: Cr12MoV hardened steel is widely used in the manufacturing of stamping die because of its high strength, high hardness, and good wear resistance. As a kind of mainstream cutting technology, high-speed machining has been applied in the machining of Cr12MoV hardened steel. Based on the review of a large number of literature, the development of high-speed machining of Cr12MoV hardened steel was summarized, including the research status of the saw-tooth chip, cutting force, cutting temperature, tool wear, machined surface quality, and parameters optimization. The problems that exist in the current research were discussed and the directions of future research were pointed out. It can promote the development of high-speed machining of Cr12MoV hardened steel.

The appropriate iteration process model is the basis for managing and optimizing the product development process. In this article, we attempt to introduce the concept of process effectiveness and process value. The relationship between rework probability and process effectiveness is discussed. The evolution function of process effectiveness is proposed to drive the overlapped iteration process of multi-coupled activities. The evolution process with input information update is studied, and a simulation model is presented to obtain the accurate iteration process of development. It is useful to analyze the risks during development, and has good flexibility and versatility. The calculation method of process value for overlapped iteration process is given, and an optimization model for product development process is provided. The model is used to improve the development process of the stamping die of a car roof. With the model, we can get a suitable overlapping rate of multi-coupled activities to improve development performance.

Abstract. As an innovative process of manufacturing ultra high strength steel (UHSS), hot stamping or press hardening is a multi-physical coupling process with complex changes in thermal, mechanical and phase transformation. In this work, in order to study heat transfer from workpiece to upper & lower die and cooling water, a new approach, named Bulk Flow, is adopted to model the cooling ducts and to simulate heat transfer in hot stamping die. Not only can tool design, cooling duct layout and process parameters be studied and optimized to increase the cooling rate and to homogenize temperature distribution in workpiece, but also, the precision of hot stamping simulation be improved. The experimental results of boron steel components formed by the designed die show that the martensite is homogenous. It indicates the feasibility of the bulk flow method.

The dry progressive stamping was strongly required to make mass production of clothing parts and beverage cans. The duplex coating was one of the most reliable means to protect the dies and punches from wear and friction and to prolong their life time. In this coating, the die and punch was first surface-treated to have sufficient hardness in compatible to the hard ceramic coatings. In the present study, the low temperature plasma nitriding at 673 K was employed to harden the six kinds of punches and dies for progressive stamping of copper alloyed fucks. The micro-structure and nitrogen mapping were investigated by SEM with EDS to demonstrate that the hardening took place by nitrogen super saturation into SKD11 matrix without nitride precipitations. These nitrogen super-saturated punches and dies were fix into the progressive die set for dry stamping. No significant wear of tools as well as reduction of stamping loads even after a million shots proved that the low temperature plasma nitriding should be suitable to make hardening of dry stamping die substrates even without use of hard ceramic coatings.
