Abstract The research purpose of the authors is reducing the energy consumption of the main worldwide consumer - the electric motors- by useful utilization of the input energy through the Regenerative Electric Drive System having also the power quality features. The prototype of the electric elevator consists mainly of two trolley: one serve for the active load, and the other as counterweight, gearbox, power converter, induction machine and chain transmission. The elevator is driven by using 4kW three-phase induction machine through AC-AC power converter and has the capacity of 450 kg. The numerical simulation results and the experimental platform are shown.

In order to cope with the great pressure caused by the gradually exhaustion of fossil energy and environmental protection and climate warming, the development and application of the renewable energy has become an important foundation and development direction in the field of energy. However, due to the impact of energy and resource endowment, China’s load center and renewable energy base into the characteristics of long-range reverse distribution, the use of long-distance large-capacity transmission potential is necessary. With the “strong DC system and weak AC system” problem of the company power grid is increasingly prominent, the higher demand of dynamic reactive power support is put forward in the UHV DC power transmission project. Then, the large-capacity dynamic reactive power of new generation synchronous condenser is large-scale built up in the UHV DC/AC power system. Due to the high requirement of response speed and capacity in the UHV DC power transmission, the structure, dynamic characteristics, excitation control and relay protection and other aspects of the large synchronous condenser are different from generators and traditional synchronous condenser. Based on this, the dynamic reactive power demand of UHV DC power system is analyzed in this paper. Then, the main situation of large synchronous condenser is considered. In addition, the key points of the excitation control system and protection system are also discussed in this paper. There are important theoretical and practical significance for the safe and reliable operation of the UHV DC/AC power system.

In order to achieve DC voltage matching, on-board charging, and DC/AC power inversion, three independent power converters are often needed in traditional Distributed Power Converter (DPC) systems of electric vehicles (EVs): bidirectional DC/DC (Bi-DC/DC), AC/DC, and DC/AC. The requirement of electronic devices such as power switches, inductors, and capacitors make the converter costly and complicated in structure. In this paper, a power converter with multi-operating mode (PCMM) is presented. The proposed PCMM can work in Bi-DC/DC, AC/DC, and DC/AC modes. The state-space averaging model of PCMM considering resistance of Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) and the inductor is presented. Based on this model, the transfer function of the system is derived and the controller is designed. The simulation and experimental results show that PCMM can meet the design target and verify the feasibility of the model. The measurement results show that the weight of PCMM proposed in this paper is reduced by 51.2% compared with the traditional structure.

The novel modified Elman neural network (NN) controlled permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) system, which is directly driven by a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) based on wind turbine emulator, is proposed to control output of rectifier (AC/DC power converter) and inverter (DC/AC power converter) in this study. First, a closed loop PMSM drive control based on wind turbine emulator is designed to generate power for the PMSG system according to different wind speeds. Then, the rotor speed of the PMSG, the voltage, and current of the power converter are detected simultaneously to yield better power output of the converter. Because the PMSG system is the nonlinear and time-varying system, two sets online trained modified Elman NN controllers are developed for the tracking controllers of DC bus power and AC power to improve output performance of rectifier and inverter. Finally, experimental results are verified to show the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.
