A new 1.575 GHz active balun with a classic double-balanced Gilbert mixer for global navigation satellite systems is proposed herein. A simple, low-noise amplifier architecture is used with a center-tapped inductor to generate a differential signal equal in amplitude and shifted in phase by 180°. The main advantage of the proposed circuit is that the phase shift between the outputs is always equal to 180°, with an accuracy of ±5°, and the gain difference between the balun outputs does not change by more than 1.5 dB. This phase shift and gain difference between the outputs are also preserved for all process corners, as well as temperature and voltage supply variations. In the balun design, a band calibration system based on a switchable capacitor bank is proposed. The balun and mixer were designed with a 110 nm CMOS process, consuming only a 2.24 mA current from a 1.5 V supply. The measured noise figure and conversion gain of the balun and mixer were, respectively, NF = 7.7 dB and GC = 25.8 dB in the band of interest.

A novel u-shaped single element antenna having two feed ports is compared with two equal length monopoles separated by a distance equivalent to the width. A discussion of relative performance metrics is provided for MIMO applications, and measured data is given for comparison. Good impedance match and isolation of greater than  dB are observed over the operating bandwidth from 2.3 to 2.39 GHz. The antenna patterns are highly uncorrelated, as illustrated by computation of the antenna pattern correlation coefficient for the two comparison monopoles.

The problem of trajectory tracking for a class of nonlinear systems in the presence of un-modeled dynamics, parameter variations and even the actuator faults is investigated in this paper. A novel fault-tolerant control scheme is proposed by combining the nominal model-based controller and time-delay controller, which are adopted to achieve the real-time dynamic compensation and guarantee the robust stability of the controlled systems, respectively. Moreover, high-quality differential signals are unavailable in the presence of disturbances and measurement noise, which limit the performance of closed-loop systems in practice. Therefore, an extended state observer (ESO) is introduced to obtain high-quality differential signal estimations based on position measurements only. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the proposed novel control scheme is verified by testing in the spacecraft attitude tracking system.

The capabilities of electrically small spherical helical antennas for wireless power transmission at small and moderate distances are analyzed. Influence of design on antenna radiation resistance, efficiency, and mode ratio is examined. These are the factors that, according to the theoretical considerations depicted herein, govern the maximum transfer performances. Various designs and configurations are considered for the purpose, with accent on small-size receivers suitable for implementation in powering common-sized gadgets. It is shown that spherical helix design is easily manipulated to achieve a reduced antenna size. Good radiation characteristics and impedance match are maintained by multiple-arm folded antenna design and by adjusting the separation between the arms.
