients. Toward validation, we performed single-cell RNA sequencing on biopsies from a cCD patient and analyzed publicly available immune cell proteomics data to characterize the immune and intestinal cell types contributing to anti-TNF resistance. We found that ITGA1 is indeed expressed in colonic T-cell populations and that interactions between collagen-binding integrins on T-cells and colonic cell types expressing secreted collagens are associated with anti-TNF therapy resistance. Biologically, TransComp-R linked previously disparate observations about collagen and ITGA1 signaling to a potential therapeutic avenue for overcoming anti-TNF therapy resistance in cCD. Methodologically, TransComp-R provides a flexible, generalizable framework for addressing inter-species, inter-omic, and inter-phenotypic discrepancies between animal models and patients to deliver translationally relevant biological insights.One Sentence SummaryBrubaker et al. implicate dysregulated collagen-binding integrin signaling in resistance to anti-TNF therapy in Crohn’s Disease by developing a mouse-proteomic to human-transcriptomic translation model and confirm the associated inter-cellular signaling network using single-cell RNA sequencing.
