To understand different control loops that have been proposed to improve the quality of current into grid from the perspective of output impedance, control-loop-based output impedance enhancement of grid-tied inverters for harmonic suppression is proposed in this paper. The principle and generalized control loop deduction are presented for reshaping the output impedance. Taking a traditional LCL (Inductor-Capacitor-Inductor)-type inverter with dual-loop control as an example, different kinds of control loop topologies are derived step by step and further optimized for the implementation of the proposed principle. Consequently, the improved control consists of a filtering-capacitor voltage loop, and a grid current loop is found which can remove the existing inner capacitor current loop and therefore simplify the control. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control method is compared with the existing method and both are verified by simulations and experiments.

Two designs of frequency triplers, which use planar transitions as baluns and an antiparallel diode pair to achieve wide bandwidth, are presented. The ultrawideband transitions are utilized for input and output impedance matching of the frequency triplers. The design process and operation principles are described in this paper. The implemented frequency triplers exhibit flat response over wide frequency range of 3 to 9 GHz. The proposed Type A frequency tripler shows conversion loss of ~18 dB with above 30 dB even harmonics suppression. With Type B frequency tripler, conversion loss of ~17 dB and above 25 dB even harmonic suppression are achieved.

For resolving the problem that power filter cannot work normally because TCR (thyristor controlled reactor) generates extra third harmonic current under asymmetrical voltage, the paper proposes the estimation method of current capacity that TCR generates extra third harmonic current under asymmetrical voltage. Considering extra third harmonic current under asymmetrical voltage, Optimum method based on genetic algorithm is used to design the parameters of power filter. With reactive power compensation and harmonic suppression project of a steel mill as example, the proposed method is simulated by Matlab. Simulation results show optimized power filter can eliminate extra third harmonic current effects under asymmetrical voltage, meet the requirement of reactive power compensation, reduce harmonics current that load injects into system, and guarantee the power filter safe operation under asymmetrical voltage.
